I Was Sold to My Mortal Enemy (Double Transmigrations)

Chapter 48 - I

On the first day of the New Year, before dawn, a chorus of firecrackers echoed through the village.

Shi Yi rose early in the morning, though his weakened waist left him feeling somewhat dazed. Nevertheless, he managed to get up and prepare the offerings.

On this first day of the new year, the villagers of Xiangshan Village would gather to collectively honor the mountain deity, beseeching for favorable weather and abundant harvests in the coming year.

Due to the frigid weather and heavy snowfall, Aunt Hong and Shi Mo stayed at home to look after their three children.

Pei Xing held a basket in one hand and grasped Shi Yi’s hand in the other. Both of them were clad in matching ice-blue cloaks that Shi Yi had crafted himself when he had free time. A layer of duck feathers was artfully stuffed between the layers, and Pei Xing had dedicated considerable effort to gather the duck feathers.

Shi Yi’s head was snugly hidden under the hood, revealing only a small, palm-sized face. Against the backdrop of a circle of snow-white rabbit fur, his skin appeared exceptionally fair and clear. His bright and captivating eyes sparkled with happiness as they curved into crescent moons. He extended his fingers, as white as jade, and playfully tugged at the corner of Pei Xing’s garment, seeking praise.

“How do you like the cloak I made? It’s incredibly warm, isn’t it?”

“Yes, it’s very warm.”

Pei Xing was amused by Shi Yi’s appearance. Seeing that there was no one around, he wrapped his arms around Shi Yi’s waist and hugged him. Drawing him close, he kissed those plump, rosy lips.

“Don’t act like a hungry wolf all the time.” Shi Yi swiftly pushed him away and glanced around, finding no one nearby. He heaved a sigh of relief and his face flushed slightly. He cast a displeased look at Pei Xing, recollecting last night’s events that further flustered him. His waist was still weak as a result.

“Why are you still so bashful? We’ve been together countless times. If you could get pregnant, you might already have a baby in your belly.” Pei Xing chuckled and reached out to stroke Shi Yi’s reddened cheek.

“You’re the only one who could carry a baby in your belly!!”

Shi Yi’s irritation only grew when he heard the remark about carrying a baby. He shoved Pei Xing away, took long strides forward, and refused to engage in further conversation.

Worried that Shi Yi might slip on the icy ground, Pei Xing hurriedly pursued him and enfolded him in his arms.

Unwilling to push him away, Shi Yi allowed Pei Xing to hold him, although he remained silent during their walk.

.

Once they arrived, they found a crowd of villagers gathered in front of the mountain deity’s stone statue.

Shi Yi spotted Song Ning and Zhou Yan among the villagers.

Song Ning kept his head down, appearing gloomy.

Zhou Yan frequently glanced at Song Ning; his brows knitted in concern.

It was clear that something was amiss with these two. Shi Yi felt uneasy and didn’t dare to ask, making him slightly absent-minded when he was around Pei Xing. He occasionally stole glances at Song Ning and Zhou Yan.

On the other side, Chu Nan spotted them, pulled Zhouzhou to their direction, and expressed his gratitude with a smile on his face. “Thank you, sister-in-law, for the wine yesterday. Zhouzhou and I had a wonderful time.”

Beside him, Zhouzhou’s face had turned bright red, and he couldn’t even raise his head.

After consuming the wine, the previous day, their passion had burned fiercely, leaving them both disoriented. They only felt a sense of shame after passionately pursuing each other. Their ardor had waned by early morning.

Upon hearing the mention of wine, Pei Xing glanced at Shi Yi, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes, and remarked, “As long as you lead a joyful life, the effort we’ve invested isn’t in vain.”

Pei Xing purposefully emphasized the phrase “effort we’ve invested”, which Chu Nan didn’t comprehend but accepted with a hearty laugh as he expressed his gratitude.

Shi Yi pursed his lips, feeling his ears grow warm, and averted his gaze, trying to ignore them.

Pei Xing, observing Shi Yi’s displeased countenance, discreetly squeezed his hand.

On the other side, Zhouzhou tugged at his husband’s clothes and signaled him to stop speaking.

Chu Nan considered his wife’s shy disposition and refrained from further conversation. He would be performing on the drums later and needed to conserve his energy. After thanking Pei Xing, he took his wife and joined the crowd.

Pei Xing and Shi Yi thought the crowd was too large and opted to stand on the periphery.

.

After some time, the villagers ascended the circular platform, offering their blessings and reciting congratulations. The sound of drums soon echoed, as several boys and girls took the stage to perform ritual dances. Following the dance, the village chief led the community in worshiping the mountain deity, with each family presenting their meticulously prepared offerings.

Shi Yi believed he could depart after delivering their tributes, so he gently pulled Pei Xing, intending to head back home swiftly.

Pei Xing embraced Shi Yi, securing his cold hand, and explained, “The ceremony isn’t over yet. We still need to partake in the ritual wine-drinking. Zhou Yan and I will be hunting in the mountains afterward. Once we’ve completed the wine ceremony, I’ll take you back home.”

“Hunting?!” Shi Yi became intrigued and looked at Pei Xing with eager eyes. “Can I go with you?”

“Aren’t you still tired?” Pei Xing raised the corners of his lips and placed his large hand on Shi Yi’s waist, pressing lightly.

Shi Yi huffed and nearly crumpled to the ground under the pressure. He scowled at Pei Xing and mumbled, “I’ll be bored if I go back. Please take me along to see.”

As he spoke, Shi Yi furrowed his brows and contemplated whether there might be regulations barring outsiders from participating, “If there are no restrictions on outsiders”

“There is no such rule. I will take you if you want to go.” Pei Xing clasped Shi Yi tightly and slipped his large hands inside Shi Yi’s cloak to warm his waist.

Once the villagers had completed their offerings, Pei Xing and Zhou Yan proceeded to assist in carrying the wine. Seizing this opportunity, Shi Yi dashed over to Song Ning to make amends.

When Song Ning heard Shi Yi recount their experience with the medicinal wine from the previous day, he shook his head and smiled, his lips tinged with a touch of bitterness.

“I also wish to thank you for making my dream come true.”

Shi Yi hadn’t expected Song Ning to say this and felt somewhat surprised. He gazed at the desolate expression on his face, which was not what he should be after such an achievement.
