Chapter 431: 431 A Nuclear Explosion, Soifon Prepared to Die, The Heart of a Demon and An Impossible Kiss.
After Urahara's death, the interference effects of Bankai had ended. However, all the dolls were in the middle of battles that they couldn't simply abandon. Of course, if Allen were in danger, it wouldn't matter if the world ended; they would abandon their posts, and the girls would all be by his side in the blink of an eye. But just as dolls had felt when Allen was in danger, they also felt when he was no longer in danger.
Allen had overcome the danger but left a void in the girls' hearts...
This experience made the dolls realize something; the closeness of the dolls and Allen, including even the most indifferent of them. It was deeper than even Allen or the girls themselves had realized.
Artoria was desperate...
Makima was stunned...
Esdeath froze in fear...
Rebecca stopped thinking...
While 2B nearly suffered a mental blow...
Albedo hadn't been around for long, but her terror was no less due to her obsessive Yandere personality, which was a bit crazy.
They all wanted to rush to Allen, all wanted to help him. Even though Esdeath and Makima were treated like maids, it didn't diminish their desire to go.
Allen was very strong, so worrying about him was unnecessary, and it was only when the reality of losing him caught up with them that they realized that at some point in all this madness, he had become an indispensable part of their lives regardless of their connection as master and doll.
...
Soifon's gaze was a mix of fear and determination. Without knowing who or what Makima was, Soifon had already decided to die to eliminate her.
So Soifon didn't hesitate to use her Bankai.
"Bankai: Jakuhō Raikōben! (Thunder Wasp Whip)"
Its appearance was that of protective armor covering Soifon's entire right arm, extending over her shoulder to form a shield that protected the right side of her face. On the arm's protective plate was an enormous weapon, almost twice Soifon's height, shaped like a missile.
Makima was a chaos of contradictions. Her original bloodthirsty, disdainful, lying, manipulative, and cruel mentality clashed with a new Makima that had been born without her desiring it and, more importantly, without her realizing it.
'When did I get used to hearing his voice?'
'When did I get used to seeing him?'
'When did I become comfortable being by his side?'
If someone had asked Makima if she hated Allen just a moment ago, she would have said she would enjoy watching him die in agony. But when she was truly in danger, something she had never noticed surfaced.
Makima decided to go, still with an unclear mind, still unsure of what she was going to do. Her body, her soul, and what should have been an amalgamation of twisted evil and sin... her heart dictated the same.
Soifon did not care about Makima's mental state and aimed the giant missile at her.
"Jakuhō Raikōben offends the pride of a member of the Special Forces, being too large to hide, too heavy to move quickly, and with an attack too flashy to be considered an assassination... however, against such a terrifying monster, none of that matters!"
Upon hearing Soifon's words, she turned. There, she saw a golden missile heading toward her at high speed. Makima tried to react but could do nothing and she was hit by Soifon's Bankai.
A massive explosion, similar to the effect of a thermobaric bomb, which, unlike nuclear bombs, absorbs the air, causing a suction effect at the center, and Makima was swallowed up by that explosion.
...
The fire cleared, and Soifon knelt. Her Bankai possessed terrifying power, but it was a double-edged sword due to the discomfort of using it and the wear it caused on its user. Even a captain like Soifon could only fire it twice.
"Damn it!"
Soifon punched the ground. Her job was to find the most vulnerable invaders or finish off those who were exhausted after each battle. These orders were given by the 46 Central.
Of course, the naive Soifon didn't know that they had died a long time ago and that it was Urahara who had used the highest authority of the 46 Central to manipulate her.
"In this state, I won't be able to do it... but that woman... no, that thing with the woman's skin shouldn't exist..."
"Captain!"
Omaeda came running, but this upset Soifon, as this guy had not helped her in the whole fight.
"Shut up, coward!"
"Captain! It's not like that, I wanted to help, but there wasn't enough time!"
Soifon punched Omaeda in the stomach out of frustration. If there was one thing Omaeda was good at, it was making excuses. The most frustrating thing was that it made sense because Soifon had appeared and threatened her, and then Makima had looked at her causing Soifon a paralyzing fear before walking away... without doing or saying anything more, turning her back on Soifon and allowing her to attack her by surprise, just as her lieutenant had said. It was all too quick and happened in a flash.
"Omaeda, you're useless. No matter what happens next, I'll recommend that someone replace you... Huh?!"
Soifon saw how the sky darkened like a total night, with no moon or light.
Omaeda screamed, "It's the end of the world!"
"Shut up!"
Soifon didn't panic and analyzed the situation. There were more than a few Zanpakutō capable of altering the sky, but these had limited range. However, this sudden night extended from the Seireitei to District 80, covering the entire world. But this was something the Shinigami could not know. Had they known, it might have unleashed chaos.
While Soifon looked at the sky with displeasure and Omaeda with fear, Makima's eyes watched her from the shadows.
