Christopher Bellamy
My name is Christopher Bellamy, but my friends sometimes like to just call me Chris. I am twenty four years old. I live in the city of Yorkshire and work for the world famous mafia organisation Passione. Working for a criminal organisation is a risky business, but it pays enough. On top of that, I am also the leader of the Specialisation Squad, which deals with... well, all sorts of things, but mostly fighting. How it happened that I became a leader, I don't fully understand. As soon as I got to Passion, I was immediately assigned there, but the leader... I was one of the first to join the squad, slowly served and did my job, and soon I earned the trust of the organisation and the other guys in the squad, after which I was officially appointed leader.
To tell you the truth, I didn't plan to live this life at all initially, but all the events unfolded in such a way that I had no choice. Do I like this life? It's quite difficult to say. On the one hand, it pays enough and gives me certain privileges. But on the other hand... my attitude towards the mafia... not the warmest, but I had to become a part of it. Well, I guess that's fate. And fate can be a bitch.
Anyway, I don't want to delve any further into my past. It's not always pleasant.
At the moment there is no work, so I can take a walk, which is what I'm doing now, walking along the streets of the city. But it's not quite clear what I can do. I didn't really have anything planned for today. Well, in that case I can go to a cafe nearby, and near it there is my favourite music equipment shop. Yeah, I'll go there too! If I'm not mistaken, there should be some new equipment arriving today. I'm going to buy new headphones, because my old ones are not only outdated, but they've cracked recently. They're going to fall apart soon.
And it's only a short walk to the shop, by the way. It's just round the corner.
Walking a few dozen metres down a not too busy street, I turn the corner and finally see the very shop I was going to, and near it is a cafe.
Going inside, I saw that the assortment on the shelves has really updated. There were not only new headphones, but also speakers of different sizes, guitars, drums, mellotrons, and in general a lot of new musical equipment. Yes, the clearance is really good. This shop is quite big and it's the best in town, and my favourite.
So, what kind of headphones should I get? In-ear headphones? No way! I need comfortable ones with quality sound. Wireless? I'd rather shoot myself than wear wireless. They're heavier, need charging, and the sound quality is worse. Then overhead? No, I'd rather go with overheads and wired. But what company? 'Vony, Audio-Techno, Beyonddynamic or AGH? All these are great companies, but they try to fool everyone when they write in the characteristics of all sorts of nonsense, such as the claimed frequencies. Some write that their headphones can produce up to 100000 Hz. All this is pure bullshit, because the range in which a person can hear, is from 16 Hz to 20000 Hz, but what the manufacturers write - this is pure marketing. But still, even still, even despite this, these companies have the best headphones. They're also fucking expensive! Even the cheapest ones still cost a decent amount of money, compared to the others that are designed for a wider audience. In that case, I'll take the cheapest of the top ones. I'm not an audiophile. I'm a music lover at most. So I don't need the best and most expensive.
Oh and the guys will scold me for spending so much money on such things, but that's my business. And besides... I haven't bought a new player yet, hehe. Okay, headphones are done, now we can go to the coffee shop.
Putting on the headphones, plugging them into the player and turning on the music, I walked ten more steps and found myself in a cafe. Surprisingly, there weren't many people there today.
I didn't really want to eat, but I could use a coffee, so I sat down at the counter and ordered one for myself.
I took my headphones off for a couple of seconds to get a better fit for my head, and then I heard the music playing in the cafe... if you could call it that. I wish they'd put on some rock, but they're putting on some pop junk. I'd rather listen to my own music.
In the meantime, Emperor Crimson started playing in my player. I bloody love that band! They're the kings of progressive rock. The only downside is that you can die of old age while waiting for a new studio album. But otherwise... these guys are just something. And their last album, in which they experimented again and played some progressive metal, just blows my mind. At least for me.
- Happy with what you have to be happy with
You have to be happy.
Oh, shit! I was so into it, I started humming it out loud. Oh well, there's no shame in humming this kind of music. In fact, I should really buy a new player, because mine doesn't have enough memory for all the songs I want to put in it.
