Monster Taming Broadcast

Chapter 6

The assistant sent me mint chocolate bread.

It was a polarizing food choice.

【001】─You don’t hate mint chocolate, do you?

“I don’t really like it, but I don’t hate it either.”

【001】─Haha, thank goodness.

Truth is, I used to be quite a picky eater.

I wouldn’t even touch foods I disliked, like mint chocolate.

But that’s not the case anymore.

I’ve learned the value of food.

I almost starved when I fell into this other world.

So now, I’ve adopted a no-picky-eating policy.

Even if it’s mint chocolate bread, I had no aversion to it.

‘If I were back on Earth where food is abundant, I wouldn’t have to eat foods I don’t like… but here, it’s a precious food that can’t be found easily.’

I wouldn’t mind even if it was curry that tasted like poop instead of mint chocolate.

As long as I can eat it without any issues, I welcomed anything.

“Thanks. I’ll enjoy it.”

【001】─Okay, enjoy!

I tore the bread into two pieces.

Then, I held one piece out to the Dog Spider.

You should share even a single bean.

No matter how hungry I was, I couldn’t eat it all by myself.

[Siiiii!]

As if waiting for this moment, the Dog Spider buried its face in the bread and started chomping away.

“Is it good?”

[Sii!]

Seems like it suits its taste.

Looks like it’s a mint chocolate fan.

【001】─Haha, cute for a spider. Eat a lot and grow strong!

I took a bite of the mint chocolate bread.

The taste was still quite lackluster.

But I chewed it down, filled with gratitude.

*

After the meal.

I decided to check the Dog Spider’s abilities.

“Use all the abilities you have. Just don’t cause harm to me.”

[Sii!]

I couldn’t understand what it was saying.

But it understood my command.

The Dog Spider stared at a rock with a proud expression.

[Siiiiiiii!!!]

The Dog Spider unleashed a thick thread.

It seemed like its ability was silk production.

The thread hit the rock’s surface perfectly.

One hit, and there was absolutely no destructive power.

Not even a small scratch appeared on the rock.

Even if it evolved into an adult.

I guessed the destructive power wouldn’t improve and would likely stay the same.

According to my instincts, its danger level was around B-rank.

Just the same level as the adult I saw earlier.

【001】─Our little spider is really weak, huh? It was called a B-rank monster, right? Is B-rank weak?

“B-rank isn’t a low level. It’s definitely a boss-level threat.”

【001】─?? B-rank is boss-level?

“Yeah. It’s strong enough that a top-level adventurer or captain of a knight brigade wouldn’t be able to subjugate it.”

In the past, I could have killed it with just a finger.

But I considered adding that, then dropped the thought.

With my powers sealed, it’s just a shadow of past glory.

It’d just sound like bragging now.

【001】─How strong are top-level adventurers or knights? It’s hard to gauge just by saying B-rank. I’ve never been to this other world.

“Um. How can I explain this?”

After a moment of thought, I picked up a stone.

Squatting down, I started writing letters on the ground.

“Excluding SSS and SS ranks…”

====================

●S-Class

○Demon King / Demon Lord, etc.

○Hero / Sage, etc.

●A-Class

○Named boss-level monsters, etc.

○Hero / Top-level adventurer, etc.

●B-Class

○Boss-level monsters / Named monsters, etc.

○Captain of a knight brigade / Top-level adventurer, etc.

●C-Class

○Senior knight / Mid-tier adventurer (veteran), etc.

●D-Class

○Mid-tier knight to low-tier knight / Mid-tier adventurer, etc.

●E-Class

○Regular Goblins, etc.

○Low-tier adventurer / Strong ordinary person

●F-Class

○Regular Slimes, etc.

○Ordinary person

※Adventurers are kind of like freelancers.

※Knights / Heroes / Demon Kings are affiliated with a nation.

※I didn’t write about mages because they’re a hassle.

※Just think of a hero-level mage as a sage.

====================

“Here, the D-Class level is superhuman, so they can get shot and still be fine.”

【001】─Whoa? So people in this other world are powerful…

“And C-Class is like gathering 100 D-Class together.”

【001】─Oh my gosh. So B-Class is like gathering 100 C-Class?

“No. The gap between D-Class and C-Class is smaller than the gap between C-Class and B-Class. B-Class is the realm of talent that can’t be reached just by effort. If I had to compare, you’d need about five hundred C-Class to even scratch a B-Class.”

【001】─Wow. So to take down a boss monster, near a thousand knights would need to participate.

“Maybe? Anyway, this should give you a rough idea of how strong B-rank is.”

【001】─Okay, so B-rank is incredibly high. At first, I thought it was low… Our little spider doesn’t look like it, but it’s actually amazing.
【001】─But hey, Kang Geon, what rank were you?

“Me? SSS-Class.”

【001】─Stop joking around. ㅡㅡ

“Believe it or not, I don’t care.”

【001】─Not believing it.

After kindly finishing my explanation.

I stood up and moved on.

I stopped in front of the rock and studied the silk that the Dog Spider had emitted.

It was too early to be disappointed.

B-rank wasn’t a low danger level.

There had to be some special capability in this silk.

‘Given that the rock is unscathed, it probably isn’t something acidic or anything…’

I carefully touched my hand against the silk.

At that moment.

My arm went limp and fell.

“…My arm has no strength at all.”

【001】─Uh-oh?

[Sii?!]

The Dog Spider rushed towards me, startled.

[Sii, sii…]

It flattened itself on the ground.

Restlessly rubbing its head against the ground as if to apologize.

