Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Thor and Magical Beast
Looking at the expo model in Kyle's hand, Tony leaned over and asked curiously, "Hey man, does this thing have something to do with the new element you mentioned?"
Ignoring Tony's question, Kyle placed the model on the table and instructed:
"J.A.R.V.I.S, scan this and create a digital wireframe model. I'll need a working projection."
"Understood, sir," J.A.R.V.I.S responded promptly.
A blue light swept over the model, and soon a detailed digital projection appeared.
"Scan complete, sir," J.A.R.V.I.S reported.
Tony stared at the wireframe model, his brow furrowed in thought.
Kyle highlighted the central pavilion and began, "Use this location as the nucleus—"
"Remove all the pathways," Tony interrupted, his focus intensifying.
He continued, "Remove the landscaping, the trees, the parking lots, the entrances, the exits... Strip it all down. Use the pavilion as a frame for neutrons and protons."
J.A.R.V.I.S executed Tony's commands, simplifying the model until a glowing blue atomic structure emerged.
Tony gazed at the projection, a complicated mix of emotions on his face. He muttered softly, "Twenty years since he's been gone... Still teaching me lessons."
"Sir, this element appears to be a suitable replacement for palladium. Unfortunately, there's currently no way to synthesize it," J.A.R.V.I.S observed.
"Is that so?" Tony murmured, but his spirits seemed lighter.
Seeing this, Kyle remarked, "Looks like you've found the solution to palladium poisoning. My work here is done. Bye."
Without giving Tony a chance to respond, Kyle vanished.
Tony, left staring at the projection, grumbled, "That guy didn't even wait for me to say thanks. Maybe he saw that too..." He shrugged and added, "Guess I'll take the hard road myself."
---
Meanwhile, Kyle's mood lifted as he left. Tony's palladium poisoning had sparked an idea. If Iron Man 2's events were underway, Thor's arrival from Thor wasn't far behind.
Thor, as an Asgardian and son of Odin, naturally wielded the power of thunder, aligning perfectly with the magical beast classification in certain mystical systems. This realization opened up an intriguing possibility.
"Thor's hair as a wand core... Stronger than Veela's hair. That could work," Kyle mused. This meant he didn't have to risk antagonizing the Ancient One to acquire magical materials.
However, the Thor storyline was short, and missing this window could delay plans until the events of the Battle of New York. To act, Kyle needed confirmation.
Searching through his belongings, Kyle found the business card Phil Coulson had given him and made the call.
Before Kyle could speak, Coulson's voice came through:
"Mr. Kyle, how can I help you?"
Kyle was momentarily surprised by how Coulson knew it was him, but quickly realized S.H.I.E.L.D. likely had his number on record.
"Agent Coulson, I have a question. Have you received any missions involving a hammer?" Kyle asked directly.
"A hammer?" Coulson echoed, confused.
"So, not yet," Kyle muttered. "If you do get assigned to such a mission, could you notify me immediately?"
"Mr. Kyle, as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, I can't disclose mission details to outsiders," Coulson replied apologetically.
"Don't worry. Your director will approve it," Kyle assured him.
After a brief pause, Coulson hesitantly asked, "Can you tell me more about this hammer?"
"It's a hammer of the gods. That's all for now, Agent Coulson. Talk later." Kyle hung up before Coulson could press further.
---
On the other side, Coulson, baffled, reported the conversation to Nick Fury.
"You're saying Kyle believes a god's hammer is coming, and I'll assign you to handle it?" Fury clarified.
"That's essentially what he implied," Coulson confirmed.
"Understood. If such a mission arises, you'll be informed. And you can share the details with him," Fury instructed before hanging up.
Coulson sighed at the abrupt end to the call. "A level 8 agent reduced to guarding a hammer... Ev
en if it's a god's hammer, it's still just a hammer," he muttered to himself.
