Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Soaring Value
The Iron Monger, his armor disabled, was rendered powerless. Obadiah, defeated, reluctantly opened the suit to reveal his true self.
Glaring at Kyle with a mix of fear and defiance, he gritted his teeth, "Who are you? Did Tony Stark send you? How much did he pay you? I'll offer ten times that amount. Just let me go."
"It's not about money," Kyle shrugged.
"Then what do you want? Name it, as long as it's within my power, it's yours," Obadiah pleaded.
"Are you sure?" Kyle raised an eyebrow.
Hearing Kyle's ominous question, Obadiah clung to the faint hope, blurting out, "What do you want? Stark Industries' shares? I have 17% of Stark Industries' shares, I can give them all to you."
Kyle shook his head, replying calmly, "No... I want something else."
"What?"
Obadiah wondered desperately. Besides his stake in Stark Industries, he couldn't think of anything else of value.
"Your life."
Before Obadiah could react, Kyle swiftly drew a pistol and fired.
"Boom!"
Gunshot.
Obadiah - deceased.
Unexpectedly, Obadiah's demise yielded 20% of the summoning energy, a significant enhancement compared to Kyle's previous sources, such as a terrorist boss who had only provided 7%.
It seemed Obadiah had been involved in more unethical dealings than Kyle had realized.
At that moment, Tony Stark arrived in his Mark III suit.
Surprised to see Kyle, Tony exclaimed, "Kyle, how did you get here before me? Are you twins, or did you use your superpowers again?"
Kyle shrugged, giving a slight nod.
Tony, seeing Obadiah's lifeless body, felt conflicted. He didn't know how to confront the man he had once considered family, despite Obadiah's repeated attempts on his life.
"Tony."
Pepper, who had followed Tony, ran over and embraced him tightly.
Releasing Tony, Pepper turned to Kyle, grateful, "Thank you, Mr. Kyle. If it weren't for you, I might not have Tony with me now."
Tony was taken aback by Pepper's words, realizing anew the gravity of the situation.
"Kyle, thank you. I can't imagine losing Pepper," Tony said sincerely.
"By the way, didn't you mention needing my help with something? Just name it, if it's within my power."
Kyle glanced at Pepper, still visibly shaken, and the chaos around them. Now wasn't the time for business.
After a moment's thought, Kyle said, "Forget it for today. The commotion earlier was significant. You should handle that first, and I'll find you tomorrow."
Obadiah had even deployed missiles in downtown Los Angeles. The fallout was bound to attract widespread media attention.
Considering the situation, Tony nodded, "Alright, we'll talk tomorrow."
"Goodbye, see you tomorrow."
With that, Kyle disappeared.
Tony's eyes widened. After a moment, he muttered in a slightly envious tone, "Teleportation? No wonder he beat me here."
---
The next day, Kyle sat at his computer early in the morning and sold all his shares in Stark Industries.
Following Tony's announcement of shutting down Stark Industries' weapons division, the once formidable company plummeted again.
Its market value now stood at a mere $80 billion, evaporating $120 billion from its peak of $200 billion.
Kyle, however, profited handsomely from Stark Industries' downfall.
A staggering $3 billion.
After deducting the $700 million principal, Kyle netted $2.3 billion.
With this windfall, Kyle leveraged his financial acumen to turn $2.3 billion into $23 billion, reentering the U.S. stock market with Stark Industries as his target.
This time, he wasn't shorting the stock; he went long.
Kyle acquired a direct 15% stake in Stark Industries. His last $23 billion hadn't even been fully spent.
Stark Industries' shares comprised roughly 20% of the total outstanding shares in the U.S. market. Kyle's acquisition of 15% left only 5% available for trading.
Further acquisitions would leave no tradable shares. Without available stocks, any positive news for Stark Industries wouldn't drive its stock price up.
Yet, a 15% stake ensured Kyle became Stark Industries' second-largest shareholder.
As Stark Industries' stock rebounded, Kyle would ascend to the ranks of billionaires.
---
By the time Kyle met Tony, the latter was preparing for a press conference.
After the previous night's Stark Industries turmoil and Iron Man's visible presence in Los Angeles, Tony, as Stark Industries' president, needed to address the public.
Pepper adjusted Tony's suit and tie.
"Hey, Kyle... Did you see today's headlines? They're saying it was me battling that big guy last night. Clearly, that wasn't the case. How about a meal?" Tony asked.
"Tony!"
Pepper, feeling slightly indignant, interjected. From her perspective, Kyle had not only saved her life but Tony's on two occasions.
Seeing Pepper's reaction, Tony quickly added, "I'm just kidding, sweetheart."
He then winked at Kyle.
"For sure," Kyle smiled.
"Alright, let's get down to business. If there's anything I can do for you, just say the word," Tony said earnestly.
Kyle had saved him twice and Pepper once. While money wasn't an issue for Kyle, Tony felt compelled to offer his assistance. It wasn't enough to repay Kyle for saving his life multiple times, but it was a start.
Cutting to the chase, Kyle retrieved a box from his golden space, placing it before Tony as Pepper watched in surprise. Opening it, he revealed its contents.
"What's this?"
Tony examined the three cylindrical metal pieces in the box and inquired.