Why is it acting like that?

As I pondered this, strength returned to my sagging arm.

“What the… Did you deactivate your ability?”

[Sii.]

The Dog Spider nodded.

I think I got the gist of what its ability is.

“Seems like the Dog Spider’s silk has the power to incapacitate.”

【001】─Is it a good ability?

“It’s not bad, but it’s hard to judge yet.”

The Dog Spider’s ability was incapacitation.

The true value of this ability was still uncertain.

If it only worked on weaker opponents, it would be average. If it worked on monsters of the same rank, it would be outstanding. If it even worked on stronger opponents, then it’d be considered broken.

“Still, I got lucky. The first monster I tamed is one that fits me perfectly.”

Abilities like incapacitation are rare for a ‘supported one.’

Especially since my taming ability requires me to be face-to-face with the monster for a period.

【001】─Why does it fit you?

“Because my current ability is a Taming Ability. To put it simply, it’s like being a monster tamer.”

【001】─So that’s why that spider follows you so well. It sees you as a parent since you’re the first person it ever met after it was born.
【001】─But you could just beat it until it’s dead and tame it, right?

It’s possible to make someone go into a near-death state and then tame them like a ‘Ruler,’ but generally, it’s more efficient to tame when they’re in decent form. If a monster is on the brink of death, then I’d have to heal them afterward, which would be a burden.

I expect that carrying around near-death monsters wouldn’t be useful, so the ‘Ruler’ probably has a healing ability to recover monsters they dominate in a moment.

I don’t have that kind of ability.

So, I needed to tame the monsters without injuring them as much as possible.

Until I tame a monster with healing abilities.

After explaining that, the assistant immediately understood.

【001】─Now that you mention it, it makes sense. You’re surprisingly smart?
【001】─But what’s ‘Ruler’ again?

It was a bit annoying, but I explained everything the assistant was curious about.

*

I received additional support from the assistant.

A flashlight and batteries.

An analog clock.

A notebook and a pen.

For medical supplies, I only got a bandage for now.

And if possible, I asked for artistic tools like brushes or paints.

【001】─Okay, I have plenty of art supplies at home. But first, I’ll send water.
【001】─Wait, what? It costs 30 coins just to send 300ml of water? That’s way too expensive.

Even I thought that was too pricey.

I should try to be self-sufficient with water and food.

If it’s not careful, the assistant could go bankrupt.

Not that they’d continue supporting me until bankruptcy, though.

“I’ll cover the water fees.”

【001】─No way. Since I decided to support you, I’ll cover everything. I’m sending 50ml portions.

That made me feel too guilty to ask for coins.

I mean, coins might not be useful right now, but someday I’ll find a use for them, so it’s good to stockpile.

‘If I ask for coins now, that’d be shameless, so I’ll just plan to refill with my own money later.’

I have some money saved up back on Earth, so I can use that to recharge.

I already thought of how to use my money.

【001】─Here’s a water bottle!

The assistant sent an empty water bottle.

Then.

【001】─Here’s the water!

They sent a paper cup with a small amount of water.

Ten times in a row.

The amount of water in each cup seemed to be 50ml.

So, that’s a total of 500ml of water.

The fee was 50 coins.

That means the water alone cost 500,000 won in cash.

“…Sorry. I’m making you spend too much money.”

As I transferred the water from the paper cup to the water bottle, I spoke sincerely.

I truly felt sorry.

【001】─Don’t worry about it.

This person, what are they really getting out of helping me this much?

Even for a close friend, spending over 500,000 won isn’t something trivial, right?

I was grateful but still puzzled.

【001】─Now, here’s the art set! I packed it all in a box and sent it in one go!

The final support items arrived.

Inside the box were various art supplies.

【001】─Hope you use them well.

“Thanks. But why didn’t you ask why I wanted the art supplies?”

【001】─Didn’t you want them to draw? You like drawing, and you said it calms your mind.

“I did enjoy it, not currently. The way you said it in the past tense, seems you haven’t had contact with me recently.”

【001】─Hey, don’t try to figure me out.

After all, this info doesn’t help me guess who they are.

Many people know what my hobby is.

Whenever asked about my hobbies, I always answered that I love drawing.

I often sketched in my notebook whenever I had free time.

And the fact that drawing calms my mind…

I can’t even remember if I ever told anyone.

It didn’t ring any bells at all.

“Not trying to figure it out, but why are you hiding your identity?”

【001】─My own choice.

I’m curious about the assistant’s identity, but I also wondered why they choose to remain anonymous.

Why act that way without overstepping boundaries or attacking my character?

【001】─If you keep trying to find out who I am, I’m gonna run away. ㅡㅡ

“I really don’t care enough to find out. I’m not all that curious.”

I pretended to not be interested.

If they felt burdened and ran away, that would only hurt me.

I ended the conversation with the assistant and opened my notebook.

To calm my mind while drawing.

“Dog Spider, can you come over here for a sec?”

[Sii!]

The Dog Spider quickly dashed over to me and stopped.

“Good. Just stay there until I say you can move.”

[Sii!]

The model for today’s drawing was none other than the Dog Spider.

Not just it.

I planned to capture every monster I encounter in the labyrinth in drawings.

By documenting their appearance, abilities, habits, and weaknesses, I could handle encounters with the same types of monsters much more effectively in the future.

In other words, it was work to create a Monster Index.

‘Calm my mind, document monster info, two birds with one stone.’

I began to slowly transfer the Dog Spider’s appearance onto my notebook.
