Chapter 5: Evolutionary
Luo Chen, who had been impatient for a long time, also sensed something irresistible in the air. After observing the U.S. military evacuating most of their personnel, he submerged and began to swim stealthily toward the island where the nuclear test had taken place. Though the 15-megaton explosion was beyond what his current form could withstand, he didn't need to endure it directly—he only had to wait for the blast to subside before making his move.
The roar of the detonation was the most terrifying sound Luo Chen had ever experienced. The shockwave traveled through the sea like a violent ripple, shaking him to his core. As the mushroom cloud rose into the sky, Luo Chen surfaced, mesmerized by the apocalyptic sight.
The ultimate weapon of mankind had unleashed its fury.
When the shockwave hit the sea, it created massive walls of water, rolling and crashing with immense force. Luo Chen dove deep, his body rocked by the turbulent undercurrents. Even submerged, the vibrations reverberated around him, shaking the seabed itself. After ten minutes, the chaos began to subside.
Luo Chen resurfaced, inhaling the rich radiation that now filled the air. His body, charged with G cells, absorbed the energy voraciously. Changes rippled through him—his form grew larger and more imposing.
Twenty meters… twenty-five meters… thirty meters!
『Activate a new ability: Atomic Breath!』
Finally, Luo Chen had unlocked Godzilla's signature power. A surge of heat and energy coiled within him, waiting to be unleashed. The realization dawned on him—his transformation into Godzilla was no longer a theory but a fact.
He wasn't surprised. From the beginning, Luo Chen had suspected the truth. Godzilla, the apex predator born of radiation, was the only logical explanation for his evolution. Still, the confirmation brought a sense of satisfaction. As Godzilla, he was destined to become an unstoppable force—a creature that no weapon could defeat at his peak.
But evolution demanded sustenance, and this irradiated island was the perfect feeding ground. For now, Luo Chen had no intention of leaving. The ocean's depths provided some radiation, but the island promised far more. For the first time, he prepared to emerge fully onto land.
The water broke with a thunderous splash as Luo Chen's massive form rose from the sea. Heavy, clawed feet left deep impressions in the sand, each step shaking the beach. His long, powerful tail dragged behind him, carving grooves in the ground. The act of standing upright felt exhilarating, his newfound height granting him a commanding view of the world.
From his vantage point, the retreating U.S. warships appeared laughably small. Luo Chen felt a surge of primal energy, like a boiler ready to explode. Unable to contain himself, he let out a deafening roar that echoed across the ocean.
"ROAR!!"
The sound tore through the atmosphere, rattling the island. Smoke still lingered from the hydrogen bomb explosion, and his roar intensified its dispersal. The ground quaked with each of his steps as he moved inland, drawn toward the epicenter of the blast. The temperature rose as he approached, and the heat burned at his feet. But the pain was fleeting.
『Activate a new ability: Heat-Resistant Skin!』
With this adaptation, the burning subsided, replaced by a comforting warmth. Luo Chen marveled at his resilience. The ground here was barren, the radiation so intense that no living creature could survive. Yet for him, it was paradise—a sanctuary where he could rest and absorb.
Luo Chen settled in the heart of the blast zone, letting the radiation soak into his body. As the G cells worked tirelessly, his form grew larger and stronger. He drifted into a deep, contented sleep, his body instinctively continuing its evolution.
When Luo Chen awoke, he immediately felt the difference. His size had increased dramatically, and his hunger drove him back to the ocean in search of sustenance. The radiation in the area had diminished significantly—he had absorbed most of it during his rest.
Standing at the water's edge, Luo Chen caught his reflection. The transformation was astonishing. His obsidian-black skin had hardened, taking on an almost metallic sheen. His dorsal fins had grown larger and sharper, glowing faintly with residual energy. His legs, once adapted for swimming, had fully transitioned into powerful, land-based limbs akin to those of a Tyrannosaurus rex. His tail, long and flexible, served as a counterbalance, giving him incredible stability.
『Height: 50 meters. Length: 120 meters.』
His new form was undeniably fearsome—a testament to his rapid evolution. However, the transformation wasn't without drawbacks. His body, adapted to dissipate heat in the water, struggled with prolonged activity on land. The ocean remained his sanctuary, a place to cool down and recover.
