Chapter 48: Chapter 49: The Dark World

This was no exaggeration. The Asgardian guards could only watch as Han Yu and the group appeared and disappeared in a flash. Forget intercepting—they barely even had ten seconds to register their presence before they were gone!

Their flight took only about twenty seconds from the Asgardian palace to their destination.

The Green Lantern ring's maximum speed could reach faster-than-light travel, but Han Yu had only activated about ten percent of its potential.

Asgard itself was a magnificent super-city perched atop a planet, unlike most worlds where inhabitants lived within the planet. Asgardians had built their city directly on the planetary surface.

The planet served as an energy source, powering the city above. Despite its grandeur, Asgard had a relatively small population of just a few thousand. Their destination was in the southeastern mountain range of Asgard, home to the largest mountain in the realm.

On one side of the mountain, there was a narrow crevice—insignificant compared to the massive peak. The crack was about ten meters long and wide enough for five or six adults to walk side by side.

The four streaks of light zipped into the crevice. Inside the dark cavern, the glow resembled the light of the Bifrost as it transported them. In an instant, the four vanished from the cave.

Moments later, the cavern returned to darkness. Only the occasional droplets from the stalactites above fell into shallow puddles on the floor. The cavern remained quiet, undisturbed by the brief intrusion.

Once Han Yu and his companions disappeared from Asgard, two figures silently appeared at the cave's entrance. One was a regal-looking woman dressed in elegant attire, and the other, an elderly man with white hair and a somber expression.

The old man sighed deeply as he gazed into the still cavern. The noblewoman beside him noticed his sorrow and gently patted his back.

"They're grown now," she said softly. "It's time they forge their own paths, not as princes of Asgard but as themselves. They must take on the responsibility of protecting Asgard."

The elder's deep voice echoed in the cave. "Han Yu, I entrust Thor to you. And Asgard... I leave it in your hands. It's time for me to step down and rest."

A flash of dazzling light greeted them as they crossed through the spatial portal. The abrupt brightness made the four instinctively close their eyes. When they reopened them, the opulent daylight of Asgard was gone.

Instead, they stood in a world bathed in a blood-red dusk.

"So, this is the Dark World?"

The group hovered slowly above the ground. Han Yu looked down and saw countless high-rise buildings, now reduced to ruins. It was evident that this planet had once been a glorious city, but its inhabitants had lost their way.

The Dark Elves had sought to use the Reality Stone to dominate other realms, drawing Asgard's wrath. Their folly had left Malekith and his followers as the last remnants of their kind.

Had they exercised restraint and avoided such a direct approach, the Dark Elves, empowered by the Reality Stone, might still rival Asgard to this day.

"What's the plan now?"

After landing, Loki turned to Han Yu. They had made a grand entrance into the enemy's home turf. It would be absurd not to have a plan.

Han Yu stroked his chin thoughtfully for a moment before replying, "Fight. That's it."

"I should've known better than to agree to this," Loki muttered, his expression darkening. No strategy at all? This approach was recklessly bold.

Still, it piqued Loki's curiosity. Han Yu didn't seem like a reckless fool. Since their first meeting, Han Yu had maintained a constant smile, an unsettling grin that never wavered regardless of what was said to him.

Such a man was truly dangerous, which was why Loki's first question upon arrival wasn't directed at Thor but at Han Yu.

"With Han Yu here, we don't need any flashy strategies. It's a guaranteed win!"

Thor spoke with confidence. He had witnessed Han Yu reduce the massive Sokovia island to ashes and then gather it together without needing the divine power of someone like Odin. Moreover, Han Yu could even lift Mjolnir, his own hammer.

Although their acquaintance was brief, Thor trusted Han Yu in this regard. It was this confidence that made Thor agree to come to Asgard without hesitation.

Hearing Han Yu's plan, Thor felt reassured, believing the matter could be resolved effortlessly. However, what Thor didn't notice was the subtle, mischievous smile curling at the corner of Han Yu's mouth, as if he was scheming something.

With their decision made, the group found a relatively sheltered spot to wait patiently for Malekith's arrival.

About half an hour later, a massive, cross-shaped spaceship descended from space, entering the dark planet's atmosphere and slowly landing amidst the ruins.

Compared to the ship, Han Yu and his companions appeared minuscule, making the already oppressive, blood-red world feel even heavier.

"Malekith is here. Get ready!"

Thor's body tensed as he stared at the descending spaceship. He gripped Mjolnir tightly, prepared to fight at any moment.

The ship came to a halt, and a group disembarked, heading in their direction.

Leading the group was an alien with long, white braided hair. Their facial features were similar to humans, but their skin tone was vastly different.

Although they called themselves Dark Elves, their skin looked as if it had been heavily powdered, and they lacked eyebrows, giving them an odd appearance.

"So this is Malekith? He looks pretty ordinary," Han Yu thought. He found Malekith unworthy of serious attention. Han Yu had expected the altered timeline to make Malekith more formidable, but he looked the same as ever.

Like Asgardians, the Dark Elves were advanced extraterrestrials relying on high technology. Their combat strategy mainly involved enhanced physical strength and laser guns. While it didn't seem remarkable, this approach had still claimed many Asgardian warriors' lives.

Malekith stopped at a safe distance, scanning the group. Seeing only four people, he spoke in a calm tone, "Is this supposed to be a plan? I killed the old Odin's wife, and all he sends is the four of you? Two of whom are mere humans?"

From Malekith's perspective, only Thor and Loki posed any combat threat, while Han Yu and Jane were mere burdens.

At the mention of their mother, both Thor and Loki's expressions darkened. Their shared hatred for her murderer burned fiercely; they could think of nothing but tearing Malekith apart.

"Attack!"

Exchanging a glance, the brothers charged. Thor led the way, hurling Mjolnir forward. Blinding lightning danced around the hammer as it smashed into the ranks of Dark Elves, each blow taking down an enemy.

Suddenly, an immense force struck Thor from the side, sending him flying before he could react. As he looked up, a Dark Elf unlike the others charged toward him, far larger and more imposing.

"This is the Dark Elf who killed my mother!"

Recognizing the foe, Thor's eyes gleamed with rage. This was the one responsible for his mother's death. The Dark Elf's immense size and power came from fragments of the Aether within him.

Although the fragments contained less than one ten-thousandth of the Aether's power, they had drastically transformed his body, granting him the ability to drain others' life force to heal himself.

Thor had seen the shriveled corpses of numerous Asgardian warriors drained of life by this very Elf.

"Loki, have you betrayed me again?"
