Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Huge Disparity in Strength
The psychokinesis barrier instantly opened, creating a protective shield around Kyle, extending one meter from his body. To his surprise, the nail-like bullets managed to penetrate within half a meter before being halted by his psychokinesis.
Psychokinesis, a versatile ability, felt like an extension of Kyle's body. However, his psychokinesis wasn't on par with the likes of Tornado from One Punch Man, who could easily decimate a city. Kyle's maximum psychokinesis strength was about 500 tons, enabling him to handle one building at best.
Kyle had tested his powers extensively. The defensive barrier formed by his psychokinesis was as tough as a steel plate. However, if he attacked while defending, the barrier's strength diminished. The fact that these bullets could penetrate 50 centimeters of his psychokinesis barrier meant they could pierce through a steel plate of the same thickness.
Clearly, S.H.I.E.L.D had some formidable tech. Kyle quickly discarded his initial underestimation of the place. Yet, he remained unfazed. With his keen senses, he could foresee danger and had contingency plans ready if necessary.
Following the initial bullet volley, smoke bombs exploded around him. Maintaining his psychokinesis barrier, Kyle prevented the smoke from reaching him, unsure if it was toxic. While the smoke blocked his vision, Kyle knew the attackers aimed to obscure his sight to hinder his offensive capabilities.
The attackers, however, underestimated Kyle. Losing sight was a minor inconvenience. He closed his eyes and expanded his observation haki to its maximum range. Instantly, he sensed fifteen individuals approaching from three directions within a 500-meter radius.
"Playing cat and mouse, huh?" Kyle thought. "Let's see who's the cat."
Extending his psychokinesis, Kyle could control it precisely within a 500-meter radius. Beyond that, accuracy and strength declined, with his maximum range being three kilometers. But these attackers were well within his range.
Kyle's psychokinesis could easily determine the fate of the fifteen attackers. If it were someone like Phil Coulson, Kyle might consider sparing them. He wasn't bloodthirsty, targeting only enemies and villains. But he was confident these attackers were HYDRA.
To Kyle, HYDRA equaled evil. They were both his enemies and villains. He had no qualms about killing them. Activating his psychokinesis, he crushed the throats of fourteen attackers instantly. The energy progress bar in his summoning system increased by only 3%, indicating minimal sin in their deaths.
"HYDRA, can't you do more bad things?" Kyle muttered, dissatisfied. "Averaging only two human lives' worth of sin each. Pathetic."
He pulled the last attacker towards him with psychokinesis. "Where is Alexander Pierce?" Kyle demanded.
"Pooh!" The attacker spat at him, but Kyle blocked it with his barrier.
"No answer?" Kyle frowned. Deciding not to waste his resources on this one, he shattered the attacker's throat. To his surprise, the summoning energy soared by 15%.
"A big fish," Kyle thought, recognizing the attacker. "Crossbones, HYDRA's top enforcer within S.H.I.E.L.D."
With the smoke dissipating quickly, Kyle took out his compass and continued his search for Pierce.
…
Nick Fury had been watching the entire battle through surveillance. Witnessing Kyle's capabilities, Fury raised his danger level rating for Kyle by two notches. Several planned arrest operations were now void, and Kyle's personal information access was elevated from level 9 to level 10, restricting it to Fury alone. As for Pierce, Fury doubted he would survive the day.
Pierce, also watching through surveillance, felt no sadness for Crossbones' death. He regretted losing a useful tool but was more captivated by the power Kyle exhibited. If he could harness that power, even without replicating it, HYDRA's goals would be within reach.
