Chapter 236: Danzo Takes the Eye!

In the Root base.

When the news of the Jonin meeting reached him, Danzo's expression was so dark it seemed water might drip from his face.

The Shimura clan had openly betrayed him, Shimura Danzo!!

And, shamelessly, they groveled before Haneda while disparaging him—the Root leader who had once brought their clan so many benefits!

On top of that, the inherently evil Uchiha brat had truly become the Fifth Hokage!

"I will take back everything I've lost!!!"

Danzo glared at the deep, shadowy tunnel leading toward Konoha, his teeth grinding in anger.

But when he thought about how the Uchiha had maintained an overnight alert—so strict that even during the morning Jonin meeting, movement within the Uchiha district had been restricted—he found himself at a loss against Haneda.

All of his carefully laid plans had been disrupted by Haneda!

"Damn it!"

"Without Shisui's eye, how can I lead Root to oppose that inherently evil Uchiha brat?!"

Lowering his head, Shisui opened his palm and found himself smiling.

"What I've always pursued has been achieved."

"But Lord Danzo…"

Shisui smiled bitterly, a trace of helplessness in his expression.

Lord Haneda's hatred for Danzo ran deep.

Once Haneda officially assumed the Hokage position, he would undoubtedly move against Danzo.

Suddenly, a masked ninja appeared to Shisui's right, emerging from the shadows between two buildings.

The moment Shisui sensed the ninja's presence, he recognized him as a Root operative.

And when he saw the man's hairstyle, he confirmed it—it was Aburame Torune, Danzo's trusted aide.

"Shisui, Lord Danzo has requested your presence at the Root base," Torune said emotionlessly.

"Alright." Shisui had been considering speaking with Danzo face-to-face, so he immediately agreed.

Following Torune, Shisui quickly moved toward the Forest of Death, his mind preoccupied with how he could persuade Danzo.

They passed through the streets of Konoha and entered the dense forest.

Leaping from branch to branch, Shisui asked Torune,

"Does Lord Danzo have something specific he wants to discuss with me?"

"Lord Danzo is preparing to leave Konoha. Before he departs, he has a few things he wishes to say to you," Torune replied in the same detached tone.

Hearing this, Shisui immediately understood why Danzo hadn't attended the Jonin meeting in the morning and why he had sent Torune to summon him.

"Actually…"

Shisui began to speak but stopped himself when he saw Torune's cold, emotionless gaze.

Torune, following Danzo's orders strictly, didn't initiate any further conversation.

After a few minutes, they arrived at a cliffside.

Under the afternoon sun, Danzo stood leaning on his cane, gazing out at Konoha.

Beside him were only two Root ninjas.

"You're here, Shisui. Looking at you, I can't help but feel a familiar warmth—just like when I saw your grandfather."

Danzo turned around and gestured for the Root ninjas to step aside.

Without any suspicion, Shisui walked closer.

"Lord Danzo, Lord Haneda has promised me that as long as you hand over Root, he is willing to spare you."

"Him?" Danzo sneered.

Just as Shisui was about to explain that Haneda was a man of his word, Danzo abruptly reached for Shisui's eye.

"Your Sharingan—I'll take it!"

Danzo's outstretched hand and left eye grew larger in Shisui's vision.

Shisui's eyes immediately turned into their three-tomoe Sharingan form.

Grabbing Danzo's hand, Shisui cast a genjutsu, placing everyone around them under control.

"This is just an ordinary genjutsu. They'll break free soon enough."

With a complex expression, Shisui gave Danzo one last glance before beginning to walk away from the cliffside.

But at that moment, Danzo's body disappeared. Sensing danger, Shisui realized it was too late!

Danzo reappeared in front of him, landing a powerful punch to Shisui's chest.

Shisui tried to counter, but a second punch struck his jaw.

Thrown off balance, Shisui was lifted into the air by Danzo, who reached for his right eye.

"You're still so naive—just like your grandfather."

Danzo removed the bandage over his right eye, revealing a three-tomoe Sharingan.

Moments later, the Sharingan returned to its normal state, losing its luster and going dark.

Danzo had just used Izanagi!

"This will replace my previous eye. The last one was your grandfather's; it's only fitting that yours is next."

"I will take your eye and reclaim Hiruzen's Konoha!"

Around Danzo, over ten Root ninjas appeared, forming a protective circle.

Seeing this, Shisui abandoned the idea of using Kotoamatsukami.

Kotoamatsukami couldn't be cast on multiple targets simultaneously.

Instead, he quickly formed seals and unleashed Fire Release: Great Fireball Jutsu toward Danzo.

Several Root ninjas in front of Danzo countered with Water Release: Wild Water Wave, neutralizing the attack.

Using the cover of the rising mist, Shisui escaped.

"Pursue him! Take his other eye!!"

Danzo's cold command echoed.

The Root ninjas immediately gave chase.

Danzo extended his hand, the freshly taken Sharingan resting in his palm.

The eye met his gaze, its vivid pattern staring back at him.
