Naruto: Starting with Snatching the Mangekyō Sharingan

Chapter 110: Chapter 110: Confrontation

In the orphanage's meeting room, Danzo and Yakushi Nono sat facing each other.

Calmly, Nono asked, "Danzo-sama, what brings you to the orphanage today?"

She had already guessed part of his intent. For now, her goal was to stall for time, hoping the Uchiha Clan would arrive. At this stage, she could only place her faith in them.

Danzo, unsurprised by her question, replied coolly, "Konoha needs your strength, Nun. Iwagakure is becoming restless, and our infiltration efforts on their front are lacking. We need our ace from Root—you—to gather intelligence for the village."

"I'm sorry," Nono said, shaking her head with an apologetic smile.

"Danzo-sama, I've already left Root. I'm no longer a ninja, merely an ordinary Konoha citizen. You'll have to find someone else."

"Nono!" Danzo's expression darkened. "Do you really think having the Uchiha Clan backing you makes you untouchable? You'd best consider the consequences of refusing me. Do you honestly believe the Uchiha can stand against Konoha? Don't forget, I represent the village!"

"No, I don't think that at all," Nono responded, her tone unwavering. "I am no longer a ninja. My only wish now is to manage this orphanage and ensure the children grow up safely. Please, Danzo-sama, don't push me."

Danzo narrowed his eyes and said in a low voice, "It seems the Uchiha have filled your head with unrealistic fantasies."

At that moment, Aburame Ryouma, wearing his signature sunglasses, scanned the room and remarked, "Nono-san, it seems the Uchiha are paying you well. You've even managed to redecorate the orphanage."

"What a pity it would be if such a lavish building were to catch fire," Ryouma added, his tone deliberate. "And if children were injured… well, that would be truly unfortunate."

"Safety is indeed critical," Orochimaru chimed in, his voice dripping with dark amusement. "Not just fire hazards but personal security as well. Lately, people in the village have been mysteriously disappearing. You should take care, Nono-san, to keep a close eye on the children here."

Nono's expression turned cold at their veiled threats.

"You go too far!" she snapped.

Danzo propped his hands under his chin, unruffled. "Nun, they're merely offering kind advice. Perhaps you're misunderstanding their intentions."

"Hmph!" Nono glared at him, fury etched across her face. "You know exactly what you're doing."

"You misunderstand," Danzo said with a slight smile. "Think carefully about what I've said—for the children's sake. The Uchiha won't be able to protect you for long."

Danzo was experienced in exploiting vulnerabilities. Whether enemy or ally, once he seized their weaknesses, he was unstoppable.

Knock, knock, knock!

A series of knocks interrupted the tension.

The voice of an orphanage staff member came from the door: "Director, someone from the Konoha Police Force is here—Uchiha Akira has come to see you."

Danzo's eyes narrowed as he silently contemplated, The Uchiha value her this much? Even sending Uchiha Akira… What exactly is she working on for ShinTen Biotech?

"Apologies, Danzo-sama. Please excuse me." Nono stood and opened the door.

As soon as the door opened, Nono paused in surprise. Uchiha Akira was waiting nearby.

"He insisted on coming, we couldn't stop him," the staff member whispered apologetically.

"It's fine. Leave this to me," Nono said.

"Ryouma, Orochimaru, let's go."

Danzo knew, upon seeing Akira, that his visit would yield no results today. Nono had clearly aligned herself with the Uchiha, and unless he could crush the clan completely, there was no chance she would return to Root.

As Danzo's group reached the exit, Uchiha Akira smirked and spoke with mock courtesy.

"Danzo-sama, Orochimaru-sama—it's a rare sight to see you both taking time to visit the orphanage. The village must truly care about its safety and well-being."

Danzo ignored the jab, glancing briefly at Akira before addressing Nono.

"Nun, think carefully about what I've said. As a member of this village, you have a responsibility to contribute."

"Danzo-sama," Nono said firmly, "with all due respect, I won't consider it. I have no intention of returning to Root. This orphanage needs me, and I won't leave it."

Akira, unfazed by Danzo's disregard, stood silently. To him, Danzo was as good as dead already. His presence here was merely a precaution.

"You'll regret this, Nun," Danzo warned coldly, his tone sharp as he turned to leave.

Watching Danzo's retreating figure, Nono muttered, "Is it really okay? I spent years in Root. I know how powerful it is. And Danzo has more than just Root at his disposal."

Her meaning was clear: Danzo wasn't acting alone. He had the support of Konoha's upper echelons.

"Don't worry," Akira reassured her. "We'll assign people to strengthen the orphanage's defenses. You'll be fine."

Seeing Akira's confidence, Nono could only hope the Uchiha Clan's strength would be enough to counter Danzo's schemes.

Meanwhile, as Danzo left the orphanage, he headed straight for the Hokage's office.

To him, tonight's events were grave. The Uchiha Clan needed to be crushed with an iron fist, their arrogance stamped out for good.

Though it was late, the Hokage's office remained brightly lit. The tension on the front lines kept Hiruzen Sarutobi working overtime every night.
