Chapter 12: Diana’s Shock (1)
Baron Latus had survived the battle, as Sir Simone had said, but he did not wake up easily.
It would have been no easy task for the mysterious Yoo-seong to enter the inner castle, even if he had won the battle, but Yoo-seong had Rene.
Baron Latus and Rene share an uncle-niece relationship.
She is a neighboring countess, whose face is known to all of Baron Latus’ entourage, including Sir Simone.
With Rene as a guarantor of identity, Yoo-seong could be hailed as a hero for saving their lord and winning the battle, rather than an unknown stranger but Rene pouted his lips.
“Are you a wandering knight, a descendant of Camelot?”
“Let’s call it that for now.”
Rene was eager to introduce the Yoo-seong as the rightful king of Camelot, the protector of mankind, sent by the Goddess of the Lake, the heir to the light from the land of the gods, the successor to Arthur Pendragon, but the Yoo-seong would not allow it.
There were many reasons for this, but here are a few of them
Unlike Robin and Edgar, none of Baron Latus’ men know about Rene’s revelation.
Even Robin, who has known Rene for many years and is her closest confidant, does not believe the story of Rene’s revelation.
Rene has received a revelation from the Lady of the Lake, and as a result, she has met a shooting star, the Heir of Light.
Yoo-seong is the savior of mankind, sent by the Goddess of the Lake.
Imagine the reaction if she told this story to Baron Latus’ men.
It would be different from Robin and Edgar, they would most likely not believe it, or even if they did believe it to some extent, they would want to verify it.
It was all unnecessary to tell them everything so Yoo-seong looked at the situation with rationality.
The most important thing right now was to defend the city and castle from the kobold horde that would be led by the kobold prince.
It was better to disguise his identity as a wandering knight, a descendant of Camelot, than to bring up the Heir to the Light, which could cause unnecessary confusion.
“Even if they believe that I am the successor of light, they wouldn’t just hand over command of the military, so it would be right to just do as I am doing now.”
Yoo-seong’s logical explanation was immediately understood and accepted by Rene, but she couldn’t help but feel disappointed.
“I see. You want to be treated like a saint who received a revelation and went on a holy journey alone, instead of a runaway girl who ran away from home at an early age?”
“That’s not what I am!”
Robin’s sharp prodding startled Rene into denial, but her tone, expression, and bright red face already gave the answer away.
“Gee, I’m not really.”
Rene wiggled her fingers and tried a second timid denial, but neither Yoo-seong nor Robin nor Edgar could do anything but laugh.
Based on Rene’s behavior so far, it probably wasn’t really for that reason.
Rather, it’s more likely that she wants Yoo-seong to be recognized as the heir to the light.
But Rene’s pouting lips in timid disagreement are adorable, so Yoo-seong, Robin, and Edgar agree to just tease her.
Sir Simone entered the castle first, carrying the wounded Baron Latus, and Yoo-seong followed Sir Mont, who looked a little younger than Simone.
The refugees also hurried to the castle, but they were stopped by the soldiers and were not allowed to enter immediately.
“I’ve never seen such a large group of refugees before.”
Lord Mont said that evacuees had been knocking on the gates since last night, but they were fewer than a dozen strong.
They were probably those who had escaped the wrath by being outside the town, like the merchants who fled from the town of Flamme.
‘Or to put it another way, almost everyone in the village was killed…….’
It was a bitter pill to swallow, but Yoo-seong didn’t dare say it out loud, instead continuing to listen to Lord Mont’s story.
“When Baron Latus heard the tales of the refugees, he hastily organized recruitment and battle preparations. Then the kobolds appeared, and when he saw their numbers, he ordered a march.”
The rest is what Yoo-seong saw.
“That can’t have been all of them, there’s probably a much larger horde coming.”
Mont’s face darkened at Robin’s words but fear could not hide the truth so Robin continued.
“The kobolds are gathering under someone called the Prince of Kobolds. It looks like all the guys from the Lotho Forest are gathering, so there must be at least a few hundred of them.”
“A prince of kobolds, do you mean to say that kobolds have founded a country?”
Lord Mont asked in surprise, and Robin narrowed her eyes.
“We don’t know about that, but it is true that……the kobolds mentioned the existence of the Prince of Kobolds.”
Sir Mont’s face darkened sharply.
For if the kobolds had indeed established a state, then hundreds-nay, perhaps thousands-of kobolds, not just a few dozen, would flock to Lothian.
“How are our defenses holding up? We’ll need to rally all of Baron Latus’ forces, as well as those of our neighboring estates……and perhaps even the kingdom for help.”
Sir Mont, sobered by Rene’s words, drew in a sharp breath and spoke quickly.
“I will pass this on to Sir Simone, but for now, you must rest.”
He turned and walked, then broke into a run.
His panting was unnerving, but at least he seemed to be taking the situation seriously.
“C-c-come with me, please.”
The group followed the guidance of a middle-aged woman who, although her face turned pale after hearing a series of conversations, still did not forget her duties – she seemed to be the chief maid of the castle.
* * *
Naturally, Yoo-seong was led to a different place than Rene.
Of course, that didn’t mean he was treated harshly.
It would have been even stranger to keep a stranger knight, a man and a woman, in the same room with a neighboring lord whose face they already knew and whose merits they had seen.
After being shown to a decent guest room, Yoo-seong ate a simple meal served by the maids and bathed in warm water.
Her original plan was to face Lord Simone again immediately after a decent meal, but since he hadn’t called him, it seemed that the story was better left to Rene, Robin, and Edgar.
So instead of getting impatient, Yoo-seong decided to savor the time of rest he had finally gotten.
If the kobolds were coming, there would be no time for rest.
Besides, there was one thing he had been dying to do since earlier.
“Status window!”
Changed into clean clothes, Yoo-seong shouted as he sat up in bed, and windows of light appeared before him.

