Chapter 101: Shisui the Mirage VS Shikai, DarkRai
Under the dense shadow of a forest bathed in moonlight, Shisui Uchiha, known as "Shisui the Mirage," stood in the middle of a clearing. The heavy silence was suddenly broken by the rustling of leaves, signaling the arrival of the Root forces. Twenty masked men advanced, their intentions clear: to eliminate one of Konoha's most formidable shinobis.
Shisui remained motionless, his calm and calculating gaze fixed on his enemies. In his right hand, he held his tanto, a short but sharp blade.
Without warning, the Root ninjas rushed at Shisui, coordinating their attacks. One of them attempted a direct strike with a kunai. Shisui elegantly pivoted, barely dodging, and retaliated with a spinning kick that sent his opponent crashing into a tree trunk.
Two other ninjas tried to attack him simultaneously from the flanks. Shisui leaped backward, letting his tanto fly into his left hand. He charged forward in a flash, his speed defying human senses.
One ninja found himself disarmed in an instant: Shisui had blocked his attack with a swift blade reversal and followed up with a knee strike to the stomach. The other received a rapid series of blows to the chest, rendering him unconscious before he even hit the ground.
Shisui employed the shunshin no jutsu, his speed was so fast that he seemed to teleport. He vanished from their sight, leaving behind a series of residual images that disoriented the assailants. One of the Root members attacked an illusory silhouette, only to be struck from behind with a sharp blow to the neck, blood gushing out.
Their mudras followed in quick succession, invoking elemental attacks to restrict his movements. A barrage of kunais was launched, but Shisui quickly formed a shadow clone that intercepted the projectiles.
His clone leaped into the air, distracting two of the ninjas, while the real Shisui slipped behind another. With a fluid motion, he slid his tanto across his opponent's throat, causing him to collapse silently.
A Root shinobi, seizing an opening, managed to throw an explosive kunai. Shisui performed a backflip to dodge the blast. Barely landing, he faced an opponent armed with a ninjato. The blades clashed in a rapid series of movements, each attack repelled with precision.
Shisui activated his three-tomoe Sharingan, his scarlet irises reflecting the pale moonlight. His movements became even more unpredictable, his enemies appearing to anticipate his every move.
One of the ninjas attempted a feint, throwing a smoke bomb to conceal his approach. But Shisui, with his Sharingan, saw clearly through the smoke. With a fluid gesture, he placed his opponent in a genjutsu.
The victim was trapped in an illusion where he saw his allies turn against him. Disoriented, he lowered his guard, and Shisui took the opportunity to slice off his head with a precise strike of his tanto.
Witnessing their comrades fall, the Root ninjas changed tactics. One of them formed complex mudras before unleashing a watery dragon (Suiton: Suiryūdan no Jutsu), a swirling mass of water shaped like a dragon, roaring through the trees and charging at Shisui.
Unfazed, Shisui countered with a combined jutsu he had perfected: Lightning Explosion (Raiton: Bakurai).
He concentrated his lightning chakra in his hand, releasing a massive electric charge. The bolt collided with the water dragon, causing a sparkling explosion that neutralized the attack and electrocuted the caster, leaving his smoking body lifeless.
Another ninja tried to exploit the opening by casting a fire jutsu, but Shisui used his Shunshin no Jutsu to move so swiftly that he seemed to disappear. Reappearing behind his attacker, he plunged his tanto into the man's back, ending the fight.
Shisui employed the fire-release technique (Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu), projecting a massive fireball that engulfed the surroundings. Two Root ninjas were consumed by the flames, but the others managed to dodge. Shisui, taking advantage of the distraction, used his Shunshin no Jutsu, moving so fast that he appeared to split into two.
Through this supernatural speed, he created shadow clones, blending their presence with his own. The enemies, disoriented, fell quickly under his strikes. Utilizing the fire-release technique (Katon: Hōsenka no Jutsu), he unleashed a rain of small fireballs in all directions, forcing the assailants to scatter. Amidst the chaos, Shisui eliminated five enemies in a split second, swiftly switching places with his clones to remain elusive.
As he dodged a kunai with a fluid movement, Shisui sensed a presence behind him. He deflected another kunai with his tanto, but the weapon stopped in mid-air, held by dark shadowy hands that extended like tentacles.
Shisui leaped backward, but another kunai, the one he had previously avoided, reappeared behind him, held by a figure.
"Senpo: Ōdama Rasengan!"
The gigantic chakra sphere descended upon him, but Shisui barely managed to switch places. His clone exploded in a cloud of smoke.
"Shi-... DarkRai?!" Shisui exclaimed, stunned.
Before him stood Shikai, masked and unperturbed, yet instantly recognizable. This was no ordinary enemy. Shikai, once his friend and comrade, now loomed as a menacing shadow, ready to subdue him.
"Shisui," Shikai murmured with a calm yet intense voice. "It's regrettable that we've come to this. I have no choice. Surrender, without causing any more deaths."
"I can't," Shisui replied, his voice tinged with sadness and determination.
The two men stared at each other, their silhouettes contrasting under the pale moonlight.
"Retreat," Shikai ordered the surviving Root members. "I'll handle him."
As his opponents withdrew, Shisui felt the natural chakra surge around Shikai. He knew he was about to face a formidable opponent, now in Sage Mode.
At the same moment, they leaped towards each other, their movements synchronized as an echo of their past trainings. It was a pure taijutsu battle, a deadly dance of evasive maneuvers and strikes.
