Chapter 75: Chapter 75: A Moment of Carelessness
"Haha, brilliant, absolutely brilliant!"
Xiao Yan wiped the tears of laughter from the corners of his eyes as he clapped Han Yu on the shoulder. Earlier, Han Yu's remark to Hu Lianna and the others—"You're celebrating too early"—had left them in stitches, so much so that they wanted to start using it themselves.
Who could have expected Han Yu to come up with yet another gem? When the other party politely said, "It's a pleasure to meet you," Han Yu had responded with something so unexpected that it left the other party utterly speechless.
Even Erina couldn't help but laugh. She'd never encountered someone who answered a question in such a way. Sure, she had seen conversations ruined before, but this was different—it was like he shut the door before the chat even began, leaving no way to respond.
What could the other person possibly say? Were they supposed to explain how delighted they were? It was a mere pleasantry, after all. Overstating it would seem insincere, and downplaying it might offend. It was a total conversational trap.
"This guy is too funny! I've never heard anyone answer like that. I love it—I'll have to use this line to stump people in the future," Ma Hongjun said to the person beside him, laughing.
"Sure, you could say it," Dai Mubai retorted bluntly, "but make sure you're ready to handle the consequences. Say it to the wrong person, and you might end up getting beaten up on the spot."
He wasn't wrong. Han Yu could pull it off because he had the strength to back it up. If someone like Oscar tried it, a hot-tempered person might not hesitate to pummel him. That line was practically engineered to create enemies and shut people down.
"You've got quite the sense of humor, young man," the Snake Granny said awkwardly, smiling despite herself. Seeing that Han Yu had no intention of continuing the conversation, she turned her attention back to Zhao Wuji and said, "Let's get back to our business, shall we?"
But before she could continue, Han Yu leapt down from the tree, landing between the two groups. "Here's an idea," he said. "Let's settle this with a little contest. Each of you can describe your spirit ring configurations. Whoever's stronger—I'll help them. The weaker side will just have to bear with it."
Xiao Yan and the others were puzzled by Han Yu's suggestion but decided not to interfere. They sat back with their sodas and popcorn, ready to enjoy the show. With Han Yu stepping in, this was bound to get interesting.
"I am a seven-ring battle soul saint. My spirit rings are yellow, yellow, purple, purple, black, black, black," Zhao Wuji said honestly. He didn't dare defy Han Yu, especially in the dangerous Star Dou Forest. If Han Yu had ill intentions, he wouldn't stand a chance.
Zhao Wuji's configuration was quite impressive, with three deep black ten-thousand-year rings. Once a ring exceeds ten thousand years, the boost it provides far surpasses that of any thousand-year ring.
"I'm slightly weaker," the Snake Granny admitted. "My spirit rings are yellow, yellow, purple, purple, purple, black." Realizing she might lose based on this comparison, she quickly added, "But my husband, Dragon Duke, is an eight-ring Soul Douluo. If you help us, the gratitude of the Dragon and Snake couple will be yours to claim!"
Her words were a clear attempt to win Han Yu over, emphasizing her husband's formidable strength as an eight-ring Soul Douluo.
Han Yu nodded to himself as if considering her words. Suddenly, a glow appeared in his hand, revealing a transparent card. Holding it up, he murmured, "So this is the Robbery Card. Shiny and pretty."
The Snake Granny tensed up at the sight, assuming Han Yu was about to attack her. Her serpent-head staff shimmered with the light of her spirit rings, ready to unleash a technique at a moment's notice.
What happened next stunned everyone. Instead of attacking the Snake Granny, Han Yu turned and flung the card at Zhao Wuji.
"Damn, I let my guard down!" Zhao Wuji exclaimed.
The card hit his chest with a thud. Though it didn't hurt, Zhao Wuji felt a chill run down his spine. The lack of pain was even more unsettling—what kind of ability didn't show its effects immediately? Surely, Han Yu wasn't just throwing cards for fun.
The card remained stuck to Zhao Wuji's chest for five or six seconds before flying back to Han Yu's hand. Now, the once-transparent card had something new written on it.
On closer inspection, it turned out to be a black spirit ring!
"Is that... my spirit ring?"
Zhao Wuji stared blankly at the ring within the card. He knew his spirit rings better than anyone else, and that was unmistakably his seventh ring!
Hurriedly, he activated the spirit rings within his body. Seven rings emerged around him, confirming their presence. Zhao Wuji let out a sigh of relief. For a moment, he thought Han Yu had used some strange ability to steal his spirit ring.
A ten-thousand-year spirit ring wasn't something one could afford to lose. Even hunting a ten-thousand-year spirit beast required extensive preparation to avoid losing one's life.
"Let's see if this card actually works."
With the spirit ring now in his possession, Han Yu took out the Clear Sky Hammer right before everyone's eyes.
Zhao Wuji's group was unfazed—they were already aware of Han Yu's Clear Sky Hammer. But for the Snake Granny, it was a completely different story.
As she laid eyes on the pitch-black, exquisitely crafted hammer, her expression turned grim. She knew exactly what it was—the legendary top-tier tool spirit of the assault system. Its unparalleled destructive power made it the nemesis of all assault-type spirit masters.
The future of anyone wielding this hammer is limitless, Snake Granny thought.
"This is impossible! Didn't the Clear Sky Clan retreat into isolation? How could someone with the Clear Sky Hammer still appear in the outside world?"
Her thoughts raced as she grappled with the implications. If Han Yu was from the Clear Sky Clan, she would have to tread carefully. Even though the clan had withdrawn from the world, their strength remained formidable. If they sent someone to hunt her down, she'd have no easy way out.
The Robbery Card touched the Clear Sky Hammer and dissolved into wisps of faint white light, carrying the ten-thousand-year spirit ring into the hammer. Within moments, the hammer began to emit a deep black glow. A small, dark ring materialized around it.
"It actually worked?"
Everyone except Han Yu's group was utterly dumbfounded—whether it was Snake Granny or Tang San and his companions. Their jaws practically hit the ground.
In their understanding, spirit rings could only be obtained by hunting spirit beasts or through beast sacrifices. The idea of transferring someone else's spirit ring to a weapon and fusing it was beyond comprehension.
As the Clear Sky Hammer glowed with the black light of the ten-thousand-year spirit ring, Han Yu willed the ring into his spirit. Once the light faded, the hammer's weight became noticeably heavier in his grip.
"Interesting. The weight has increased significantly."
Han Yu tested the hammer in his hand. Compared to its state without a spirit ring, the hammer's weight had surged dramatically. A single strike now could easily shatter several tons of solid rock.
"Alright, you can all come out now," Han Yu said calmly.
