chapter 13
13 – Proof 2
“Proof?”
“Yes, that’s the only thing I could tell you. To be precise, they want you to perform a Grand Master-level request solo.”
“Hmm…It’s been a decently long period of blank time. I guess there’s no choice but to do what they say.”
Ovelin’s bitter words and the teacher’s positive response can be felt contrasting each other.
Ovelin was annoyed, saying that they were being annoying, but that was also a logical thing
As the saying goes, even Gangsan region changes over 10 years. It was a situation where it was necessary to prove whether or not the teacher’s abilities had rusted during that time.
“Understood. Then do as you said. Prepare if there is a suitable request.”
“Yes! I understand, teacher.”
“The personnel will be my workhorse here and the disciple I brought this time. Three people should be enough. Let’s proceed like that.”
“Uh … and there’s one thing about that …”
“Yes?”
Ovelin spoke with a puzzled expression.
At the words that came out of her mouth,
We couldn’t help but frown.
*
“Sheung, sheung, sheung~”
A woman sang a happy tune while strolling down the street.
Waving her flowing black hair,
She showed off a bright smile with a basket full of bread in her hand.
Light footsteps as if on an outing.
Then …
“Oh!”
“Yeah?”
The girl collided with the woman who seemed joyfully walking ahead.
Right after, her face turned blue.
“Oh no..”
“My… my ice cream…”
Chocolate ice cream wiped on her skirt.
Although the girl seemed like she would cry soon…
The woman still smiled and lightly bowed her waist while looking at her.
“Oh no… what to do… My sister’s skirt ate little madam’s ice cream. Go buy two two-level ones with this.”
With those words, the kind woman handed a coin to the little girl.
The kindness in her actions made the girl’s face clear up from being sulky.
“Thank you pretty sister!”
“Ahaha, yes, be careful next time.”
The woman effortlessly removed her clothes immediately after parting ways with the girl.
Right after that, the ice cream that had been smeared on her clothes disappeared cleanly, as if in a lie.
Her skirt was immaculately white as if there had been nothing on it from the beginning.
Shortly after, she entered a small nearby house as if nothing had happened,
wearing a still contented expression on her face.
“I’m home!”
“Welcome back, Sig Rune.”
Two colleagues greeted her with pleasant smiles.
Brunhilde and Mist.
Sig Rune started to share the bread she brought with them, wearing a joyful smile.
The two of them accepted it and took a bite with cheerful faces.
A bread dyed in red.
While watching the two of them happily chewing it, Sig Rune’s heartwarming expression resembled that of a mother’s gentle smile.
At that moment…
“About the task?”
A serious female voice reached her ears.
Following it, Sig Rune’s gaze remained on the person sitting at the innermost position.
She was their leader, Frea, with beautiful blue hair that was intricately styled.
In response to her words, Sig Rune responded lightly with an unchanged smile.
“Of course, it’s perfect. Would you like me to share some with the leader too?”
“Not necessary. Just hand over the goods.”
“Hehe… Alright then.”
With those words, Sig Rune rummaged through the basket that still had plenty of bread.
Then, she withdrew her hand from the basket, revealing something larger than bread.
It still dripped with red liquid
and emitted a warm sensation.
As Sig Rune casually tossed it aside,
Frea didn’t show any change in her expression and simply flicked her fingers as if casting a spell.
It remained right there, directly fixed in front of Frea’s eyes.
Staring at it with wide open eyes, an expression filled with terror,
Frea spoke in a calm voice.
“It’s definitely him. Well done.”
A dry response devoid of any trace of emotion.
To this, Sigrun smiled unchanged and took a bite of the bread from the basket, saying,
“Well… you’re always insufferable. With an attitude like that, will you ever find a wife…”
“Don’t talk nonsense. We have the next mission right away.”
“Huh? Already?”
“I swear… I told you to avoid consecutive missions.”
Grumbling slightly at Frea’s words, the three gathered in one place.
While enjoying a simple meal together, Frea presented a small note to them.
“This one is quite big. It could be dangerous depending on the circumstances, so prepare thoroughly.”
“A big one?”
“It’s been a while. The leader rarely says something like that.”
As Frea spoke, the two individuals’ eyes shimmered slightly.
Observing their comrades’ reactions.
Sigrun, with her unchanging smile, said happily,
“Well… maybe we can have some fun for a change?”
*
The adventures of the Valhalla Adventurers’ Guild were mostly related to monster extermination.
Regular raids by monsters in the borderlands.
To prevent it in advance, they would attack the monsters’ lairs or locate and eliminate their leaders.
And among these requests, the one we will undertake this time…
Suitably matching its name as a Grand Master-level quest, it lacked mercy in many ways.
“The Arch Lich hunt…”
“I don’t know who decided it, but it’s quite grandiose.”
The Arch Lich.
One of the worst undead known to be born when a grand sorcerer dies.
Naturally, living up to its name, it possesses enormous magical power, and
The demons under his command were known to be extremely powerful. “I heard that even the Valkyrie Guild had difficulty dealing with them, so they’ve practically left them alone for the past few years. Can we really catch these guys?” Bernie expressed doubt. While I was trying to choose my words carefully, I thought it was possible for now. While Ark Rich was a powerful existence, the Rosemary Master was here. She was the strongest wizard who had even fought against the demon king. Additionally, I had become stronger than before, so the request itself was not impossible. However, the process could be quite tedious, not just because of the monsters involved. “Anyway … do we really have to take these annoying guys with us?” “It’s a condition, so there’s nothing we can do about it. They said they would judge it themselves by looking at it through the eyes of those guys.” A group of adventurers who sit in the back. The group consists of four female warriors with the team name Valkyrie. They are masters and are incredibly sharp, and they were participating in this request as our collaborators. However, we knew, including me, that they were just in name collaborators, in fact, they were like scorekeepers following us to monitor our actions. They were probably one of those who oppose Obelin’s intentions. They will most likely give very low scores, even if they score, and… When I was getting more irritated about having to drag them along with us in such a difficult request, Bernie asked me carefully. “What should we do with them? If possible, we could just ditch them…” “… Hmmm…” They were probably very skilled because they were masters. Bernie’s words of casually ditching them were not normal, but there was a reason why we couldn’t just ditch them. “It’s dirty in many ways, but it’s better to just drag them along. If we fail, things will get very complicated, and even if we succeed, the guys who were monitoring us may not be able to come back, so they’ll try to pin it on us.” “… Hmm… I see. Anyway, the world of adventurers is incredibly complicated.” “That’s just the nature of the world. Anyway, for now, let’s just watch our backs. If we’re too harsh with them, you should consider using your magic a little when you go.” “Okay, got it.”
My words sparked a waggy, tail-like feeling in Bernard as though I were talking to a puppy. I admired his cute, innocent look for a moment. “Then let’s get going. We’ll follow Bernard’s guidance and head out in the front.” “Ah… Yes, master.” Bernard said as he picked up the map and moved forward.
Soon after, the teacher, who had been standing by my side, calmly spoke up. “Then we should go too. We need to walk for at least two days to reach our destination.” “Yes, understood, master.”
As we walked side by side, I started to grip my fist carefully. It was my first task as an adventurer. Although I was worried about the hooded figures silently following us from behind, I was determined to make a successful start. ‘It would also be a good opportunity to experiment with a new spell…’