I was about to finish my coffee and was about to leave when suddenly I was hit with an unpleasant feeling. Such an unpleasant aura... I think I know what it's about. I don't get this feeling very often, but if I do, it's only when I meet a few people. And right now, I think I can even guess who exactly it belongs to.
Turning my head towards the exit, I saw who I was expecting. From the looks of it, he'd just walked in, and like me, he clearly wasn't happy to see me.
That bastard... John Bellew. One of the members of the Elimination Squad. The squad I despise the most. They're some of the worst, if not the worst, people I've ever seen in my life. Murderers and scoundrels who are given the dirtiest jobs and who will use any method to get the job done. They're Passione's lapdogs. There's no trust in them because the whole squad is made up of scum. Even their superiors don't trust them. John Bellew is not the worst person in the squad, but since he is one of them, that makes him by definition a scumbag. There's no one else, though.
I hate the Elimination Squad. I despise them, but I have to put up with them because the organisation needs them... according to the brass. I'd destroy them all if they'd let me. I could do it anyway, but I'd have to hold back or I'd get in trouble. I have to try to calm down.
Bellew had calmed down a bit, unlike me. He's just passed by, and he looks like he's gonna sit down and eat here. Who the hell does he think he is?! A dirty dog like that isn't allowed to eat around normal people!
- I didn't know dogs went to cafes. How did they even let them in here? This place stinks.
Come on, Bellew, get angry and then I'll have a reason to kill you.
- Bellamy, why the fuck are you fucking with me? What the fuck do you want to do? Give me something to eat. - I couldn't hear what he was saying in my headphones, but I can read lips. And I don't really want to hear his voice.
What, are you trying to hold back? Come on, come on, come on, try. You want to kill me, you're just not in the mood for it right now.
- So why don't you go eat in a rubbish tip? You're used to this kind of food, and you're scaring people away with your filthy appearance. You got no business here, Bellew. Get the hell out of here.
I can't let him eat in a place like this. A scum like him doesn't deserve it! I can see right through him. Although if he'd just go away, that'd be fine too.
- What you're saying to me is nothing more than an empty fart. I'll leave when I want to leave. And you're the one who should be the one who should be gone.
- Bellew, you should know your place. At this rate, you're going to go even further down the shitter. You've got a reputation as chain dogs, and you want to take it even further. You'd better sit tight and stay put. After a while of compliant behaviour, they'll finally start to cut you some slack. What am I talking about? For a dog like you, even that's a perfectly acceptable life.
- But I'd rather be chain dogs than little bitches like you. And when I say bitches, I don't just mean animals, Bellamy.
Who does that dog think he is?! Jealous bastard!
I couldn't contain my anger any longer and I jumped up from my chair, ready to start a fight. Judging from the expression on his face, he was a little glad that he pissed me off, but that's okay... I'll make that face express pain. I'm gonna get him. Come on, Bellew, attack first. If you attack first, it's on you. You'll drive your squad deeper up your arse.
I glanced at his hand and saw that he was holding several small metal balls between his fingers. Not bad, but you can't take me with that!
As I expected, he threw those balls at me, but I was ready for that and dodged it by quickly jumping behind the counter. I know his ability well and I know what he is capable of. Those balls started ricocheting off the walls in an attempt to get me, but their accuracy is clearly lame. I've also learnt that you can control them from a distance for a very small amount of time, so they won't ricochet more than twice.
He took out new balls and threw them at me again, but I was able to dodge them, even though he tore my jacket a bit. He's pretty fast, but I can keep up with him.
Don't think it's going to be that easy, Bellew! Your ability is certainly strong and you're a very strong fighter, but I'm no pushover. The battlefield is certainly not the best for me, but still... against my Muse, even you won't have an easy time!
I materialised my stand - the Muse - which is a red electric guitar, and struck the strings before Bellew could get his hands on the new shells. The powerful sound wave travelled all over the cafe, shattering all the windows, and some furniture even cracked and almost broke.
