Chapter 9: Killing a Special Jonin (Part 1)
Under the cover of night, the Hyuga Clan ninjas infiltrated the Uchiha Clan's compound, leaping across the rooftops. From a distance, they could see a large group of people gathered in front of the main hall.
"What's going on? Could the information have leaked? Are they setting a trap for us?" said Hyuga Kouten, one of the two special Jonin who had come on this mission.
Upon hearing his words, the other Hyuga ninjas hesitated for a moment, clearly concerned. If the Uchiha Clan had learned of their plans, it would be nearly impossible to leave alive, given the strength of their enemies.
"Calm down. As ninjas, we must remain calm at all times. Look carefully at those gathered; most of them are Uchiha children. They can't possibly be planning to ambush us, unless the Uchiha are mad," said the team leader, the only Jonin among them, in a calm tone.
The Hyuga ninjas all took a closer look, and indeed, they saw that the figures standing in front of the hall were mostly children, which put their minds at ease.
Hyuga Kouten frowned again, still feeling uneasy. "But there's something strange about this. What if the Uchiha Clan is using these children as bait to lure us into a trap and surround us?"
Another special Jonin from the Hyuga Clan scoffed and responded sarcastically, "Stop joking. We saw with our own eyes that their Elder and a large group of guard ninjas left the compound. The only ones left are these kids. There's no way they have enough strength to set an ambush for us. If you're scared, just say so. I'll allow you to tremble behind me, like usual."
"Enough!" The Hyuga Jonin snapped, preventing further argument. "We can't let internal disputes happen right now."
"Whatever the situation, since we're here, let's check it out. This is a rare opportunity. If we succeed, our family will owe us a great debt."
"Yes, sir!" With their leader's order, the team moved quickly toward the hall.
"They're fast!"
Uchiha Gen took a deep breath, two kunai already in his hands. Originally, Uchiha Madara had intended to give him a katana, but Gen refused, saying he wasn't accustomed to it, so Madara had let him be.
The thirteen Hyuga ninjas landed on the rooftop of the hall. The lead Jonin coldly looked at the people below and asked, "What are you doing here?"
Uchiha Madara smirked and became even more excited, "Of course, we're waiting for you!"
The Hyuga Jonin's eyes narrowed slightly. "So, you know about our plan for tonight?"
Madara grew impatient and unsheathed his katana, pointing it directly at the Jonin's face. "You ask too many questions. Just know this—you're not only going to die tonight, but you'll also become a stepping stone for my rise to fame."
Gen, standing to the side, couldn't help but comment with sarcasm, "I really don't want to criticize, but this whole 'edgy' dialogue is making me uncomfortable." He glanced at both of them, eyes like those of someone observing a couple of monkeys. Neither was aware of his disdain, and they were clearly enjoying the moment.
"Die here? You, just you?" The Hyuga Jonin scoffed, finding the idea laughable. "An eight-year-old Uchiha, saying he'll kill me? Ridiculous."
"Enough talking. Gen, I'm going in. You take care of the rest." Madara crouched slightly, and in an instant, he turned into a black shadow and charged toward the Jonin, his katana flashing coldly as he slashed downward.
"Fast!" Both the Hyuga Jonin and Uchiha Gen thought simultaneously.
However, the Hyuga Jonin was a seasoned warrior. He sidestepped effortlessly and, with a swift movement, drew his long blade, counterattacking with incredible speed.
Madara's eyes sharpened, and while still in midair, he spun with almost impossible precision, managing to block the attack.
Clang!
The sound of their blades clashing echoed. Madara grunted as he was sent flying back, though he had managed to block the strike, he still took a hit from the Jonin's kick.
"Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!" In midair, Madara quickly formed hand seals, spitting out a massive fireball to block the Jonin's pursuit.
The exchange had occurred in the blink of an eye. From below, Gen watched closely, silently calculating. "His speed is twice as fast as when we sparred, and he formed the seals a third faster. He hasn't even used his full strength yet. He wasn't lying—he really did hold back during our practice."
The clash between Madara and the Jonin had ignited the battle. The two combatants' actions were so fast that neither side could react immediately. It wasn't until now that both sides finally realized what was happening and rushed toward each other.
Uchiha Jizai, the last remaining special Jonin of the Uchiha Clan, immediately engaged in combat with another Hyuga special Jonin. The two clashed fiercely, swords and ninjutsu flying, and no one dared to get too close to their battle.
Hyuga Kouten, meanwhile, was sneering. He had already determined there were no Uchiha elites lying in wait nearby—just these kids. It would be easy to slaughter them. He was already fantasizing about what kind of reward his clan would give him once he completed this mission. Maybe they would teach him stronger jutsu and promote him to Jonin.
Just as he was lost in his thoughts, a figure suddenly appeared in front of him—one of the Uchiha children, who stared at him with an air of arrogance.
"I say, how about we negotiate?" Uchiha Gen spoke calmly to Hyuga Kouten.
"Is this kid insane?" Kouten thought, his mind racing.
"You should just commit seppuku. That way, you'll save yourself some pain, and I'll save time. It's a win-win," Gen said seriously.
"You little brat, you're looking for death," Kouten growled, feeling insulted. He drew his long blade and thrust it at Gen's chest.
The strike was infused with his fury, faster than lightning. Hyuga Kouten thought this was the pinnacle of his swordsmanship. At such a close distance, even a Jonin would struggle to dodge it.
Indeed, the sword pierced Gen's chest without resistance. Kouten saw the look of shock on Gen's face, and it was incredibly satisfying.
But Gen quickly wiped the surprise from his face, and with a mocking smile, he said, "I was lying."
"What?"
Before Kouten could comprehend what was happening, Gen's body suddenly shifted, and an eerie cawing noise filled the air. "Caw, caw, caw…" Gen's body transformed into a flock of crows that flew in all directions before reassembling a short distance away, now fully formed again.
"What kind of jutsu is this?"
In the warring states period, most jutsu were straightforward, direct attacks meant to kill. Hyuga Kouten had never seen this kind of jutsu before—it seemed like something that wouldn't appear for another hundred years. His mind raced with confusion and suspicion.
