Austin’s Origin~2!
Witches are folklore creatures even for Austin's new world where things like mana and demons were a reality.
Dwarves, Witches, Elves, Vampires, and many other fantasy beings are often discussed and people knew they existed but no one found any evident clue to prove their presence.
One of those fairy book subjects—a Witch—is known to be a being who is equivalently greedy as goblins have the talent to alter even the universal law.
It was known widely that in return for a decent sum, a witch can do anything for anyone regardless of the person's intention behind it. And after Luna went for the venture where she found Venessa, she can say that indeed Witches only care for gold nothing else.
But right now something that could be called, being entirely out of character, a witch was actually shedding tears just upon witnessing Austin in front?
Luna was undoubtedly shocked just like the other two, but an ominous sensation made her feel uncomfortable all over. She knew there was something unpleasant to come that Luna might hate to learn.
But, was there anything she could do rather than face the reality?
"W-What happened? Why are you crying?"
Austin walked forward and asked in a fluster since the old granny looked rather pitiful crying like this all of a sudden.
The witch was quite touched seeing the gesture as she tried to somehow collect herself.
She knew this moment would be arriving as soon she felt spiritual energy channelizing above her head but still that doesn't help her to get prepared for this situation.
Wiping away her tears which greeted the lady after who knows how long, she spoke in a hoarse voice.
"Please sit down, first."
With such words, the three of the guests felt the surroundings altering in real-time before they found themselves, sitting around a tea table.
Even Luna wasn't able to trace the transition of the magic and by no means she was happy about being outplayed.
"What would you like? Tea, coffee?"
"How about we start with some truth?"
Luna's straightforward response which probably both Saya and Austin also were wanting to hear, made the old lady sigh in defeat.
While still wearing her night pajamas and round glasses resting over her long nose, the white-haired woman took the fourth seat, which was in between Luna and Saya.
"The essence of that beast has made you quite short-tempered."
Luna narrowed her gaze coldly since she realized what the witch was speaking about.
Saya and Austin perplexedly blinked at each other before they turned their gazes toward Luna who not long after cleared their doubts.
"Say another word about my grandmother and you may be sharing a table with your sister."
The beast which the old woman referred to, was Luna's grandmother who has trained the girl for years and undoubtedly poured her essence into Luna throughout the time.
Since Saya and Austin knew those godly beings as Guardian Deity, the old witch's referral made them baffled.
Regarding a deity as a beast was truly a little…
Hearing Luna's clear threat, the old woman just smiled with a shake of her head as she magically brought a set of cutlery and a hot teapot over the table.
"You killed Liliana huh? Well, not like I cared about that corrupted bitch."
Austin looked toward Luna in hope of hearing what this old lady was talking about.
Luna previously thought to talk about this after clearing this mess out and after having a good night rest. But well, since the topic was brought up, there wasn't anything Luna sought to hide.
"The person who created that Mana restrictor was also a Witch whom I found some days ago. Apart from being forced by some unknown entity, she didn't provide much intel." (Luna)
Austin didn't have to ask what Luna must have done after scraping out the information and he was pretty satisfied with it.
That artifact was the reason why Luna fell into such miserable conditions during the war. There was nothing less than death that could have compensated for such a sin.
"You did a great job, out there."
Gently squeezing her hand over the table, Austin spoke in a soft tone making Luna smile in glee as she enjoyed the blissful moment.
Being complimented by her darling was the best thing she could count on until this date.
There was a small smile hanging on the old woman's lips but soon it disappeared as she remembered what has to come in the youngster's life.
"Are you okay, ma'am?"
Saya asked in an unsure tone since she was reading the Witch's expression all this time. The sudden shift of emotions was so vivid that Saya felt slightly scared of the lady's thoughts about her Onii-sama.
After pouring down the milk tea into four cups, the lady swirled the teapot back into thin air before she looked at Austin and spoke in a weak tone.
"My life is nearing its end. So please, I request you to consider before trying to kill me."
It was evident that the woman was pleading to Austin with those words but that was quite baffling.
There was no reason for Austin to kill the lady until she doesn't attack him first. And taking her behavior into the account, it doesn't seem she was interested in fighting them whatsoever.
"Why would I… attack you…?"
Austin's query was to be expected but the woman's following words made clear all the doubts in one go.
"The one who created this Villain's system while keeping you as the primary subject was none other than me."