But right after the strings hit, when I jumped on the counter, I noticed something unusual. Barely had Bellew flung himself back into the wall when I saw that there was some kid behind him at the time. Who was that? Who's the kid? What's he doing here? Naturally, the kid flew off and crashed into the wall with Bellew, but from the looks of him, it didn't hurt him much, which means he's not exactly an ordinary person. But what was he doing behind Bellew? Is he his ally or his enemy? But either way it was his own fault for not wanting to run away like the rest of the visitors, which meant he was prepared for a serious confrontation, and the possibility of getting hurt.
I struck the guitar strings even harder, and now the nearest furniture in the café was turning into wooden shards, but Bellew was still holding on. He's strong, he's strong enough to withstand my sound waves. But I'm not fighting seriously yet, and the battlefield isn't the most comfortable for me.
Bellew, meanwhile, had fully recovered and came at me again. He grabbed whatever he could get his hands on and threw it at me. The speed of his projectiles is great, but I can dodge it. Well, I've attacked you with a wide area attack before, which is designed to fight a bunch of enemies or just stun them, as in your case. But now try my concentrated sound wave!
I pointed the head of the guitar's fingerboard at Bellew and struck the strings, after which a powerful sound wave burst out of him, hitting at a diameter of about one metre, but its power is much greater. However, that arsehole Bellew dodged, leaving the hole on the floor instead of him. Again! And he dodged again, then he grabbed a bunch of knives and swung them at me, unfortunately I couldn't dodge properly.
Cut on my cheek, wound on my arm and hit me in the side. Son of a bitch, that hurts! But you can't let your guard down, get another one!
I fired a shockwave at him again, but he dodged it again by using a rolling kick. I underestimated him, and as a result, he was at my feet and kicked me in the chin, pushing me off the floor with all his might.
My eyes went blurry, and my head, too, and my ears rumbled wildly. Goddamn it, I was angry again and my head snapped up, causing me to underestimate my opponent a little. He's so damn fast, it's hard to keep track of him.
I'm doing my best not to pass out right now, but I'm getting there. No, you can't pass out! If I do, I'm a dead man. By the way, why am I still alive? This is the perfect chance to kill me, and he wouldn't have missed it. Is that so?
When my eyes finally cleared up, I looked up and saw Bellew fighting with that kid, and they're fighting hard. The kid is hitting him with lightning bolts and Bellew is kicking him back and he just gave him a shoulder wound with his teeth and the kid in turn hit him with a lightning bolt and Bellew kicked him to the street.
Poor kid. He's got a good grip and he's got some good ability, but fighting against Bellew...I feel sorry for him. Though he did draw him away from me and thus saved my life, so I need to take advantage of that.
Gathering my strength, I get to my feet and head outside right towards the two still fighting. And that's when I saw my chance to win.
The music equipment shop next to the coffee shop. There seems to be a few brand new, healthy speakers just standing there, inside, near the entrance. Well, it was certainly my favourite shop, but what can you do... sometimes you have to make sacrifices to win.
Another ability of my Muse. I can attack with sound waves not only from my guitar, but also from various sound sources like speakers. The greater the number and power of the speakers, the more powerful the attack will be. And these idiots are standing in front of this shop. Well, I'm gonna show them what I can do when I have the means to fight.
- All right, dicks, ready to hear some real rock?
I raised my hand high and then lowered it, and then I struck the strings of my guitar, and then the speakers in the shop emitted a powerful sound wave that not only blew the whole shop to hell, but also threw Bellew and that kid into the building on the side of the shop.
Sorry, kid, but you were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I touched my head and found that my headphones were intact. That's what I mean by quality. Even this can withstand, and soundproofing is excellent. And these are the cheap ones I got.
Meanwhile, Bellew and the kid ran off in different directions and disappeared from my sight. Well, let them run. I'm not gonna chase them, I'm gonna head back to base instead.
