Chapter 62: Self-examination and Determination
Chapter
63: Self-examination and Determination
After seeing Menma's cold attitude,
Tazuna couldn't help but feel nervous. He quickly stepped sideways to stand
between his grandson and Menma, just as he was about to say something.
"Menma!" Kakashi-sensei
noticed Menma's abnormal mood changes and frowned, shouting in a deep voice.
It was as if he was awakened by
Kakashi-sensei's words. "Sorry, I'm rude. I just thought of something
unpleasant," Menma said, taking a deep breath to calm down his emotions
and restrain his murderous aura.
But at this moment, Inari no longer
had the courage to yell as he had before. His whole body was shaking
uncontrollably, as if he had lost all his strength. He collapsed in his
mother's arms, hugging her tightly, with his head buried deep, not daring to look
at Menma again. Tsunami also held her son tightly, glancing at Menma with a
hint of fear. Initially, Tsunami had thought these little ninjas were still
children, but now she didn't think so. A ninja is a ninja, after all. Tazuna
always felt like he was about to collapse.
At that moment, Tazuna was genuinely
afraid that Menma would take action against his grandson. Naruto, Sakura, and
Sasuke all looked at Menma with varying degrees of strangeness. This sudden
outburst was very inconsistent with Menma's previous personality.
Menma himself seemed to realize
this. "How stupid!" he muttered in a low voice, not knowing whether
it was directed at Inari or himself. He put his head in his hands and walked
towards the corridor outside the living room.
Watching Menma leave, Naruto wanted
to say something but chose to give up. Honestly, at that moment, Naruto had the
urge to scold Inari. Although Naruto in this life did not have the same
experience as in the original story, his personality could not accept the cries
of a timid person. Team 7 comprised three young members, who had even become
orphans earlier. Despite Naruto's positive and optimistic demeanor, he
privately longed for his parents' care but never showed it outside. This was
Naruto's own insistence. Inari was very small, but who hasn't come from
childhood? Naruto felt he could somewhat understand Menma's mood.
Sasuke, in the farthest position,
also looked deeply at the departing figure with a numb face, a different kind
of luster faintly showing in his pupils. 'You and I are the same...'
Sakura was the only one who couldn't
understand Menma, feeling he was a little too harsh. In her opinion, Inari was
just a child who had lost his father. Some inappropriate remarks should be
tolerated. How could Menma treat Inari like that? Sakura felt Menma was wrong
and disliked him even more. She completely ignored that she was the only one in
the team with both parents or maybe never thought about this aspect and always
focused on herself.
Kakashi-sensei held a similar view
to Naruto. He felt that Menma's childhood experiences had left a deep imprint,
causing him to explode when stimulated by Inari. Their guess couldn't be said
to be wrong but was not comprehensive enough.
Menma, who had already left, could
not know what Kakashi-sensei and Naruto were thinking. After arriving at the
high point of the sea cliff, the cold sea breeze helped calm his mind. A look
of self-deprecation appeared on his face.
'I'm still not mature enough. I'm
just a strange kid. Why should I compete with him? Really, what on earth am I
doing? When did I become so stupid?' Menma slapped his cheeks harder.
"Snap!" He murmured in a
low voice, feeling very annoyed.
Inari was a kid destined to have no
interaction with him, not even an ordinary supporting character in this world.
Why should he care? Just because of his experience in this life? Because of a
sense of déjà vu from a previous event in another life?
Menma did not deny that at that
moment, his heart was full of the urge to rush up and beat Inari, similar to
when Naruto insisted on continuing to perform the mission. This made Menma feel
very annoyed. But thinking about it now, did this make sense? No! This was just
a disgusting venting of personal emotions. It had no meaning to himself or the
current reality. This was all a manifestation of Menma's own immaturity and
personality change.
Including the inexplicable concern
for Naruto before, and even getting angry because of Naruto's attitude and
character. So what if he is his younger brother? Do they have any experience
living together? No! Is there any real brotherhood? No! Just because of blood
relations? Because Naruto has a very similar personality to his brother from
his previous life?
Okay, maybe these are reasons, but
do I have the qualifications and room to consider these now? There must be a
limit to fooling around. Pretentiousness must be stopped immediately. Stupidity
is not allowed. What is your goal? What is your plan? Can't you see yourself
clearly? Can't you make up your mind? If that's the case, then you might as
well die!
Humans indeed have seven emotions
and six desires and are prone to making mistakes. But after making mistakes,
they must learn to introspect and correct themselves! Menma felt disgusted
thinking about his previous hypocrisy and affectation. He had clearly said he
would be a thorough egoist. In the end, he still cared about this and that?
Is something wrong with his brain?
Is he a split personality!? In this mission, Menma really examined his heart.
What exactly does he want! That is to live! Live as freely and unrestrainedly
as possible, and do things that make his mind clear! In this life, he wants to
live transparently!
Menma looked at the calm and deep
sea level, and a resolute and sharp look appeared in his pupils. 'No one can
stop me, no matter who wants to stop me. I will not hesitate any more!'
At this moment, in this Land of
Waves, Menma made his own decision.
After blowing in the cold wind on
the cliff for a while and calming himself down completely, Menma returned to
the house. Some things seemed to have never happened. Menma also returned to
his previous calm appearance.
Menma's state of mind had undergone
a real transformation. Under the seemingly calm and even gentle attitude, there
was a more unfamiliar alienation. But it was different from the immature period
in the past. Now Menma could perfectly put on a hypocritical mask that others
were willing to see.
People need setbacks and need to
grow. No one is born mature and rational. Now Menma had taken the most critical
step.
