Chapter 40: Cuban Missile Crisis (Edited)

A jovial atmosphere filled the room as everyone chatted and exchanged pleasantries. Just then, a portly man made his entrance, commanding attention with his presence. "Well, everyone!" he boomed. "I'm Supervisor Demonst, and it's time to get to work!"

He distributed copies of a document to Alex and his associates, a group of five. Supervisor Demonst leaned in and addressed the room with a stern expression, "Ladies and gentlemen, this is a critical mission, one that concerns the very survival of the world. We suspect that a group of mutants is plotting to initiate a nuclear war!"

He pressed his hands firmly on the desk, locking eyes with each member of the team. "Your task is to discover their vulnerabilities, to understand the reasons behind their mutations. Your mission is nothing short of saving the entire world!"

"We'll give it our all!" declared Charles, who always felt a deep sense of duty to protect the world. The others, however, appeared more intrigued by their unique companions than the world-saving mission.

"Thank you," Supervisor Demonst responded with a nod, though he could only see Charles's fervent determination. He turned and exited the office.

"Deploy nuclear missiles? Good gracious, who came up with that idea? Stop them, and stop them now!" Charles exclaimed, his surprise evident.

Raven couldn't help but let out a mischievous laugh. "Haha! Planting a nuclear bomb in Turkey is like poking Russia from behind. Russia is bound to go berserk!"

"In fact, Russia has already gone berserk!" Grete chimed in with a resigned sigh. "Word has it that Russia is debating the prospect of placing a nuclear bomb in Cuba!"

Alex, with a sly grin, made an explosive gesture with his hand. "Oh, that's quite entertaining! World peace!"

"Alex, let's stay on topic now," Jessica reprimanded with a playful punch. "These mutants are up to some antics. We need to locate and stop them," Grete emphasized. "Gentlemen, we know very little about mutants. That's why we need advice from you, the genetic experts!"

Charles, wearing a confident smile, rose to his feet and activated his psychic abilities. "Comments? No! In fact, there's a better way," he declared. "Only mutants can effectively counter other mutants."

"Uh?" Grete was initially taken aback, but then her shock turned into awe as she stared at Charles. "You... just... the voice in your head..."

"As you can see, I am also a Mutant!" Charles looked at Grete with a smile on his face.

"Charles, you must be crazy!" Raven shook his head helplessly, a blue light flashed across his body, turning his skin into its true blue appearance.

"Why did you expose us all of a sudden?" Emma complained, her body turned into a brilliant diamond, then returned to its original shape.

"Charles, if this is your choice, I will stand with you, my friend!" Alex smiled and stretched out his hand to grab a metal Falcon statue from Grete's table. It slowly floated in the air. Jessica smiled, and various energy balls appeared all over her body.

"Oh, dear!" Grete covered her mouth and was speechless for a long time. The revelation of the mutants' abilities shifted the tone of the conversation from geopolitical banter to a realization of the extraordinary powers held by those in the room. Grete found herself caught between disbelief and fascination as the mutants revealed their true selves.

The CIA responded swiftly upon learning that Charles and Alex were Mutants, assembling an emergency response team. In the face of the looming threat of nuclear war, the fact that the group consisted of Mutants seemed inconsequential. The CIA's strategy was clear: use Mutants to counter Mutants.

"Charles, I have confirmed that Colonel Henkley, the NATO frontline commander, is in contact with Mutants. Tonight, Colonel Henkley will meet with Mutants," Grete reported a few days later in her office, setting the stage for a critical mission.

"So… is it time to take action?" Alex stood up, a curious smile playing on his lips as he looked at Charles. "I'm very curious about these Mutants, and now I'll finally get to see them!"

Charles, reflecting on the newfound revelation of other Mutants, sighed, "Yeah, I always thought there were only a few of us Mutants, but I didn't expect there to be so many others."

The anticipation and curiosity were palpable, contemplating the abilities of these unknown Mutants and the potential threats they posed.

"An ability that is similar to teleportation, another ability to control airflow, and two others who haven't revealed themselves. You have to be careful and not underestimate them!" Grete reminded, emphasizing the need for caution.

"I'll bring an agent team to support you!" she added, reinforcing the seriousness of the mission.

As night fell and heavy rain swept over the New York harbor, a cruise ship approached the port. Charles, utilizing his psychic powers, sensed the presence of the Mutants they were seeking on board.

"I can feel it, it's them!" Charles pressed his temples, activating his psychic abilities.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn as Charles roared in pain, his face turning pale.

Alex rushed to his side, helping him up and expressing concern, "Charles, are you okay?"
