Chapter 102: Susanoo Vs Sennin Mode
Shikai, empowered by his Sennin Mode, dominated with sheer brute force. Every punch and kick he threw resonated through the air, shattering branches and leaving cracks on the surrounding tree trunks. Shisui, however, used his Sharingan to anticipate his opponent's attacks. Instead of directly countering, he opted for precise dodges, utilizing his superior speed to stay out of reach.
Shikai's hook barely missed Shisui, who bent backward to avoid the impact. He pivoted on one foot and used the momentum to strike Shikai's side, but Shikai blocked the attack with his chakra-enhanced forearm.
"You won't be able to keep running forever, Shisui," Shikai declared, stomping his foot and creating a shockwave that unbalanced his adversary.
Shisui took the opportunity to perform a backflip, repositioning himself on a tree branch.
Realizing he couldn't defeat Shikai solely with Taijutsu, Shisui quickly formed mudras.
"Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu!"
An immense fireball erupted from his lips, engulfing the space between them. Shikai, unperturbed, formed his own mudras at an impressive speed.
"Suiton: Suijinheki."
A gigantic wall of water rose before him, absorbing the fireball and creating a cloud of steam that obscured everyone's vision.
Taking advantage of the confusion, Shisui suddenly reappeared in the smoke, his tanto glinting in the dim light. With blinding speed, he struck Shikai with a powerful kick to the chest, sending him crashing into a tree.
Shikai got back up, wiping a trickle of blood from the corner of his lips. He didn't seem angry but resolute.
"You're still as impressive as ever, Shisui," he said, straightening up. "But you can't win. My duty is to protect Konoha, and I'll do what's necessary, even if it means killing you."
"Protect Konoha?" Shisui replied, his voice filled with sadness.
He knew he had been manipulated, and trying to reason with Shikai was futile.
Without another word, Shisui formed mudras again, but this time Shikai was prepared. In an instant, he used a Nara technique to immobilize Shisui's movements.
"It's over," Shikai murmured, advancing with his natural chakra crackling around him.
"DarkRay."
But Shisui smiled. It was just a shadow clone.
Shikai disappeared, leaving behind a black and violet glow that undulated like a living shadow. Shisui, on alert, instantly activated his Susanoo. A massive ethereal green silhouette appeared around him, its imposing form illuminating the surroundings like a phantom lantern.
Shikai reappeared in a dark flash of light. His eyes shone with an almost supernatural intensity, and his chakra surged around him like a storm.
"Cellular Activation," Shikai whispered.
Immediately, a monstrous force crashed into Shisui's Susanoo.
*Boom!*
*Boom!*
Each blow seemed to shake the very earth. Shikai struck relentlessly, his fists enveloped in a crackling violet-black lightning with every impact. The energy ripples around Shikai gave the impression that he had become a force of nature.
Shisui counterattacked by releasing chakra projectiles from the arm of his Susanoo. The immense luminous arrows flew at incredible speed towards Shikai. But Shikai dodged each one with inhuman agility, his movements leaving trails of shadows in the air.
Shikai didn't waste any time. Forming mudras swiftly, he summoned the Adamantine Chains. The black and gold chains emerged from the ground, immediately wrapping around Shisui's Susanoo, almost completely immobilizing it.
"Kage Bunshin no Jutsu,"
In an instant, hundreds of clones appeared around Shisui. The trees were overrun by a multitude of identical silhouettes.
Shisui swallowed hard. Shikai had gained considerable power since their last encounter.
"Senpo: Cho Ōdama Rasengan!"
All the clones leaped in unison, their Ōdama Rasengan spinning in their hands. The air vibrated under the pressure of concentrated chakra.
The clones crashed into the Susanoo, their Rasengan striking the ethereal armor like waves against rocks. Cracks began to appear on the imperfect Susanoo, a web of luminous fissures. Shisui, behind the protective barrier, sighed. He knew that Shikai didn't truly want him dead, otherwise, he would have used his RaiKnife, a S-rank technique with a reputation that made opponents flee at the sight of it.
As the Susanoo finally crumbled under the pressure, Shisui saw Shikai reappear in a flash. His hand was extended, ready to deliver a decisive blow. Shisui knew that hand bore a Hiraishin seal, allowing Shikai to appear anywhere next to him. If he managed to touch him.
But Shisui wasn't going down without a fight. Activating his Mangekyō Sharingan, he dodged at the last second, his tanto whistling through the air in a counter-attack attempt.
Shikai, however, caught the blade mid-air with disconcerting ease and snapped it in two with a finger's pressure.
A piercing shriek.
Like the cry of a thousand birds, echoed through the clearing.
"Chidori!" Shisui laughed, revealing a technique he had copied from Kakashi.
Shisui's arm was covered in crackling blue lightning, and he charged towards Shikai at blinding speed.
"Shit!"
Shikai, seeing the danger, used his Hiraishin to teleport a few meters away. But it was too late. The edge of the Chidori had reached his mask, cutting it in half.
The mask fell to the ground, revealing Shikai's face. A thin red line trickled from his left eye, and his vision began to blur.
"This... is impossible," Shikai murmured, struggling to stay upright despite the shock.
Shisui, panting, lowered his arm. He looked at Shikai with sadness.
"I'm sorry, Shikai," he whispered, his gaze filled with regret.
Before Shikai could react, Shisui turned and disappeared into the forest, his footsteps becoming a distant echo.
***
The forest had fallen silent once more. The moon reflected on the leaves damp with dew, and Shikai woke up with a start in a dark campsite, covered in cold sweat.
"Sensei! You've had that nightmare again," Ino's voice rang out, soft yet concerned.
Shikai turned his head slightly towards her, his tired gaze carrying a hint of melancholy.
"Yes... the same dream again," he murmured, his voice heavy with gravity.
Ino placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Maybe it's time to face this past, it's been five years, sensei," she said gently.
