I Was Sold to My Mortal Enemy (Double Transmigrations)

Chapter 57 - I

Shi Yi lowered his head and refrained from speaking further, fearing that he might provoke this person.

Baili Qing snorted with disdain and paid no attention to him. He stood up, grabbed an animal skin to cover the door, preventing any possible escape in the night.

Shi Yi cautiously glanced at the window that wasn’t blocked from the wind, contemplating his chances of escape. However, he knew that venturing into the unknown was highly risky. He was uncertain of the direction back to Xiangshan Village, and even if he managed to escape, he could still be abducted by others.

Despite his dilemma, he decided to attempt an escape the following day. He hoped that Pei Xing was actively searching for him, and he might encounter him on the way. If not, he would need to devise another plan upon reaching Nanzhou City.

After pondering for a considerable time, he drifted off to sleep in a daze. During the night, a cool breeze entered through a broken window, and Shi Yi awoke abruptly. The room’s lights had been extinguished, leaving only faint moonlight to illuminate his surroundings. He quietly stood up, made his way to the window, took a deep breath, rolled out, and then stealthily hid in the kitchen.

As dawn approached and the sky grew brighter, Baili Qing suddenly woke up and noticed that Shi Yi was nowhere to be found. His face turned livid with rage, and he tossed aside the animal skin before rushing to the courtyard to mount his horse and give a chase.

Shi Yi cautiously poked his head out of the kitchen and observed Baili Qing galloping away. Without a second thought, he darted out of the house and stood at the gate, pondering his escape route. Uncertain of which direction to take, he finally opted for the opposite way, running headlong in fear that Baili Qing might return.

Shi Yi wasn’t sure how long he had been running when he suddenly heard raucous laughter from a group of people. He came to an abrupt stop and looked up, spotting a peculiarly dressed group on horseback. Panicking, he turned and fled in the opposite direction.

The group of people immediately noticed him and began chasing after him on horseback, jeering and even howling like wolves.

Shi Yi’s heart raced, and he cried out for help at the top of his lungs while sprinting at full speed. He now regretted his hasty escape, knowing that fleeing had only worsened his situation.

.

Baili Qing, who was pursuing him on horseback, sensed that something was amiss. He promptly returned to the original route but soon heard the commotion. Quickly retracing his steps, he chased after the loud noises.

Since a two-legged human could never outrun four-legged horses, Shi Yi was soon encircled by the group on horseback. They taunted him like a helpless prey.

“Hahaha, he’s a shuanger. We’ve struck gold this time.” one of them declared, eliciting laughter from the others.

Shi Yi shut his eyes, took a deep breath, and let out a resounding roar in desperation, shouting for help until his voice wavered and broke, leaving him coughing incessantly.

The group found his cries amusing and were about to mock him further when a bamboo spear unexpectedly pierced the throat of one of them, causing blood to spurt out.

Shi Yi’s eyes widened, and a few drops of warm blood splattered onto his face. Dumbfounded, he reached out to touch it, the vivid crimson stark against his skin. Suddenly, a loud thud reverberated as a lifeless body fell to the ground.

It wasn’t until angry curses rang in his ears that Shi Yi regained his senses. He looked up to witness a tall figure seemingly materializing from thin air. This mysterious individual wielded a bamboo spear and expertly struck down one of the riders. In the process, the rider had been knocked from his horse.

Suddenly he got caught up and sat in the man’s arms. Before Shi Yi could react, a familiar voice sounded in his ears.

“Hold on tight, stay put.”

Shi Yi raised his head, tears welling up. He embraced Pei Xing tightly, burying his face in his arms.

“Lao Gong, you’ve finally found me.”

Pei Xing had never heard Shi Yi address him this way before. He almost dropped the bamboo spear in his hand. Coughing, he tried to comfort Shi Yi, “I’m here; don’t be afraid.”

He glared coldly at the menacing strangers before him, appearing to be bandits from Nanyi who had sought refuge in Dayu. Patting Shi Yi’s back, Pei Xing whispered reassuringly, “Hold onto me tightly, baby.”

Shi Yi immediately complied. He hugged Pei Xing’s waist tightly, burying his face in his chest. He immediately realized that Pei Xing’s clothes were still wet and stained with mud. He knew that Pei Xing hadn’t rested and had been tirelessly searching for him. In concern, he rubbed the man’s chest to comfort him.

Pei Xing held Shi Yi securely in his arms with one arm while clutching the thin bamboo stick in his other hand. Having witnessed two of the bandist meet their demise in quick succession, others didn’t dare to take any further risks. The atmosphere was tense when suddenly, the sound of approaching horses reached their ears. Horses neighed, and another rider emerged in the distance.

The bandits believed that reinforcements of the man had arrived, so they stopped harassing Pei Xing and Shi Yi, turned around, and swiftly rode away on horseback.

.

Pei Xing was about to leave, but Baili Qing intercepted them, blocking their path. He looked at Pei Xing with an unfriendly glare, combining it with a certain degree of admiration. He hadn’t expected this villager to have such tenacity. However, his attitude was clear.

Baili Qing raised his chin and declared disdainfully, “You can leave, but the person you’re holding must stay.”

Pei Xing’s eyes darkened suddenly. He tightened his grip on the bamboo stick and, with a cold tone, replied, “I intended to let you go, but it seems that’s unnecessary.”

Upon hearing their conversation, Shi Yi peeked out from Pei Xing’s embrace and spoke up, “We can’t leave him. He possesses the blueprint for my farm tool design.”

Pei Xing promptly discarded the bamboo stick without uttering a word more.

Baili Qing didn’t have time to react to Pei Xing’s actions. He merely heard a horse whinny in agony and saw a bamboo shaft protruding from the horse’s forehead. As the horse stumbled and fell, Baili Qing was forced to dismount. Before he could regain his footing, Pei Xing swiftly delivered a powerful kick.

Afterward, Pei Xing dismounted and knelt on Baili Qing’s back, using his belt to immobilize him.

Baili Qing was in disbelief, finding it hard to fathom that a man’s weight could be this oppressive. The sensation of a thousand pounds on his back made it nearly impossible to breathe, and he felt nauseous.
