Chapter 62- Enquiring!
Elven Realm is the most peaceful and suitable place to start a life, in Kei's perception.
The being who reigns supremacy in their mana controls and only are second to the Draconic beasts if only measured on their mana reserve.
To compensate for their weak physicality, Elves strengthen their affinity with ranged weapons and train in martial arts so if the primary fails, the secondary could at least give them another shot to remain alive.
Apart from their strong will to survive in this unbalanced power division of realms, Elves are also known for their wits which was the reason why every prominent organization has these elongated-eared creatures as their employee.
Even some major organizations including Vanguard back in the human world have elves appointed in disguise for finance-related subjects. Not to talk about the embassy which only Elves and humans share.
Because their facial features are so delicate and fair regardless of gender, every now and then elves get abducted by the residents of the upper realm to satiate their lust.
Mostly beast men remain active at times during their mating period.
Kei feels sympathy for elves that's why he never harmed elves in the past, as much as he felt like venting his anger at times during his adolescence.
It was true that he had killed these beings before but those were only the black marketers and smugglers who sold their own people to gain a few chunks.
He has been visiting the Elven realm every now and then to chill around and do nothing. Just surrounded by mother nature, he spends his holidays in the most blissful manner.
But this time Kei had a different motive for infiltrating the kingdom which lies in the center of one of the four major continents.
Valley of Wonders.
Vinwuala.
________…
"Argh! This tastes awful… "
With a grumble, Kei frowned as he stared at the mug from which he sipped some ale just now and acted to be quite dissatisfied with its taste.
Well, it indeed was bad if compared to what he has been drinking in this small motel bar.
There were people around the eatery but no one paid attention to his complaint except for the man sitting beside Kei.
"Well, can we complain? It's best if you consider the lack of trade these days."
The refined manner of talking despite being seven jugs down came from the elf beside Kei who was weighing with tired baggy eyes and unattended facial hairs.
The round glasses represented that the elf had already aged a lot to be drinking at such a place and not to talk about his attire told that the man was no commoner.
But since there was a lack of bars in the town, people didn't really bother who dined with them.
Elves generally does not play nobility or commenters games like the other realms and keep things simple and easygoing.
"Doctor Kaizer. How have you been?"
Kei turned himself toward the man since as an adventurer in this world, he has come across the man some time, enough to be recognized.
"Alvin was it? Are you returning from a mission, young man?"
"Yeah. These days there doesn't pass a day without any emergency quests pinned on the notice."
Kei sighed in exasperation even though it's been a while since he has gone hunting like an average hunter. He killed some beast in the morning after arrival and submitted to the guild and gathered some information about current affairs.
The old man also sighed as well since he was aware of the reason why the management has been shaken for some times. The defense is failing constantly due to the lack of funds and proper maintenance of town boundaries.
Kei, upon finding the old man deep in thought, raised the query for which he planned this whole evening after he perfectly tuned his tone into a slightly annoyed one.
"Hey, doctor. You are visiting the town leader often, right? What's her problem? Why is she not responding to citizens? You know, every day I fear when I leave for a mission and a wild beast will attack my home and kill my little sister. It's so… frightening…!"
With moisture filling his eyes, Kei gulped down the remaining drink in order to show how scared and grieved he was about this whole situation.
The old man could understand how this lowly hunter must be feeling. Unlike the higher-ups who sleep under the protection of guards, commoners have to be vigilant all the time.
"I understand your pain, young man. It's just that, after losing her only heir and the essence of her late husband, Madame Yulino has fallen into depression and doesn't interact with people much. I am just allowed to check on her health every fifth day…."
As the old man continued, Kei glanced at the bartender and signaled for another serving for the two of them.
After a brief pause, Kaizer took out his glass with a sigh as he continued.
"I don't know how long it will drag but I hope one-day peace might reopen the door for us."
"I hope so as well, Doctor."
With a slightly better expression, Kei offered the old man another mug which the bartender put on the counter.
Doctor Kaizer took the mug as they cheered for a better future.
___..
(After some hours.)
"Doctor? Doctor Kaizer?"
As Kei roughly shook the man, there returned nothing but just grunts of complaints as the old man laid his head on the bar counter and eyes closed in deep slumber.
Ensuring that the drug worked properly and the doctor was not going to wake up anytime soon, a devilish smile formed on Kei's lips as he-
"Hey, stop those misleading lines, you butthead author!"