The silence filled the place for a moment, but something was dragging across the ground and slowly approaching Soifon and her lieutenant.
Soifon looked in several directions but couldn't sense anything. She even thought it was her imagination.
"Omaeda, don't be useless this time, stay alert. Something tells me that woman is still alive..."
Omaeda, who had been silent and stiff, didn't move immediately.
"Omaeda?"
Just as she finished her words, a chain with a spear tip shot out from the ground. Soifon used her Zanpakutō to deflect the chain, but more shot out from the ground, all with enough power to pierce her Reiatsu-protected body. However, being an expert in surprise attacks, she wouldn't fall for such a tactic.
Omaeda silently also began to defend herself from the chains. Despite constantly insulting Omaeda, Soifon trusted that he wouldn't betray her, at least not in a situation where the Seireitei were at risk. In normal situations, Soifon would have no reason to doubt Omaeda... in normal situations.
She had entrusted her back to Omaeda, who, out of nowhere, while deflecting chains, lost his free will, turned, and tried to grab Soifon by the arms.
"Of course, I know this ability!"
As expected, Soifon jumped away from Omaeda. She, like the other captains, had been informed by Lieutenant Rangiku and Lieutenant Isane about a red-haired woman who uses chains as weapons.
"I know..." Makima appeared behind Soifon.
"...!" Soifon turned and slashed, but couldn't land a blow on anyone. What she saw next left her speechless; it was Makima in doll form.
"You didn't know this, did you?..."
Being so small, Soifon could not hit her, and seeing such an absurd situation left the captain in shock for a moment.
Three chains pierced Soifon's body—one in her shoulder, another in her abdomen, and the last in her leg.
"Uh!! Argh!!... What are you?! How are you still alive a-after receiving my... B-Bankai?!"
Makima didn't immediately respond. She didn't need to, nor did she want to. But as a demon, even if her body was torn apart, she could always regenerate with enough blood and flesh from others or simply over time.
"Are you still alive? I heard you guys were resilient, but that's compared to an ordinary human. It's amazing to see this result..."
"We're not done!" Soifon cut the chain with her hand and then backed off. "Shunko! (Instant Shout)"
The air near Soifon swirled with spirals in her arms, as rays made of spiritual energy enveloped her. It was a technique that elevated the power and, above all, the speed of a Shinigami to unimaginable levels.
Soifon vanished. Makima extended a web of chains in front of her. Soifon struck the chains, shattering them.
Makima raised her hand, forming a gun with her fingers.
"Bang"
Makima's invisible shot hit Soifon, creating a hole in her chest. However, it soon disappeared, as it was only a residual image. The real Soifon was behind Makima, kicking her with all her strength in the side.
Makima's ribs broke, but the demon didn't flinch or even blink, as if pain didn't exist for her. Her movements, however, were swift as she summoned a katana and slashed Soifon's shoulder.
"What?"
Makima rarely fights herself, giving the impression she's physically weak. But this isn't the case; she's a master swordswoman. Soifon, who had underestimated her, retreated, her arm rendered useless by Makima's blade.
Makima wiped the blood from her mouth, her golden eyes lighting up as everything around her seemed to stain with the presence of corpses. "I was thinking of letting you go, but you're in my way…"
Being capable of angering Makima isn't a label anyone would want.
Makima had once killed Quanxi, also known as the First Devil Hunter, with terrifying ease; so easily that Quanxi didn't even realize her head had been cut off.
Makima struck again with rapid slashes, surprising Soifon, even as she used Shunko.
'She's a monster… but only at close range…'
As an orthodox swordswoman, Makima is lethal within her blade's reach but lacks significant mobility. However, whenever Soifon tried to retreat, chains pursued her like laser beams, following her wherever she went.
"A ninja can kill any samurai if they manage to catch them off guard, but in a frontal fight…"
"Shut up! I'm not a ninja! I'm the Captain of the Second Division and one of the commanders of the Special Unit, Soifon!"
"I am Makima, former Demon of Control… currently a maid, and my master needs me... you're in my way."
Makima vanished. It was true that, with just her skills, the fight could stretch on. But Makima was now also a Doll, and her ability to teleport was undeniable.
"She's too fast!... No, this is something else!" Soifon realized it too late. In an instant, Soifon was pierced by Makima's katana. This time, she felt a strange, unpleasant sensation spreading through her body.
'WHAT IS THIS?!'
"It's rather strange, isn't it? Like a spider injecting venom that dissolves its victim's organs to consume them later… It's odd, but it seems that a demon from my world is dangerous in yours…"
"AAAAHHHHHHHHHGGGGGG!"
Soifon's scream echoed in the air. Makima, who was usually calm and obedient as of late, wasn't in the mood to show mercy. She didn't stop, even knowing that continuing would kill Soifon.
"Captain!!"
