Chapter 107: Lighting Up the Map
In the mayor's office of Yorknew City, Rosen relaxed as his secretary gave him a massage. He planned to stay in Yorknew for a while longer. Although he had spent a few years in this world, only three months had passed in the Hunter x Hunter world. Time in this realm would freeze whenever he left, so there was no rush to expand it. But now, Rosen wanted time to continue flowing.
Over the past few years, he had slowly injected recovered spiritual energy into his Main God Computer, accumulating more than 15,000 points. He intended to use this to unlock several virtual realms, particularly classic horror films like:
Saw
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Friday the 13th
The Ring
Ju-on
The Eye
Silent Hill
These films, known for their iconic terror, would not only provide intense thrills but also stimulate ordinary people, potentially awakening their spiritual abilities. Their relatively simple settings and characters made them easier to recreate while consuming less spiritual energy.
However, Yorknew City's population of only hundreds of thousands wasn't sufficient for these large-scale horror scenarios. Rosen also had to be cautious, as Yorknew's prosperity depended on a transient population—criminal underworld members, merchants, and tourists. Causing too much havoc could scare away this valuable influx of visitors, damaging the city's economy.
Thus, only the tens of thousands of criminal underworld members would be suitable for Rosen's plans. But even that wouldn't be enough.
He opened the Main God Computer's map interface and turned his attention to Meteor City, located on the same continent as Yorknew.
Meteor City was a massive landfill, covering 6,000 square kilometers, and home to nearly ten million people. It had served as the world's dumping ground for over 1,500 years, with residents living amidst discarded goods, surviving on the edge of death. This population of outcasts and outlaws was perfect for Rosen's horror realms.
With his target identified, Rosen entered the Mysterious Study Room and retrieved a realm once used by Gray Rat to store treasures. This completely controlled realm spanned about 150 kilometers in diameter. Initially, Rosen intended to merge it with his Divine Domain for agriculture, but its potential had remained untapped.
Rosen decided to merge the realm into the Hunter x Hunter world map, expanding the play area. Once the realm was absorbed by the Main God Computer, it lifted the fog of war, revealing Meteor City in full.
In addition to Meteor City, the map now showed a large part of the neighboring Sahilta Federation, an area spanning 100,000 square kilometers with over ten million people.
Although the area had expanded tenfold, the population increase was only ten million because much of the land consisted of uninhabited wildlands filled with dangerous creatures. The cities and towns were clustered in safer regions, with the majority of the population living in far-off settlements.
Rosen now had control over three distinct regions on the world map, allowing him to freely teleport between them. Furthermore, each area enabled him to forge a new identity. In Greed Island, he was a player; in Yorknew, he was the mayor. The more the map expanded, the more opportunities for powerful identities Rosen could assume.
Rosen carefully crafted a new identity for the expanded region of the Sahilta Federation. He chose to become the heir to the Shafiq Corporation, a powerful company that held significant sway over Shafiq State, one of the Federation's largest territories.
The Shafiq Corporation was heavily involved in smuggling operations into Meteor City and maintained control over much of Shafiq State. However, as the new heir, Rosen faced challenges: the corporation's influence was waning, and political struggles threatened its dominance.
This presented Rosen with a dilemma—he now had two major identities: mayor of Yorknew City and heir to the Shafiq Corporation. These two identities might conflict, requiring him to either abandon one or assume a new face.
Unwilling to sacrifice either role, Rosen decided to take on a new appearance for his Shafiq heir identity. He drew a self-portrait on his mental canvas, making slight adjustments: his hair changed from black to blue, and he added gold-rimmed glasses. Minor tweaks to his facial features resulted in a completely different appearance.
Once satisfied, Rosen projected this new face onto a mirror, using spiritual energy to reshape his features. Soon, he transformed into Rosen Shafiq, the blue-haired heir to the Shafiq Corporation.
With his new identity established, Rosen accessed the Main God Computer, which uploaded all necessary details regarding his new role. However, upon reviewing the information, he realized that the Shafiq heir faced significant difficulties. The corporation's governor had turned rogue, and influence in Meteor City was rapidly declining.
Rosen understood that the Main God Computer chose vulnerable, at-risk identities for him to assume—roles where the previous owners were close to dying. By taking over their identities, Rosen had the opportunity to reshape their fate.
The mayor of Yorknew had faced impending death due to his ambitions to break free from the Ten Dons' control. By curbing those ambitions, Rosen had stabilized that identity. Now, as heir to the Shafiq Corporation, Rosen would need to navigate dangerous corporate and political waters to survive and secure his place.
