I Was Sold to My Mortal Enemy (Double Transmigrations)

Chapter 49 - II

Song Ning, pale and shaking, hugged himself tightly, biting his lip to prevent himself from making a sound. Zhou Yan, casting a complex glance at Song Ning, picked up the cloak from the ground and wrapped it around him, trying to shield him from view and prepare to take him back home.

Song Ning was in deep turmoil, and he refused to go back in his current state. He buried his face in his knees, trembling, and implored, “You go away, leave me alone.”

Zhou Yan couldn’t bear to leave him like this. He gently picked him up and found a clean spot. He started to unfasten his clothes and then raised Song Ning’s face to kiss him. At first, Song Ning was taken aback, but within moments, he wrapped his arms around Zhou Yan’s neck.

.

Meanwhile, Liu Yingying, who had been waiting nearby to check on her plan’s success, heard the sounds of ecstasy coming from the thatched house. She thought that Zhu Laosan had succeeded, and her lips curled into a triumphant smile, her eyes filled with mockery. She couldn’t wait to see how Pei Xing would react to this disgrace.

Before leaving, she noticed specks of blood on the snow and took the time to cover them up.

.

Shi Yi, who had gone hunting with Pei Xing on the mountain after the worshipping ceremony, was wrapped in Pei Xing’s cloak and scurried around like a little rabbit.

They had only hunted a few mountain rabbits and pheasants, as this stupid prey did not require an extensive hunt method.

Once they returned, Shi Yi cradled two snow-white little rabbits in his arms, his bright eyes and rosy cheeks radiating joy. Oblivious to the fact that Song Ning had shouldered a burden for him.

.

Three days later, Liu Yingying returned to the thatched house, money in hand, and a triumphant smile on her lips. It was as if she could already picture Shi Yi’s miserable state.

When Zhu Laosan saw her gloating, he grabbed her hair, dragged her into a room, threw her to the ground, and bound her hands with his belt, before giving her a stern slap.

“Damn you, you foul bitch! It was your treacherous plans that nearly got me killed. You’ve been living well these days. I can’t trust you to do anything right. I’m the one who got into this mess.” Zhu Laosan grew angrier and angrier as he thought about this bitch and her deal.

Maybe he should have let Song Ning go and he wouldn’t have come close to being beaten to death by Zhou Yan. Over the past few days, he had been afraid to leave his hiding spot, fearing that Zhou Yan would catch him and kill him if he left this place.

Liu Yingying was horrified, staring at him with wide eyes. “Zhu Laosan, my father is the village chief, and my relative is an official. If you dare to harm me, you are not afraid of me telling them to punish you!”

“I’m Zhu Laosan, and I’m a human being. What do I have to lose by dying? But you, Liu Yingying, you’re just a worn-out rag, and no one will want you after I’m done with you.” Zhu Laosan didn’t waste any more words and promptly started to undress her.

Zhu Laosan didn’t exit the thatched house in neat attire until noon.

.

The two little rabbits brought back by Shi Yi caught the attention of Xiao Liu and the other children. After their kung fu practice, they all flocked to see the rabbits. The children had great fun running in the snow, chasing and playing with the little rabbits.

Pei Xing’s recent odd behavior included insisting on morning martial arts practice with Xiao Liu and Hong Luo, which Shi Yi tried to participate initially but gave up on after just two days.

Another strange thing, Song Ning and Zhou Yan suddenly became inseparable, yet they refused to discuss what was going on.

However, it wasn’t until a fire tragically claimed the lives of all five members of Zhu Laosan’s family that their village attracted the attention of the county officials, prompting an investigation.

Pei Xing noticed something amiss with Zhou Yan and managed to extract the truth from him. He was shocked to learn that Zhu Laosan had kidnapped someone, thinking it was Shi Yi, but had taken Song Ning instead.

“It was all because Shi Yi was worried about Xiao Ning being cold and gave him his own cloak, which led to Zhu Laosan kidnapping the wrong person.” Zhou Yan explained.

Pei Xing glanced at Zhou Yan, searching for any signs of deception or guilt.

“Don’t look at me like that,” Zhou Yan replied. “I didn’t do it. I’ve been with Xiao Ning these days. This is a blessing in disguise, making me realize the truth. It’s all because of that cloak…”

Pei Xing’s reaction was to say, “You can have mine when we get back.” as wearing only one of the couple’s cloaks seemed pointless at this point.

Zhou Yan expressed his thanks, and they both looked out at Song Ning and Shi Yi playing happily in the snow in the yard.

Zhou Yan explained, “I actually want to tell you but Xiao Ning was scared of making Shi Yi guilty of lending the cloak. So, I kept it until now.”

Pei Xing responded, “It’s fine. Shi Yi would only feel bad a little bit, but it was unfortunate event so no one should be blamed. I could take care of him, so no one should worry about his happiness.”

Zhou Yan wanted to say that protecting Shi Yi was one thing, but Pei Xing’s approach ended up spoiling the shuanger. However, he decided not to say anything, reflecting on his own past behavior when he was consumed by his feelings but never spoke up.

In the end, Zhou Yan didn’t voice his concerns, acknowledging that love was a complex and inexplicable thing.
