Mushoku Tensei: The Fool Magician

Chapter 20: MT - 20 Saint Magic

"Now, it's your turn, Roy." Roxy said with a gentle smile, gazing down at the boy who stood a full head shorter than her.

Roy was silent for a moment before speaking. "If I say I can't do it… would you stay?"

Mastering this spell would mark the end of Roxy's time here.

Though he wouldn't admit it easily, the thought of her leaving left a bitter taste in Roy's heart. There were few people he could call his own in this world. Her absence would only deepen his solitude.

Sure, she had her quirks—kicking him in her sleep, boasting about her abilities, and being far from perfect.

But he liked the way her hair shimmered in the light, the subtle fragrance that clung to her, and the softness of her hand in his.

To let her go? It felt... wrong.

Roxy blinked, momentarily surprised, before her lips curved into a soft smile.

Her smile was like the spring breeze of April, brushing gently against his face.

She reached out, lightly tapping his forehead. "Of course not." She said, her voice tender yet firm. "Traveling is how we grow stronger. You know that, Roy. In this world, strength is the only guarantee of survival. I'm not a genius like you. I'm just an ordinary person trying to find my way. I can't afford to depend on you forever, can I?"

Roy exhaled deeply, saying nothing more.

Rudeus, standing nearby, blinked in surprise as he observed Roxy. The soft expression on her face—the warmth in her smile—was unlike anything he had seen from her before.

Roxy wasn't emotionless, but her smiles were rare, fleeting at best.

Yet now, she was smiling in a way that seemed so... gentle, so intimate.

Listening to their exchange, Rudeus couldn't help but fall silent.

There's a story here. One he didn't know but could sense.

He sighed inwardly. I won't pry.

Still, as Roy's younger brother, wasn't it his duty to show some concern?

Once Roxy leaves, Roy's bound to feel down.

Maybe I should lend him my shoulder for a while. Let him lean on me.

Not out of pity or anything weird, and certainly not to settle any old scores. This is family, after all. Comforting each other is what we do.

Roy, oblivious to Rudeus's wandering thoughts, retrieved the staff Roxy had given them as a parting gift. A wand was a customary gift from a teacher to their students—a simple, beginner's tool meant to ease the transition into serious magic.

The wand was modest, about a foot and a half long, made from unremarkable wood with a red magic stone embedded at its tip.

He exhaled slowly, steadying himself.

Roy's expression grew solemn, his focus razor-sharp. Magic surged from within him, spreading through his veins to every corner of his body.

Dark, turbulent mana swirled around him, a storm barely held in check. He gripped the wand in his right hand, channeling the overwhelming energy into it.

"O Great Spirit of Water..."

Roy began, his voice calm yet commanding.

The words, though softly spoken, carried a weight that made them impossible to ignore. At his call, the scattered clouds above began to converge, darkening the sky until it was shrouded in a heavy gloom.

Rudeus, watching from a distance, whistled low under his breath. "Wow…"

Even Roxy seemed taken aback. Her lips tightened into a bittersweet smile as her eyes lingered on the boy who now commanded the storm like a sovereign ruler.

The wind howled around Roy, tugging at his golden hair, which danced wildly in the tempest. His fiery golden eyes betrayed no emotion—only a calm, almost chilling resolve.

The tempest raged at his side, loyal as a knight to its king. With every motion of his wand, the storm grew fiercer, and the elemental forces of wind gathered eagerly around him.

Roy's voice cut through the chaos, clear and resonant. Despite the roaring winds, his words reached every corner of the plains.

Authority. Dignity.

Those were the words that flashed through Roxy's mind as she stared at the boy before her.

"O Child of the Thunder Emperor soaring high."

"Grant my wish."

"Unleash your furious blessing."

The red magic stone at the tip of the wand began to glow with an intense brilliance. As Roy swung the wand once more, its crimson light grew ever more radiant, spilling into the air like a torrent. The atmosphere groaned under the strain, and the violent winds screamed across the landscape, tearing at everything in their path.

"Show your overwhelming power to the small and insignificant."

"O Hammer of the Gods, strike the anvil and lay bare your awe-inspiring terror." Let the floodwaters drown the earth."

"Let the floodwaters drown the earth."

"O torrential rain..."

When Roy chanted the final words, the skies fully darkened, casting the world in a deep, oppressive shadow. The winds howled with wild fury, snapping trees in the distance as if they were mere twigs. The storm lashed at Roy's face, but instead of retreating, he felt an unparalleled exhilaration—a sense of godlike supremacy coursing through him.

Boundless, overwhelming mana surged from within him, flowing recklessly into the wand. The magic stone at its tip, though crafted for power, began to crack under the immense strain. It was a sign—a warning—that it could no longer contain the raw energy Roy was channeling.

The world seemed to collapse into chaos. The heavens dimmed as if the sun and moon had vanished, and in that moment, Roy became the sovereign of this realm.

The first drops of rain began to fall, tiny at first, but quickly multiplying. Within moments, the skies unleashed a torrential downpour. Sheets of rain, carried by the relentless wind, battered the earth. The sound of the storm drowned out all else, leaving only the symphony of howling winds and pounding rain.

"Cleanse, surge, and sweep away all in your path."

"Cumulonimbus!"

The red gem atop the wand burned like blood and shone like the stars, its crimson light illuminating the entire forest.

Then, with a sharp crack, the magic stone shattered. Fragments of the gem scattered, glinting like tiny crystals as they fell to the ground.

The spell was complete.

But could this even be called a Saint Water Magic anymore?

Mountains seemed to groan in despair, the forest trembled under the storm's wrath, and the rain cascaded down in unrelenting torrents. Massive bolts of lightning tore through the sky, their blinding arcs weaving a tapestry of destruction across the heavens.

In an instant—less than a heartbeat—the deluge turned catastrophic. The rain poured like a divine flood, the winds raged like cyclones, and the forest was reduced to chaos. Mud and debris exploded from the ground, and anything that stood in the storm's path was utterly annihilated.

Lightning struck with terrifying precision, obliterating all it touched. Trees turned to charred husks, mountains crumbled into dust, and the earth itself was stripped bare.

It was as if the world was ending.

The storm raged for what felt like an eternity. Thunder roared, and lightning continued to strike, carving scars into the land. When the winds finally ceased their rampage, only a soft drizzle remained. The oppressive clouds began to part, revealing a devastated landscape.

Before Roy lay a barren wasteland. The ground was scorched and riddled with craters. Trees had vanished, reduced to ash. Rocks had been pulverized into fine powder. What once stood as a vibrant forest was now an empty, lifeless plain.

Every trace of life and form had been wiped out, leaving nothing but a raw, flattened expanse of earth.

The trees had become charcoal. The mountains had crumbled into dust. The soil was churned into chaos, only to vanish entirely under the fury of the storm.

"This level of power…" Roxy muttered under her breath, her voice trembling. "It could only be… King-level magic."

She had no words left to describe Roy's feat. It was something far beyond her comprehension.