What I have is a total of 15pts, including the achievement pt.
‘It’s up to me to fill the army as much as possible.’
I spend 2 points on the serf troop and 4 points on the archer troop, filling them all to the maximum number.
‘That’s 45 men, not counting the heroes.’
Infantry 30, archers 15.
That leaves 9 points.
Here’s where it gets tricky.
‘The most I can call up at once is three troops.’
Since I already had two armies in play, I could only summon one more.
And what kind of troop should I make?
I need to expand our ranks a bit more. I need to recruit new serf units.
Since this is a fortified castle, and I already have a lot of conscripts for the front line, add a new archer unit, which is a more advanced class.
Add a new class, Light Cavalry.
Option 1 was quickly dismissed.
That left me with two options: 2 or 3.
The rational side of my brain decided on option 2.
How many conscripts can shoot a bow?
Most of them would be frontline infantry fighting with spears, so it made sense to have at least one archer with ranged attacks.
Besides, who needs light cavalry in a defensive situation?
But even so, I couldn’t put 3 down easily for two reasons.
One was the fact that unlike normal cavalry, Yoo-seong’s cavalry can be summoned to his side at any time and from anywhere.
This meant that during the final battle, Yoo-seong could scramble down the city walls alone, summon his cavalry, and surprise the enemy from behind.
‘Of course, that would most likely result in being surrounded and killed.’
Still, the increase in tactical options was significant.
And another.
‘There will be a hero.’
On the way home, I peeked at the status window to see if there was anything I could learn.
‘A hero appears only once per unit.’
If I create a new serf troop or archer troop and attach a captain or champion to it, I won’t get a hero like Kate or Vanadain.
I’ll just get a generic captain and champion.
‘But if I add a light cavalry, I get a cavalry hero.’
It’s the first light cavalry, so I get a cavalry hero.
Of course, the previous two times I’d gotten lucky, and there was no guarantee that I’d get a Kate or Vanadain this time, but the flip side of that was that I might get a powerful hero.
‘A hero will be a hero.’
The tactical value of Kate and Vanadain was immense.
A single Vanadain, let alone Kate as a support hero, would be more powerful than an entire army of archers-nay, 30 of them.
‘Based on the pattern so far, light cavalry is going to cost me 1 point to build, so I’m going to build it, add a captain, add one or two guys, and I’ll be out of points.’
So it would be about five guys.
Eleven regular archer troops vs three light cavalry and a hero of unknown rank.
‘Let’s go with the latter.’
It’s the latter.
I must go to the latter.
Having made up his mind, Yoo-seong looked at Rene’s entry before taking the point.

‘I see Rene can be trained separately like a troop leader.’
The options are magic enhancement, barehanded fighting, riding a war horse, and new spells.
‘What the hell is barehanded fighting for?’
A magical assassin—no, are they suggesting I train her as a magical martial artist instead?
It was an interesting build, but in a way, it was Rene’s life on the line.
Yoo-seong crossed off the exciting options and considered the practical ones.
‘Enchantment or new spells.’
If Rene could summon a steed at all times, like Kate’s steed, it would be a tactical boon, acting as a de facto “mobile artillery piece,” but the current situation called for a defensive battle.
Besides, I had the option of riding with Kate, so I didn’t need to use the steed right away.
‘Let’s go to the enchantment.’
Since ancient times, magicians have been magical.
Since it was a new magic, it seemed like a random draw where you never know what will come out, so in this case, it was much better to choose a solid magic enhancement.
‘I’ll have to ask Rene later how strong her magic is.’
Anyway, Yoo-seong, who had chosen to strengthen Rene’s magic power, quickly moved his hands again and added light cavalry to his legion.

‘Diana.’
A newly added Light Cavalry Hero.
I wonder what kind of hero she is.
Judging by her name, I’m guessing she’s a girl.
‘We’ll see.’
Yoo-seong was impatient so he spoke up.
“Diana, rally.”
A flash of golden light flashed before Yoo-seong’s eyes.
