Night of the Apocalypse

Chapter 74 - Success

Eighteen figures dressed in combat uniforms were gathered around the bottles and jars, seemingly engaged in some activity.

Among them, five captives were tied up, including the middle-aged woman who had blocked Shen Qiu earlier. Her mouth was stuffed with rags, and her face was filled with terror, likely having wet herself from fright.

At that moment, a frustrated roar erupted, accompanied by the clanking sounds of iron chains.

Both Shen Qiu and Yun Xiaoxi were startled.

Following the noise, they peered deeper into the laboratory.

At the far end of the lab stood a solid, closed iron door, in front of which loomed a humanoid monster, grotesque in shape, standing five meters tall and four meters wide.

This monstrous creature had a massive head with a pair of green eyes and a mouth large enough to swallow a basketball.

Its bloated body was made entirely of flesh, and a vertical split ran down its chest, exposing rib bones that resembled fangs, opening and closing rhythmically.

However, this monster had a limited range of movement, as it was bound by several pitch-black chains. Two of the chains pierced through its collarbone.

Shen Qiu and Yun Xiaoxi both took a deep breath, holding their breaths as they observed from their hiding spot.

Inside the laboratory, a man in combat gear with a scruffy beard and a scar over his left eye, radiating a fierce demeanor, was holding a submachine gun and impatiently speaking to a thin, bespectacled team member.

“Emu, what the hell are you doing? Aren’t you a genius? Why hasn’t the anesthetic been prepared yet after all this time?”

“Lord Baikatu, I’m almost done! Just give me a bit more time. The materials we brought are limited, and we don’t recognize any of the materials here. We can only try them one by one, and some of the drugs have expired, so they won’t work! But it’ll be ready soon, I promise!”

Emu wiped the sweat from his forehead, speaking nervously.

He knew that if he angered Baikatu, even if they succeeded later, his life would likely be in jeopardy.

“Lord, please give Emu a bit more time. We don’t have any other options right now. That monster guarding the door is exceptionally strong! We’ve tried everything, but no matter how much damage we inflict, it can recover in the blink of an eye. Trying to fight it has already cost us a lot of brothers, leaving us with only a dozen or so left.”

Ozak stepped forward to persuade him.

Baikatu’s fierce gaze flickered; although he was extremely displeased, he suppressed his anger.

“That’s great! They only have a dozen left.”

By the door of the interrogation room, Yun Xiaoxi said in a voice as faint as a mosquito’s buzz.

Great? They only have a dozen left?

Shen Qiu really wanted to pry open this girl’s head to see what was going on inside.

“Don’t be impulsive. Those remaining dozen or so people are the most difficult to deal with. Besides, they all have weapons, and our chances of winning are low if a fight breaks out.”

“Do you have any good ideas?”

“If I’m not mistaken, those people are probably going to target that monster. We can be patient and observe the situation, looking for an opportunity to act.”

Shen Qiu suggested after some thought.

“Okay!”

Yun Xiaoxi replied, suppressing her impulse.

As time passed, Emu kept mixing various potions in the laboratory.

From time to time, he heated the containers while stirring!

Baikatu and the others were pacing around nearby.

Before long, the liquid in the container turned blue, and Emu immediately showed an excited expression, saying to Baikatu, “It should be ready!”

“Are you sure?”

Baikatu grabbed Emu by the neck.

“It should work this time; trust me!”

Emu swallowed hard.

“Good. If it doesn’t work, you’ll see how I deal with you. Ozak, bring that fat lady over here,” Baikatu shouted to Ozak.

Ozak didn’t hesitate for a moment and dragged the woman over.

At that moment, the woman, whose mouth was stuffed with rags, had a look of extreme terror on her face and kept struggling. Unfortunately, no matter how much she struggled, it was useless, and she was still dragged away.

The remaining captives, upon witnessing this scene, some of them directly wet their pants.

“Hold her down!”

Ozak shouted to the nearby team members.

Several subordinates immediately stepped forward and firmly held the woman down.
At this time, Emu walked over with the prepared potion.

Ozak directly pulled the rag out of the woman’s mouth and, with gloved hands, pried her mouth open.

“Uh, no!”

The woman kept pleading, tears and mucus streaming down her face.

Unfortunately, it was of no use; Emu directly poured the potion into her mouth.

After pouring it in, Ozak’s subordinate took the rag again and stuffed it back into the woman’s mouth.

In just a few seconds, the woman’s eyes rolled back, and she fainted.

“Woji, throw it over.”

Seeing this, Baikatu said in a deep voice.

“Got it!”

A short man with a sinister face took the unconscious woman and dragged her toward the monster. When he reached a certain distance, he stopped.

The deformed monster charged violently toward Woji!

Crash!

The chains suddenly tightened, producing a piercing sound, and the bloated, deformed monster immediately stopped.

Woji couldn’t help but flinch as he waved his hand at the unconscious woman, an invisible wind lifting her and moving her toward the monster.

As they got closer, the deformed monster reached out with one hand and grabbed the unconscious woman, shoving her directly into its gaping chest cavity.

The overlapping ribs snapped shut, and bright red blood immediately began to seep out.

Woji watched this scene and quickly stepped back to put some distance between himself and the deformed monster.

From the doorway, Yun Xiaoxi observed the scene, her eyes revealing a hint of anger. However, she still managed to restrain herself; after all, anger wouldn’t solve the problem.

Shen Qiu’s expression shifted several times as he spoke quietly to Yun Xiaoxi.

“A wind-element awakened one. I wonder how many other awakened ones are in the team.”

“The one leading, Baikatu, is also an awakened one. The others are unclear,” Yun Xiaoxi replied, taking a deep breath to calm her racing heart.

“Alright, let’s keep observing!”

Shen Qiu responded in a deep voice.

Seven minutes later, after the deformed monster had completely digested the woman, its eyelids suddenly began to droop, and its whole body swayed unsteadily.

“Effective, it worked!”

Emu exclaimed excitedly upon seeing this scene.

“Shut up, everyone be quiet!”

Baikatu turned around and glared at Emu and the others.

Emu and the others quickly covered their mouths, not daring to make a sound.

At that moment, the deformed monster collapsed to the ground and fell into a deep sleep.

Suppressing his excitement, Baikatu turned to Woji and said, “Woji, go up and test it.”

“Okay!”

Woji raised his hand, and a stone on the ground floated into the air before flying toward the sleeping monster, striking it directly.

Bang!

The stone fell to the ground with a thud.

The deformed monster remained sound asleep, completely unresponsive.

“Very good. Emu, bring a few more vials of the sedative.”

Baikatu turned to Emu and instructed.

“No problem, there are extra quantities.”

Emu quickly poured the remaining concocted medicines into glass tubes and sealed them with caps.
