Marvel: In 1000 BCE in Ancient India

Chapter 3: 3. Crowning and Start of Conquest

A year after my return from gurukul, my father got bedridden by sickness. So, he decided to abdicate his throne to me after seeing my talent in this one year. So after selecting an auspicious day by priests I was made the king. My first decree as king was to shorten the caste boundaries in our state.

The caste boundaries were already very low in our kingdom in honour of our ancestor Radhey Vasusen Karna who himself belonged to the charioteer clan. My decree further decreased these caste boundaries.

Next trade and different arts were promoted and similiar things. But all things were not as rosy as believed. Soon we got the intel that our neighbouring kingdom and one of the superpowers of the subcontinent, Magadha is preparing for war with us.

Our enmity is very old, dating back to time of dwapar yug, the third age in the time of our ancestor Radhey Karna but this times Magadha seems hell bent on conquering us and send their whole might after us. Despite the odds we didn't bow down and decided to face them.

While our army prepared for them I talked with many birds around the palace and convinced them too spy on Magadha army for me.

Soon they returned and told me they were 10 days away from Anga and are coming with a big cavalry including a elephantry unit.

Soon a plan started forming iny head about how to weaken the morale of Magadha soldiers and how to counter them. So, I ordered my army commander to prepare our guerrilla unit who were specially trained in guerrilla warfare by morning.

Meanwhile I took flight towards their camp to analyse their army myself. I took a vantage point on a tree and using my metamorph powers turned myself invisible.

Their army was around 60,000 strong with 1,000 elephant mounted soldiers and 5,000 cavalry and the rest being infantry. While their army was well organised they were not very vigilant. I fact they were complacent and acted like their victory was all but assured.

While yes their army was huge, like 3 times our army of 20,000 but this complacency shoes that either they are being led by an arrogant commander or inexperienced commander or both.

I secretly talked with their horses and elephants. Elephants were easier to talk with as they followed their leader who was easy to locate and convince. With horses it was slightly difficult, some were quiet attached to their riders, but still I managed to convince them.

Next day, early morning I gave the signal by sending some rats around the path where elephants were walking they went on a rampage as agreed and seeing them the horses also went on a rampage. This caused a lot of chaos in the Magadha army and around 5,000 of their infantry soldiers and 1,000 cavalry soldiers were killed in the rampage that followed not to mention the loss of supplies and complete destruction of their cavalry and elephantry unit. Now they are only left with foot soldiers as the elephants and horses ran away in the forests after their mounts fell from them.

Soon after, I returned with my guerrilla unit of 2,000 soldiers. Using our knowledge of terrain we started eliminating all their scouts sent to bring back horses and elephants. At the same time I sentany poisonous animals and insects towards their main army to poison their supplies.

After their scouts didn't return the whole day the morale was down and it further plummeted when many of their soldiers died from poisoning at night. They have to burn the remaining supplies and wait for further supplies from Magadha. They have already lost 20% of their soldiers before even a single confrontation.

They got the new supplies by next day but this also delayed them. We took this opportunity to set up traps all over the forest with the help of tribals living in the forest. We also set up several points where we will attack them, cause as much damage as possible and retreat before they can mount and appropriate defence.

This continued till they crossed the forest and mountainous region of the kingdom. By that time there total loss was 24,000. Yes, they lost 40 % of their army without any serious confrontation. That's why the morale of the Magadha army was at an all time low but they still continued forward otherwise they will have to face certain death.

Soon after they reached the first fort on the border of Anga after crossing the forests. This the place where I have decided to crush the Magadha army. It lies on a tall mountain and is well fortified in all directions.

They tried many ways to reach the ramparts but ultimately failed. They couldn't afford a siege as we have already attacked their supply lines many times. On the seventh day they strength was just 20,000. And mine were 12,000. So, I signaled my army of 5,000 that I ordered to encircle the Magadha army and attack at their rear. We also sallied out and finally wiped out all of Magadha army. Anyone who didn't drop their weapon died.

But I didn't stop there, I took my army and marched in the Magadha territory, being reinforced by the army summoned from eastern border and my maternal uncle, the king of Southern Kosala.

We achieved steady victories in our campaign as we didn't have to face long seiges due to me spiling their food in granaries by using my zoopathy.

By the end of the year I have defeated the great Magadha empire and conquered it. I ended the whole royal family so that no rebellion emerged and married the daughter of the king, princess Durdhara, to strengthen my rule.

Soon I was crowned as Samrat as after conquering Magadha and my uncle agreeing to become a vassal state of Magadha I have enough region to be called Samrat. But I didn't crown Durdhara as Samragini. First this was a political marriage, second I was not sure of her loyalty, and last she doesn't have a strong character. Harsh maybe, but my Samragini will be someone who has a strong character and could stand her ground not some meek princess.
