Chapter 81: The Final Battle (8)
“Alex!”
I heard Ariana’s voice once again from the battlefield, some distance away.
She still believes in me after all this.
I tightened my grip on the holy sword in my hand.
There was no way I was going to fall now, not with her watching.
“Alex, take this!”
“…Huh?”
I turned my head towards Ariana, somewhat puzzled by her incomprehensible voice that I heard over and over again.
I stare into space, wondering what the hell she’s asking me to take.
Something big and bulky was coming toward me in the indigo sky.
With a loud thud, the thing flew through the air and crashed to the ground in front of me.
Its shape was so obviously used that I could recognize it at a glance.
“It’s a new sword!”
A jet-black Arming Sword made of dark magic.
It was a sword forged by her powers and shaped exactly like the Arming Sword I had been using.
“…….”
I immediately drew the sword from the ground and picked it up, feeling its familiar weight.
Her reproduction of my weapon was excellent, with the only differences being color and durability.
…Perhaps with this, I can fight again.
I silently thank her in my heart and grip my second sword in a reverse grip.
Now it was time to get back on the offensive.
“You’re being ridiculous. You think that one more sword will change the outcome of the fight.”
“You don’t even know that 1 plus 1 is 2, so I guess you’re not the Demon King, but a talking goat.”
“What the hell is the point of that dark magic sword that can’t even cut into my heart?
Unless you have 2 holy swords, you could bring a hundred such swords and still not be able to hurt me.”
I don’t know if what I’m holding is a demon sword. Or a potential holy sword, only time will tell.
With both swords properly sheathed, I began to close the distance between us again…this time with the sole intention of delivering a blow to its body.
“It’s no use!”
Azazel’s demon sword swung through the air once more, the blade flying straight for my head.
I skillfully parried the first attack with my holy sword, crouched down and took a quick step towards him.
“You cheeky bastard!”
The second attack flew into his left flank.
The holy sword was in my right hand, so it wasn’t easy to defend, and now it was time to test the magic sword Ariana had given me.
If its durability was unsatisfactory, my body would be split in half along with the sword.
It would be impossible to defeat him unless I trusted Ariana now. To be honest, I didn’t have a choice.
I could only parry Azazel’s second attack, convinced that the sword she had forged was the greatest sword in the world.
-KANG.
The two magic swords clashed blade to blade in midair.
Ariana’s sword had not betrayed my expectations, clearly demonstrating its durability.
“Die, you bug!”
I blocked the third attack flying to my right with my holy sword again.
I parried the fourth, which followed immediately, with my magic sword.
After I perfectly blocked the attack that swept across the floor with Ariana’s magic sword, I took the opportunity to stab him in the heart with my holy sword.
“I told you it wouldn’t work!”
It roared as if it had been waiting for me, and a shockwave of dark explosions flew out but this time I had a different plan in mind.
I was able to stabilize my position in midair even as I was hit by the Dark Blast’s shockwave.
“What the…!”
Amidst the waves of dark explosions, I swung my holy sword with one hand and a single minded determination to stab him in the heart.
I used the magical sword I’d stuck in the ground as a support for my body as I blocked the last attack.
“You, you bastard…!”
Azazel, seeing that I was unable to fall despite his desperate measures, let out a hateful curse at me.
“…What?”
He immediately grabbed the blade of my holy sword with his right hand.
“Crack!!!”
At the same time, he summoned all the dark magic in his body at once, and began to contaminate the holy sword, my only offensive weapon.
Panicking, I tried to wrestle the holy sword out of his grasp, but once it was in his grasp, it wouldn’t let go easily.
“Gahhhhh!!!”
Of course, the holy sword’s light power was also formidable so the power of the holy sword was also fiercely resisting the dark magic power.
The resisting energy spread through Azazel’s right hand, which gripped my blade.
“Crack, crack, crack!!!”
Soon, Azazel’s dark magic power eventually caused the holy sword to lose its strength and shatter.
With one arm completely obliterated, he grinned nastily.
“Damn, I tried to avoid using this method if possible, but….”
“…….”
“I can’t help it, my life is on the line, and without that holy sword, there’s nothing that can harm me anyway.”
“…….”
“An arm is a small price to pay for a life, don’t you think?”
I locked eyes with him, who smiled as if he had already won.
I quickly pulled out the magic sword embedded in the ground and executed the plan I had planned from the beginning.
“Who said that the Guardian Holy Sword is the only sword that can kill you?”
“What…?”
I swung my magic sword straight to the right of the guy whose defenses had dropped, aiming for its head, the black horns on its head, to be exact.
“Aaahhhh! You bastard…!!”
Azazel cursed as I slashed at its right horn.
He didn’t even get to finish that last one because I had already ripped the sharp horn from his body and held it in my hand.
The sharp point had pierced his sternum, mortally wounding him.
I felt a heavy, cold sensation from the wound the horn had caused.
A sensation that convinced me I could take him down at this rate.
It was definitely the ending I expected.
Azazel, the Fallen Angel.
It had been perfectly predictable that somewhere on his body, once immersed in the heavens, there would be a remnant of divine power.
The horn that had pierced his heart was glowing with a brilliant light in its cross-section.
“Damn…….Uh, how….”
“How did I figure out that your horn had divine power left in it?”
No wonder I was able to figure it out.
“Because your long horns are probably the only place you could hide your angel halo.
Isn’t that right, fallen angel Azazel?”
“How could you…how could you….?”
I jabbed the broken tip of his horn even deeper into the creature’s heart.
“Khaaaaagh!!!”
Azazel let out an agonizing cry as he released a concentrated dark magic power from his entire body.
Soon, he disappeared from this world, leaving behind only one horn filled with divine power.
“Haaaaaaa….”
Finally, finally, it was over.
The long, long journey to defeat Demon King Azazel had finally come to an end.
“Alex!”
As Azazel’s aura dissipated, the demons summoned from Hell began to vanish in unison.
In the meantime, Ariana was running toward me.
This must be it.
I have destroyed the greatest threat to her life in this world.
With this, I have accomplished all that I had to do to return to the past.
Although I had committed many sins against her and had acted in a way that fell short of her expectations perhaps this is enough to make me pay for my sins.
Even if I were to lie here and die, I wouldn’t mind.
…No, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have any.
Ariana will be my wife, the mother of my child, princess to queen.
It would be a shame not to be with her until the end of my days.
It was a bit of a relief when I started to realize that I wanted what I couldn’t have.
But now I’m more content than regretful, because I can tell anyone who asks that I’ve had a great life.
Most of all, I’m able to accept myself for who I am.
“Alex!”
I hear Ariana’s voice calling out my nickname, and I finish my resolution silently in my mind.
I would use the little time I still had left in life for her, and I would embrace the moment when it was time to say goodbye.
Hopefully, that would be enough to repay her for trusting me.
“Alex, Alex!”
“Yeah, it’s okay, it’s all over now.”
“Alex, come on, come on!”
What the hell is so urgent about?
She repeated my name over and over again, as if she didn’t even want to give me a chance to catch my exhausted breath.
“Okay, okay, now let’s get things organized and get back to the dorms.
It’s a little late to pull the carriage out today, so perhaps the carriage back to the palace should leave tomorrow morning….”
“That’s not what I meant, you better get ready!”
“Huh?”
I stood up as stiffly as I could to go back to the dormitory but I was forced to sit back down on the floor as I tried to get up.
“What, what’s wrong, Ariana?”
“Forget it, take off your clothes, now!”
“……what?”
“Take off your clothes and get on the floor like this, we’re running out of time!”
The unintelligible words that came out of her mouth stunned me.
You’re scaring me, Ariana.
