Isn’t the wannabe Villain too cute?

Purpose of this system?

"Before I tell you the reason why I ever created this system, I want to ask you something."

Austin blinked in perplexion since he didn't have any idea what she would be asking even though his life cycle was pretty much monitored by the lady.

Without thinking much, he nodded before the woman leaned slightly forward as her eyes radiated with somewhat severity.

"If the Demon Lord and the First Guardian Deity once again engage in a heaven-shattering war… which side would you pick?"

That was not some tricky inquiry from the lady's side since anyone who has been living among the humans while being shadowed by the protection of the Guardian Deities would answer in their favor.

Demons are creatures who know nothing out of destruction and chaos. Siding with them would be utterly foolish for distinct reasons.

Not to talk about Luna's relationship with her grandma or to say a Guardian Deity. Luna had the essence of a heavenly being so there seemed only an obvious route to walk upon.

However…

"I will not take any side if war really breaks out."

The expression on Saya and the Witch's faces evidently took a turn of surprise as they heard Austin's non-hesitant response.

Luna was sitting with her eyes unfocused since she was already aware of what her husband had thought of their future. And she had no problem with such an opinion at all.

"You won't take either side? But why? With your strength and coupled with your women you can easily overwhelm your opposition with a huge margin."(Amanda)

It was true that Austin had a lot of room for growth before the resurrection of the Demon Lord takes place and not to talk about Saya and Luna's assistance.

But Austin has already thought about this a long time ago and he still adhered to his beliefs rigidly.

"I have learned a long time ago to never follow what others force you to believe. Not every time Gods are a source of prosperity and not every time Demons tend to bring detriment. I just seek my own happiness and for that this world can burn all it wants."

Holding Luna and Saya's hands on either side, Austin smiled in satisfaction as the conclusion followed soon after.

"Just a small space where I can spend the rest of my life with my loved ones would be enough for me."

Austin felt he was sounding like an old man but it was what he desired and could go to greater degrees to attain.

A life where his lover and sister can coexist with him would be everything Austin could demand. He never sought strength or he would have taken advantage of his system. Neither he liked fame or any other superficial source of happiness to pretend like a happy man.

He just wants to live in peace.

"Never thought I would be hearing such a thing from such a young boy."

Austin frowned slightly since what he suspected of himself, the witch worded it out. But he also agrees that his thoughts really don't match his appearance.

After showcasing a small smile, the old lady leaned back on her chair as she started narrating Austin's previous query.

"You were granted this system because there would be a time when the world would become a literal hell. Demons and Humans would collide and world-shattering chaos would erupt."

Austin was no longer concerned whether Amanda got the answer she desired or not from him. What made him and the other two concerned was the news she broke.

With her eyes oozing with a single emotion of concern, Amanda finished the part of her prophecy.

"And that war would end up swallowing each and every existence from the globe. The vegetation would dry up and so would be mana."

The atmosphere further grew heavy upon hearing the possible future that the Witch had spoken about.

Might be this all bullshit but the war everyone has been expecting after the rebirth of Demon Lord may conclude in the same way which Amanda just conveyed.

The thought of such a world was nothing short of frightening.

Taking a massive factor of concern aside, without mana the world would naturally die out since, like any human being, the planet requires mana as it's a fundamental necessity.

It was indeed dreadful.

"W-what if I stop Demon Lord from its rebirth?" (Austin)

"Then you will invite the inevitable destruction on a sooner date."

Austin was left speechless since there was only one thing he could think of to prevent the war. And that was to stop the Monarch of Darkness from regaining his grip on the reins.

But that would make things worse…?

No one had any idea what to say anymore as Austin leaned back on the chair in utter disbelief before the old lady continued.

"Listen Austin. This system was provided for you to stand in between the two forces and take necessary measures to stop the destruction. I know it might sound ridiculous but this is the sole purpose why the Gods groomed you and I instilled that system."

After she finished speaking, heavy silence dominated the space as Austin stared at nothing constant while registering what the lady stated just now.

It was true that with the system he felt he could become something more. A better version of himself.

But standing against Deities and Demon Lord?

That's nothing less than suicide since neither side is, just powerful. They are literal Planetary level beings who cannot be compared to Captain Charles or Alex Nuèye.

Hell, their comparison is basically impossible.

The Demon King and the First Deity who has taken the role of Gram's guardianship are not the existence to ever be taken lightly.

And to think Austin would be standing as a sole force against these two?

"I know your system gives a lot of overpowered artifacts and skills but it's simply impossible for us to stand against those monstrosities."

Hearing Austin's remark, the old witch tilted her head like Austin seemed to have misunderstood something.

After a short pause, the lady spoke again in an uncertain tone.

"I think you misinterpreted something. This system was never built to grant you strength."

Now Austin was perplexed beyond belief as he glanced at Luna and found her equally confused.

Turning toward the woman with his brows raised and evident bafflement aroused, Austin stayed silent and allowed the lady to explain.

But little did he think that the answer would be so startling to believe his own ear…

"The system is not inside you to make you powerful. It's just there to restrict what you actually possess but never was aware of..…"
