Chapter 52 - Awakening
Hearing this, Qin Ang took a deep breath, his expression unusually grave.
Chang Ye hesitated before asking,
“Commander Qin, with such a terrifying enemy eliminated and the nuclear facilities not severely damaged, shouldn’t you be relieved? Why do you seem so troubled?”
“That may not necessarily be a good thing,” Qin Ang replied thoughtfully.
“Why do you say that?”
Chang Ye asked in confusion.
“There are two possibilities now. One is that this terrifying weapon encountered an even more formidable existence and was destroyed. This indicates that a stronger enemy has infiltrated Clear Sky City.”
“Is that really possible? Is there an even stronger enemy?”
The soldiers present shuddered at the thought.
“Aside from that possibility, the other is that it was destroyed intentionally. This means an extremely powerful awakener has appeared! This is also not a good thing because it represents the emergence of a very unstable existence in Clear Sky City, which is uncontrollable.”
Qin Ang analyzed the situation calmly.
“What should we do then?”
Chang Ye asked anxiously.
“Well, this is not something you need to worry about. Secure the site, especially the wreckage of this weapon. No one is allowed to touch it; wait for the KPI department to take over.”
“Sir, if I may be so bold. Are we really giving it to the KPI department? What about the lord and General Bai Yue?”
Lieutenant Chang Ye said in shock.
“Obey the orders. I will explain and report to the lord and General Bai Yue,”
Administrator Qin Ang said succinctly.
“Yes!”
Seeing Qin Ang’s resolve, Lieutenant Chang Ye could only comply with the orders.
One day later.
Clear Sky City, Gospel Hospital, in a patient room.
Shen Qiu struggled to open his eyes, feeling an indescribable ache in his head and all over his body.
“Damn, you’re finally awake!”
A familiar voice rang out.
Shen Qiu looked closely and saw Huang Gan leaning over him, shouting excitedly.
“Where am I?”
Shen Qiu asked painfully.
“Where else could it be? Of course, you’re in Gospel Hospital,” Huang Gan replied.
“How did I end up here?”
Shen Qiu asked, feeling miserable, his mind blank as if he were coming out of a drunken stupor.
Cao Kun then stepped closer and spoke, “You were found unconscious in the bushes by the side of the road. The rescue team discovered you and brought you here. You’ve been unconscious for a day and a night. If it weren’t for the doctors saying you’re fine, just a bit of a concussion from the explosion impact, we would have thought you were going to die.”
“That’s right! When we got the notification and rushed to the hospital to see you, we were all shocked. You looked like you had just been blasted by a shell,” Huang Gan joked.
Shen Qiu glanced down at himself and saw that the exposed parts of his skin were blackened. He could imagine how horrendous he must have looked at that moment.
He remained silent for a moment before speaking.
“Thank you for taking care of me.”
“Stop right there, don’t thank us. We just came to see you; it was Zhao Lian who took care of you before. She had other matters to attend to and couldn’t stay any longer,” Huang Gan explained to Shen Qiu.
“By the way, your changed clothes, phone, and other belongings are all placed in a special locker. Remember to take them when you leave the hospital,” Cao Kun added.
“Okay.”
Shen Qiu softly replied and fell into silence again.
“Alright, don’t worry. You’re fine, and thanks to you drawing away that monster, all the babies at the welfare home were rescued. You’re really something, brother,” Cao Kun said sincerely to Shen Qiu.
“It’s nothing; I just did what I had to do,” Shen Qiu shook his head and replied.
“Well, we won’t keep you any longer. Now that you’re awake, we can rest easy. It’s time for us to go. After all, with such a big incident, there are still a lot of messes to clean up,” Huang Gan said, stretching.
“Huang Gan is right. We have to leave now. Stay in touch and call us when you can,” Cao Kun said with a smile to Shen Qiu.
“Sure!”
Shen Qiu nodded in response, not attempting to keep them.
“By the way, I’ve already prepaid your medical expenses, so you don’t have to worry about that. We’re off now!”
Huang Gan waved his hand casually at Shen Qiu, and then he and Cao Kun left together.
Shen Qiu watched their departing figures and revealed a faint smile.
He then lay quietly in bed, carefully recalling the events of that night.
However, as soon as he started to think, Shen Qiu felt a sharp pain in his head. He vaguely remembered being chased by that terrifying weapon and that he seemed to have been affected by an attack, ultimately getting electrocuted.
As for what happened afterward, Shen Qiu truly couldn’t remember.
At that moment, he heard the creaking sound of the door being pushed open, and he snapped back to reality, looking toward the door.
The door swung open, and Amu walked straight in. Upon seeing Shen Qiu lying there, he said happily, “Brother, you’re awake!”
“Mm.”
Shen Qiu nodded in response.
“How do you feel? Is there anywhere that doesn’t feel right?”
Amu walked to the edge of the bed and inquired.
“I’m fine; I just need to rest a bit,” Shen Qiu replied calmly.
“Glad to hear you’re okay. This is a commendation letter from above, specifically to honor your bravery. To be honest, brother, I really admire you; you were incredibly courageous. Not only did you help us save people, but you also managed to draw away the most dangerous monster by yourself. Thanks to you, we were able to rescue those babies.”
Amu took out a letter of commendation and handed it to Shen Qiu, genuinely praising him.
Shen Qiu glanced at the commendation letter and fell into deep thought.
Meanwhile, Amu excitedly recounted the subsequent battles from that night.
“But you don’t know, brother, when you lured the monster away, we were guarding that staircase, and we were really on edge.”
At that moment, Shen Qiu suddenly interrupted Amu.
“Amu, Commander.”
“Ah? What’s wrong?”
Amu looked at Shen Qiu in confusion.
Shen Qiu gazed at Amu, his expression changing slightly, and then asked, “Amu Commander, I want to know if I can enlist in the army?”
Amu was taken aback by Shen Qiu’s question and for a moment didn’t know how to respond.
Shen Qiu looked at Amu with great anticipation. The reason he suddenly asked Amu was clear to him.
The nights were becoming increasingly dangerous, and the Red Alliance had strict control over weapons. Being unarmed left him in a very passive position, and he could easily find himself in deadly situations.
Shen Qiu had thought carefully about it, and the only way to legally and quickly obtain weapons seemed to be through enlisting in the army.
“Brother, let me tell you something. Honestly, I think you’re really exceptional. Whether it’s your physical fitness or character, you’re outstanding. If you really enlist, you would be the best companion. But still, I think it’s better to pass on that; your situation isn’t suitable.”
Amu replied awkwardly. In fact, he had already checked Shen Qiu’s records.
He hadn’t expected that Shen Qiu had a history of mental illness, which would never pass the review process.
Thinking of this made Amu feel it was such a shame.
Shen Qiu felt a bit regretful upon hearing Amu’s words. However, he didn’t say anything more; he just asked out of curiosity.
Seeing that Shen Qiu didn’t speak, Amu thought he had been discouraged and quickly added, “Brother, don’t be disheartened. Maybe your condition will improve in the future.”
“Yeah, okay.”
Shen Qiu responded calmly.