Omaeda's shout distracted Makima, as she had assumed the cowardly lieutenant had already fled.
"…!"
Makima turned to see a spiked metal ball hurtling toward her. It was Omaeda's Shikai. Makima possessed incredible immortality and regeneration but wasn't particularly strong in the defense department, so a strike like that could hurt her.
Makima let go of Soifon and stepped back.
"Damn it!"
Soifon, now free, still felt the sensation of death lingering within her. However, her determination was immense, and she raised her hand.
"Bankai: Jakuhō Raikōben!"
"You're crazy," Makima said, her eyes widening.
The same golden missile appeared on Soifon's arm. But the distance between her and Makima was too short, and firing it now would kill her as well.
Soifon's face showed doubt and reluctance, but she still pulled the "trigger" and launched her attack. Makima looked at Soifon as if she were an idiot. Makima could regenerate again, and even if killed, she wouldn't die as long as Allen remained alive.
The missile glowed in front of Makima. She closed her eyes, prepared to be destroyed, as a minor detail crossed her mind—demons feel pain. Makima simply pretends not to feel it, but she does. They all do.
Being burned hurts. Being killed does too. But as a demon, she had grown accustomed to "pain."
Makima awaited the sensation of her body being torn apart by the explosion so it could rebuild itself once more.
...
...
"…?!"
Makima felt a hand on her waist, pulling her into someone's chest. She opened her eyes to see the massive missile halted by a single palm.
Allen smiled, pushing his hand to the left. The missile exploded, and Makima watched in shock. It seemed as if an invisible wall redirected the entire explosion to the left, leaving her unharmed.
"Master?!"
Makima, resting against Allen's chest, looked up. She, who usually refused to call him "Master" and did so sarcastically when she did, now spoke the word naturally.
Allen didn't look at Makima; he simply held her. Instead, he looked at Soifon, who lay exhausted on the ground.
"Hey, little girl…"
Soifon felt her body freeze, unable to move. A cold, terrifying sensation overwhelmed her. This time, not even her willpower could keep her rational. Her face turned pale, her eyes shrank, and a cold sweat ran down her back. A woman trained to be an absolute, terrifying assassin couldn't move or speak.
Makima was surprised to see Allen angry. She wanted to speak but remained silent. Being in this position felt uncomfortable, and she had an impulse to pull away.
Not because of the situation itself but because of the consequences.
The warmth of his body transmitted to hers, along with his strength. A feeling of comfort flooded her, and to her, this was unacceptable.
'At this rate…'
It was a trap, a terrifying trap, one where the ruthless woman felt like she was losing something important, but in return, she was gaining something else. The only issue was that she couldn't refuse this outcome.
'Don't say it…'
'Don't do it…'
Makima desperately begged as she clung to whatever she could. However, Allen didn't listen. He wouldn't. Not since he had decided to stop holding back.
"Tell me, what were you doing to my lovely maid?"
"Idiot..." Makima frowned, but she couldn't stop her usually expressionless face from flushing. She clutched Allen's clothes cursing the day she met him.
Allen smiled mischievously, "I told you once only I can intimidate you..."
...
(Five minutes later)
Albedo landed on a building, desperately searching for Allen. As a doll, she could always know where he was, yet Allen was still moving all over the Seireitei.
"Damn it, he's gone again!"
Allen knew that Albedo had achieved an overwhelming victory against her opponent, so retrieving her was a low priority.
Albedo screamed and bit her nails, her beautiful face twisting into a psychotic grimace.
"Is Allen-sama ignoring me? No, with his personality, that's impossible! But why is he leaving me behind?!"
Albedo stopped, pulled out her axe, and smashed the building in half.
"It must be all those sluts! They all pretended to be defeated so Allen-sama would go rescue them and cling to him like whores!"
On the surface, Albedo was cordial with the other dolls, but she was a possessive woman. Although she knew that trying to push the other girls away was harder than defeating them in a fight, Albedo at least wanted to be the most important doll. Of course, that would be very difficult.
'Allen-sama🖤~" Albedo's worry mixed with her desire to be the first.
Her sharp eyes gleamed with murderous intent as she approached Allen, who was hugging Makima and kissing her.
"What the hell?!"
Albedo couldn't imagine witnessing this situation. This was Makima we were talking about. Even as a recent doll, she could understand that the relationship between her master and Makima was one of hatred. But there she was—Makima clinging to Allen while he held her by the waist in midair, kissing her.
Albedo looked around in various directions and only saw Soifon uncomfortably sitting on the ground. She seemed to have given up, showing no signs of resistance. Albedo noticed a pet collar around her neck.
"What happened?!"
===
A/N: I won't lie, I wanted to take the opportunity to give a little development to the dolls that I sometimes leave out of the story.
[Albedo is loyal to the death, just ignore her Yandere/Psychopathic outbursts. 🍷🗿]
