Chapter 13: I’m Rope
Viridian City Poké Center
"Please, Nurse Joy."
Rope smiled and handed the Pokéball in his hand to Nurse Joy behind the counter.
"Good, your Pokémon will be well taken care of." Nurse Joy responded with a sweet smile.
Rope nodded, still comfortable with the Joys' healing methods, after all, it was a monopoly, and wouldn't last much longer in the increasingly formalized League without a couple of tricks.
Rope stepped aside and pulled his cell phone out of his backpack, finding Professor Oak's number and dialing it. He'd had no signal at all in Viridian Forest, so he couldn't reach anyone else. He could make a call from the Poké Center.
Soon, Professor Oak's voice came over the phone.
"Rope, you finally got out of Viridian Forest! I was worried that something had happened to you."
Professor Oak's tone was full of joy and concern. Rope smiled and said with the corners of his mouth rising, "Yes, Professor, I've gotten out of Viridian Forest, so the forest is so interesting."
But it was really interesting, nothing like Rope had imagined before.
Professor Oak's hearty laugh came through the earpiece. As someone who had traveled, Professor Oak knew that the stories parents told their children about adventures were both true and false, and that the world of Pokémon wasn't as gentle as the fairy tales and Pokémon movies made it out to be.
That's why even though the threshold for trainers has been lowered again and again, trainers are still a minority in this world. Not everyone was able to step out of their beautiful dreams and face the reality head on.
"You collected the Pokémon you wanted, right? What kind of Pokémon was it?"
"It's Charmander, a very talented Charmander, the genetic skill is Dragon Rush, and looking at the efficiency of the mobilization of dragon energy in the body it should be that there was a Dragon-type Pokémon in the previous generation, or the kind that isn't weak in terms of strength and species. Originally it should have been a beginner Pokémon, but unfortunately it was released for some reason." Rope's tone had a mixture of celebration and doubt in it.
He really wondered, to say that this Charmander's talent was absolutely no match, thought that the new trainer who got this Charmander was either a real Emperor or his family had asked someone to find a relationship to get a Charmander with excellent talent. But why would it be abandoned?
And why is it that Charmander is the only one to be dumped? Ash's old sprayer1 is no slouch, but it's been dumped as well. Is this the hidden characteristic of Charmander? Rope wondered.
Professor Oak was also puzzled as he listened, this kind of talented beginner Pokémon wasn't a rotten commodity within the alliance either. If you want to get your hands on it, you'll have to make a lot of effort. As for Rope's thought of the Emperor, Professor Oak didn't even think about this possibility, it's simple, within the internal are not enough to share, outsiders want to get it? What are you thinking?
"Anyway, don't think about that much for now, since it can be taken in by you, then it means that it has been released, then they don't have the position to say something that is not there."
Professor Oak said seriously.
Rope nodded and then heard someone calling him and turned his head to find Nurse Joy carrying Charmander's Pokéball on a tray with one hand and greeting him with the other to retrieve it.
Rope nodded towards Nurse Joy, then turned around and walked that way, while walking, he said to Professor Oak on the phone, "I'm not worried about the other side saying something, I'm just afraid that there is some kind of knot in Charmander's heart, and if there is some kind of unresolvable depression, it will be very unfavorable to Charmander's development. very unfavorable. Even if it's not from a trainer but from a breeder's point of view, I want to figure this out."
Professor Oak nodded at that, it was true, if Pokémon was depressed all the time it could go wrong in every sense of the word.
"Alright, I'll check it out for you, Charmander with this kind of qualification are already rare, and you met them in Viridian Forest, then it won't be hard to check out the new trainers that can be around."
"Good, then please do, Professor."
"Remember to get this year's Champion Conference back!"
"Don't worry, by the way I have something else to talk to you about, so let's talk about it later when we stay at the hotel. About my abilities."
Professor Oak's eyes on the other side of the phone immediately changed, he knew that if Rope brought up this matter, it meant that there was a big problem with his ability, he just didn't know if this problem was good or bad. Good would be just fine, but bad...
"Yeah, do you want me to teleport Arcanine over to you?"
Professor Oak's tone was smiling, but Rope knew he was pretty nervous right now.
"Don't worry, it's a change for the better."
Professor Oak let out a sigh of relief at that and said, "Then just find a place to settle down as soon as you can and tell me the ins and outs."
"Okay Professor, I'll hang up first, this side has been treated, I'll go find a place to stay in a while."
Professor Oak said as if he suddenly remembered something, "You can borrow a place at Viridian Gym, the Gym Leader there is Blue anyway."
"Yeah, that would work, I'll be there in a few minutes."
"Eh."
Rope hung up the phone, looked at the smiling Nurse Joy in front of him, scratched the back of his head and said, "Sorry, Nurse Joy, old people are nagging."
He'd been standing at the counter for a while, but it wasn't polite to take the Pokéball while he was on the phone, so he stood there until he finished the call, and Nurse Joy waited until he was finished, which, on second thought, wasn't very polite either.
Sometimes the best of both worlds is not available, not even the lesser of two evils.
It was nothing more than a so-called dilemma.
Nurse Joy covered her mouth and laughed softly, "You're welcome, your Charmander is back to health, but still, I hope we don't have to put this newborn Pokémon through such intense training."
Rope nodded, realizing that the reason Charmander had passed out was because of over exertion. It seemed that the little guy had a real competitive streak, and he wanted to beat up Rope even when he was exhausted.
Eh... it could also be because Rope is too petty.
If you block it down, you block it down, you're hated for making it impossible to hit someone like that.
But that should have convinced Charmander.
He wants to yell "Charmander, get daze1 ☆". But in terms of age, he couldn't do such a stupid thing when he was going to be a sophomore.
So he just silently shrunk the Pokéball and put it in the satchel on his waist.
He was about to leave when he heard Nurse Joy ask.
"What is your name, sir? Want to register for the Indigo Plateau Conference?"
Rope flinched, then smiled:
"My name is Rope, and I'm already registered."
Then he turned and walked out of the Poké Center.
Nurse Joy looked at Rope's departing back and muttered to herself, "The previous ones were Mr. Red and Mr. Blue, and now Professor Oak has his eye on this Mr. Rope?"
"A new legend is going to appear again?"
