I Stayed Loyal When My Teacher Was Betrayed

chapter 12

12 – Proof 1

“Well, this should be enough, right?”

“… I have a question… are you really okay with me writing this?”

Ovelin spoke enthusiastically.

In response, Rosemary spoke with a slightly uncomfortable voice.

The room in front of them was almost the size of a classroom, filled with various magical tools for experiments.

All kinds of books were also fully equipped.

Literally, just the value of the magical items alone was worth several hundred gold each.

Offering this place willingly, Ovelin spoke with a voice filled with joy.

“Yes! Of course, originally it was my writing place, but now I don’t have time to focus on research. Please use it, teacher.”

“Thank you. I will find a way to repay this debt.”

“You have already erased a lot of it. From my perspective, there is still much more to do. Well then, I should go back to work. I’ll see you later~”

With those words, Ovelin vanished from the laboratory like the wind.

As she disappeared,

Edward, who had been maintaining silence until now, finally found his voice.

“I have been watching all along… You are quite an extraordinary person in many ways.”

“That’s right, I knew you were not ordinary since before… But still, I didn’t expect this level of skill from you.”

Rosie Marie lightly chuckled as she fiddled with the magical tools.

While speaking like that, she seemed to really like this place.

At that moment.

“Um… Can I leave now?”

“!….”

“Oh…”

A woman, just like Edward, spoke for the first time.

Bernie.

The two of them finally turned their gazes towards her, which they had forgotten for a long time.

“I’m sorry, I accidentally dragged you into this.”

“Oh… No, it’s fine. I needed to kill time until I got assigned anyway. So, in that case…”

Bernie cautiously tried to finish her words and leave.

At that moment.

“Wait a minute.”

“Yes?”

Suddenly, Rosie Marie called out to Bernie.

With slow steps, Rosie Marie approached.

At the end of her gaze, there was Bernie’s face, showing signs of caution.

“Hey, would you like to try being my student?”

“…Excuse me?”

*

She was someone who could divide right from wrong very well. Even if it was someone she liked, she would not hesitate to tell them if they were in the wrong. On the other hand, even if she disliked someone, if they had the right qualifications she would extend her hand willingly.

According to those standards, Rosemary spoke to the woman who had been bothersome to her since earlier. She was labelled as a beginner adventurer, and was a cheeky individual who always followed Edward around. But as they spent more time together, Rosemary began to realize something she could not have known otherwise: that this woman was not an average person. She had a significant amount of power hidden beneath her surface, something that Rosemary couldn’t fully comprehend even in her current state. It was akin to a deep, dark abyss – something that made it hard to measure her strength, and what it ultimately meant was that this woman, named Bernice, was almost equally powerful as Rosemary. Even with her power significantly weakened due to the breaking of their contract, it was still an incredible amount.

The fact that a person with such talent was rolling around with the label of a mere novice adventurer was no different to Rosemary than finding a diamond ore on the street.

Although his behavior was shameless,

It would be the duty of someone studying magic to pick it up and refine it, wouldn’t it?

“And coincidentally, I needed an assistant to assist in my research…”

With that conclusion, Rosemary reached out her hand to the woman in front of her.

And about that.

The silver-haired woman seemed to consider for a moment

But she quickly made a surprising decision.

“Yes, I will do it.”

*

Undertaking any task was never easy.

Especially, in a situation where distractors were bustling around, executing the preparations thoroughly could be quite exhausting.

In that regard, at this moment, Obelin was seething with anger while looking at the noisy trash that always roamed around.

“This is unacceptable.”

“A person who just became an adventurer yesterday claiming to be a Grand Master, it’s absolutely unacceptable.”

“No matter how brilliant their past accomplishments were, they hid for a whole 10 years. How can we trust such a person with their abilities?”

“Although he may have a friendship with the Guild Master, carrying out tasks in that way would be difficult!”

“Furthermore, even if he is a skilled mercenary, we cannot blindly trust someone who is associated with demons.”

Those individuals were barking loudly as if they had lost their minds.

Regarding this, Obelin spoke in a cold voice.

“So, are all of you determined to let a capable talent rot away in the Iron rank during these times?”

“We don’t know whether he is capable or not.”

“We are merely saying that we need proof. A solid evidence that everyone can acknowledge.”

“Are you kidding… Haven’t you seen Gloce and his colleagues being dragged away by them? What more proof do you need?”

“How can you compare a fight between humans with that? Moreover, Gloce himself was drunk at the time. Who can guarantee that he used proper judgment and not some deceptive trick?”

“… Sigh…”

Those individuals who seemed to be hanging on every word.

Regarding this, Obelin let out a deep sigh and spoke to them.

“So, what if we do it this way?”

*

Deep within my body, contained within, is magic power.

It slowly began to flow through the magic circuit within me.

A force spreading throughout my entire being.

Just like water flowing into an empty stream,

It quickly spread and concentrated at the tips of my fingers.

The most fundamental act of using magic.

Using the gathered magic power as ingredients,

I slowly moved my fingers, beginning to construct the spell.

Conveying meaning through a single line.

Like drawing a picture, the magic circle began to take shape.

At that moment,

The voice of my master began to resonate in my ear.

“Slow down, maintain a consistent output from your fingertips.”

With those words, my master lightly held my hand and guided my movements.

A warm and gentle sensation.

At the same time, I could feel my master’s chest touching my back.

For a brief moment, my focus wavered, but I quickly regained my concentration.

My master’s consideration even in familiar actions, pointing out inadequacy.

Feeling the obligation to succeed even for the sake of that consideration.

Lines coming together to form a single shape.

The mathematical equation within those lines was simple,

But the result it produced was far from simple.

Even this spell I was using right now was the same.

A strand containing the coordinates for casting magic.

A strand representing the target of the magic’s influence.

And, a final strand, holding the gathered target as one.

The three strands started moving in a circular motion, slowly mobilizing.

Just like the meshing of gears,

Several ingredients combining to produce a single outcome.

That was the conclusion reached.

It was…

-Snap!!!!

-Squeeeeeeeak!!!!

The sound of a sharp scream of a mouse facing death.

Sharp nails were stuck in various parts of the creature’s body.

Or rather, nails that came out from inside after piercing through the creature’s body.

A magic called Metal Clover which was used to bring down the Glost creature before.

As I finished demonstrating it, I heard my master’s applause in my ear.

“Indeed…I clearly understand now that I’ve watched it closely. I never thought there would be an attack magic in this way.”

“You flatter me, Master.”

“Having iron in the blood…How did you even come up with such an idea? I suppose if you lick blood, it might have that kind of taste…”

“Well, I just happened to find out. I don’t really remember the details.”

Apart from the development of magic, this world was significantly behind in terms of modern science and lifestyle.

Explaining magic and magical power to modern people would inevitably result in being treated as insane due to the stark differences in backgrounds.

“Well, I hope to show something else next time. Like using lightning to levitate an object?”

“Ah…Yes, that’s right…”

Thus, I began preparing for magic again according to my master’s next spell.

If it was in the past, I would not even have been able to start preparing, but in a situation where magic power was overflowing, it was a different story.

As I started gathering magical power on my fingertips once again…

“Teacher~!”

“Yes?”

I had to stop the magic for a moment due to the sudden voice.

My master seemed to have a terribly disappointed expression, somehow.
