Chapter 108: Blood-Stained Funeral
Shafiq City, named after the powerful Shafiq family, stood as the wealthiest city in Shafiq State. Yet, the city's wealth couldn't hide the tension in the air. In recent days, gunfire and explosions had become common. Airships hovered above the city, projecting images of Old Shafiq, whose death had plunged the city into martial law.
Shafiq City was built upon a mountain, with the Shafiq family estate dominating the peak. The estate, larger than the city itself, was home to every resident, all of whom worked for the family. Today, a funeral was held in the estate's backyard, as Old Shafiq's death brought together the key managers of the Shafiq Corporation.
Rosen, having infiltrated the city for two days, had used his Freddy's Mind Powers to invade dreams, discerning who among the managers was loyal and who sought to betray him. Today's funeral would be the perfect stage for eliminating dissent. At the end of the day, only loyal supporters would remain.
The priest's eulogy droned on about Old Shafiq's virtues, though few mourned sincerely. Meanwhile, Rosen's loyalists stood on high alert, watching for any signs of rebellion. The tension was palpable as enemies, disguised as mourners, plotted how to dispose of Rosen and seize control of the corporation.
Hovering above, Rosen's Hunter's Eye—his aerial, spiritual observer—scanned the scene from 180 meters in the air. Enhanced by his spiritual energy, which had risen to 18 points after his latest realm expansion, the Hunter's Eye tracked the twenty enemies plotting to strike. It also identified five more lurking adversaries—likely members of an external group seeking to disrupt both sides.
Of the twenty, only three posed a serious threat. The others were weaker, disposable agents. Rosen resolved to take them down first.
The God Slayer Crossbow appeared beneath the Hunter's Eye, locking onto its targets. Simultaneously, a silver-white mist began to spread—spatial mist, a defensive measure generated by the Magic Altar. The altar, concealed within Rosen's Void Gallery, allowed him to rapidly deploy the mist, distorting enemies' perception of direction.
Chaos erupted as the space mist thickened, and silent split arrows from the God Slayer Crossbow rained down on the unsuspecting foes. Seventeen weaker enemies were hit with paralyzing arrows, falling to the ground as their kidneys were pierced.
The remaining enemies struggled to react. Among them, a sunglasses-wearing man materialized a tower shield, which had a cartoonish face that mirrored his own expression. His Nen ability wasn't just a conjured shield but a Nen beast—a living entity that absorbed damage before redirecting it to the nearest target within three seconds.
The man charged at Rosen, intending to transfer the damage from the incoming attack. But Rosen's spatial mist disoriented him, causing him to collide with one of his own allies instead. The damage-transfer effect shattered his comrade's ribs, sending him flying into a gravestone.
The sunglasses-wearing man froze in shock. He had been misled, manipulated by the spatial mist into attacking his own ally. Another space-piercing bolt hit him, but this time he remained still, afraid of repeating his earlier mistake. After three seconds, the damage was transferred—but Rosen had already fired a third arrow, this time aimed at his kidney, taking him down.
"How... How is this possible?" the man gasped as he crumpled to the ground.
Rosen calmly approached the final enemy, a middle-aged woman clutching a jewelry box. Shaking with fear, she activated her Nen ability, shrinking herself and retreating into the box. Rosen picked up the jewelry box, tossing it to his butler, who had wandered nearby.
The last of his enemies subdued, Rosen released sleep-inducing gas to incapacitate the remaining nineteen paralyzed Nen users. As they succumbed to sleep, Rosen activated Freddy's Nightmare Chains, dragging them into a nightmarish realm where he methodically executed each one in their sleep.
As he ended their lives in the nightmare, Rosen also absorbed their Nen and souls into his Divine Domain, transforming them into the first human spiritual residents within his domain. These souls would serve him, their loyalties forever bound to Rosen's will.
