Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Selecting
Based on Akira's speculation, the speed of awakening certain ocular powers might be connected to the chakra of the Sage of Six Paths or the Ōtsutsuki clan.
According to the Sage of Six Paths, Uchiha Madara awakened the Rinnegan by fusing the chakras of Indra and Asura. This fusion drew out his latent chakra, allowing the Rinnegan to manifest. The Sage of Six Paths, known by his true name Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo, was the son of Ōtsutsuki Kaguya, making his chakra pure Ōtsutsuki in origin.
Madara obtained Asura's chakra by transplanting a piece of Senju Hashirama's flesh into his body. However, the amount of Asura chakra within that flesh was likely minimal, and the chakra required to awaken the Rinnegan—essentially the Sage's chakra—was vast. As a result, Madara needed many years to fully awaken the Rinnegan.
Sasuke Uchiha's situation, however, was entirely different. After being directly imbued with the Sage's chakra, he awakened the unique six-tomoe Rinnegan in mere moments. This was due to the Sage directly transferring a significant amount of his power to Sasuke.
Ōtsutsuki Toneri, though a descendant of Ōtsutsuki Hamura, had a remarkably pure bloodline. In terms of purity, his lineage far surpassed that of Hagoromo's sons, Indra and Asura, ranking just below Hagoromo and his brother. Even the main Ōtsutsuki clan acknowledged Toneri's legitimacy.
Toneri's pure chakra allowed him to evolve the Hyūga clan's Byakugan into the Tenseigan. This suggested that, in theory, the Sage's chakra combined with a Hyūga's Byakugan could also lead to the Tenseigan's evolution.
Two known methods exist for obtaining the Tenseigan:
Combining the Byakugan of the Hyūga clan with Ōtsutsuki chakra. Merging a large quantity of Byakugan, thereby causing a qualitative transformation into the Tenseigan.
Who's to say the Giant Tenseigan isn't just another form of the Tenseigan?
At this thought, Akira's eyes lit up. He tilted his head back, gazing at the ceiling as he murmured,
"Ōtsutsuki Toneri should have already been born, right? For me, there's no need to complicate matters. If I can obtain his genetic material, I could clone a body. By then, awakening the Tenseigan would be a simple task."
Indeed, Akira's plan was to visit the moon and obtain some of Toneri's tissue samples for cloning.
This was the orthodox method—combining a Hyūga Byakugan with Ōtsutsuki chakra.
"Still, I need a backup plan," Akira mused. "If the current cloning technology fails to perfectly replicate an Ōtsutsuki body, things could get troublesome."
Cloning technology was still in its infancy, and its reliability was uncertain. Akira understood the wisdom of not putting all his eggs in one basket.
He planned to validate both methods of awakening the Tenseigan. However, he aimed for a Tenseigan akin to Toneri's, not the Giant Tenseigan. Therefore, the method of amassing Byakugan needed modification.
Instead of piling up Byakugan indiscriminately, Akira intended to apply a fusion technique similar to the process of awakening the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. This process involved merging two Mangekyō Sharingan, where one eye absorbed the other's power to create a new set. If Sharingan could undergo such a transformation, what about Byakugan?
"Hyūga clones already have Byakugan," Akira thought. "I'll test whether the fusion method for Mangekyō Sharingan works on Byakugan."
With that decision, Akira immediately arranged for a surgical procedure on a Hyūga clone. Once the operation was complete, all that remained was to wait for the results.
If the Byakugan fused into a single set with enhanced power, it would confirm the method's feasibility. If not, it meant his hypothesis was incorrect.
As he observed the Hyūga clone in the containment chamber, Akira's thoughts drifted to Hyūga Kaori, a kunoichi he had once worked with on a mission in Amegakure.
She had left a favorable impression on him. Back then, during the incident involving the Demonic Statue's tissue samples, she had kept the secret well, ensuring that Konoha never learned of it.
Akira stroked his chin thoughtfully. "I owe her for that. Maybe I should repay the favor when the opportunity arises."
If he successfully evolved the Byakugan into the Tenseigan, the clone of Ōtsutsuki Toneri bearing the Tenseigan would occupy two slots for the Chimera Technique's fusion materials.
Yet, Akira suddenly paused. While the Tenseigan seemed a perfect match for Toneri, the problem was that Toneri himself was born without eyes.
Yes, despite his pure bloodline, Toneri lacked the Byakugan—a hereditary dōjutsu. This meant his clone would likely share this trait, making the Tenseigan and the clone separate entities.
"So be it," Akira muttered. "Toneri isn't the same as the Ōtsutsuki of legend."
The Chimera materials would include Hashirama's clone, Toneri's clone, and the entity bearing the Tenseigan. With three slots occupied, only two remained.
"Jūgo's Sage Body will take one of those slots," Akira decided. "The potential of Sage Mode is immense. The original story didn't even come close to exploring its full capabilities."
From ordinary Sage Mode to the Sage of Six Paths Mode, each was a leap in power. Late in the series, as ninjutsu lost effectiveness against the Rinnegan, Ten-Tails, and Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, only senjutsu and taijutsu proved effective.
Even against the true Ōtsutsuki clan, senjutsu retained some value—if only partially. This was due to its ability to amplify physical strength, enhancing taijutsu significantly.
Beyond combat, advanced senjutsu also offered potent life-extending benefits. Achieving a permanent Sage Mode could even lead to immortality.
The animal sages of the three great summoning realms hinted at this. Katsuyu, the Great Toad Sage, and the White Snake Sage had lived for millennia. Even Fukasaku and Shima, the elder toads of Mount Myōboku, had lived close to a thousand years, with no signs of their lifespans ending.
If ordinary toads could extend their lives so drastically through senjutsu, Akira believed its potential for humans was even greater.
