Chapter 116: Chapter 116: The Attack
In front of Naval Base 66, a clean, wide avenue stretched far into the distance, perfect for the carriages of gift-bearers to pass through.
A bored naval soldier, leaning by the gate on guard duty, pointed towards the base commander's office with a sly grin.
"Vice Admiral Lawrence is at it again with those slave girls. Just thinking about the scene is enough to make one's nose bleed, haha."
"Yeah, exactly. It's not just human girls, but also members of the Longarm Tribe, Longleg Tribe, and even the Longneck Tribe. Oh, and yesterday, President Berkeley even gifted him a mermaid. Although she was a married one and her tail had turned into human legs, it's still quite thrilling. She's the most expensive type of slave, worth billions of Beli."
"That's nothing! Didn't you notice that a slave ship brought in a giant girl the other day? I heard she was only 30 years old, equivalent to a ten-year-old human, but she was already five meters tall. Haha, I wonder if Vice Admiral Lawrence, at his age, can still handle it."
"Shh! Are you looking to die? Vice Admiral Lawrence spends twelve hours a day in his hot spring retreat. He's more than capable, don't forget—he's a Zoan-type Devil Fruit user."
The two naval soldiers, aroused by their talk, planned to visit the Pleasure Street on the island after their shift for some fun.
Coincidentally, Vice Admiral Lawrence had generously distributed money to the crew today.
Rumor had it that the total amount was a billion Beli.
Vice Admiral Lawrence was, without a doubt, the most generous superior they had ever served under.
As long as they followed orders, even the lowest-ranking third-class and second-class soldiers could earn as much as a commissioned officer at headquarters each year.
It was said that some rear admirals received annual bonuses exceeding billions of Beli.
This generosity made every naval soldier at Base 66 utterly loyal to Lawrence.
In the Sabaody Archipelago, even the words of the Fleet Admiral from headquarters couldn't command as much authority as Lawrence's.
Suddenly, the two chatting soldiers noticed a tall figure emerging on the distant road, steadily walking towards them.
"Hey, look, someone's coming to deliver gifts again. Being stationed here is paradise—we get money every day. It's the best job ever," the soldier on the left said with a teasing grin.
But the soldier on the right, who was more observant, noticed that the man approaching didn't seem to be carrying any gifts.
This was unusual.
Only individuals like President Berkeley, who had a particularly close relationship with Vice Admiral Lawrence, were exempt from bringing gifts with every visit.
Everyone else was expected to bring something.
Otherwise, they wouldn't even get past the base's gate.
Moreover, the soldier realized that the approaching man's face seemed familiar.
"Hey, don't you think he looks familiar? I feel like I've seen him somewhere before."
He glanced at his companion, only to find him trembling uncontrollably, his face full of fear and anxiety.
"It's... it's Alisto! It's Alisto!"
The soldier on the left stammered and screamed, collapsing to the ground and scrambling backward.
"Alisto? Who's that?"
The soldier on the right hadn't yet grasped the situation.
"Idiot! He's the bloodthirsty avenger who hunts down marines for sport and has brutally killed thousands of navy soldiers—Alisto!"
"Enemy attack! Enemy attack!"
The fallen soldier's panicked scream echoed throughout the base.
"What did you say? It's actually…"
Before the standing soldier could finish processing his shock, the massive figure in the distance suddenly dissipated like mist...
Then, the soldier saw a towering, demonic figure standing behind the headless corpse of a navy soldier, mouth agape, savoring the blood gushing like a fountain from the severed neck.
"Is that... my body? What's happening?"
The soldier's vision faded into endless darkness.
"Delicious, delicious. The blood of the navy is as intoxicating as ever."
Aristo tossed aside the now shriveled, mummified corpse and turned his crimson eyes toward the soldier who had collapsed on the ground, trembling uncontrollably, soaked in fear and filth.
"Disgusting, truly repulsive."
Aristo frowned, reached to his waist, and slowly drew a blood-red rapier, slashing it casually in front of him.
"Shhh!"
A blood-red arc of light swept across, and the soldier sitting on the ground collapsed instantly, like a bucket of paint spilled across the floor, indistinguishable as a person.
The crescent-shaped slash cut through the ground, shattered the gilded gate, and carved through the base's plaza, leaving a gaping chasm that penetrated the front façade of the base's main building.
The entire building split in two.
Everything the blade's light touched—walls, people—was obliterated.
The massive noise startled all personnel remaining in Naval Base 66 into full alert.
Moments later, navy soldiers and officers rushed from all corners of the base.
Some soldiers were disheveled, others groggy, faces marked by confusion and disbelief.
The officers, in contrast, had hardened expressions, eyes filled with fury.
Next to the base commander's office—
The sudden, violent tremor made Vice Admiral Lawrence jolt in fright, causing him to slip and crash onto the hard poolside.
The searing pain made his eyes bulge out.
Under the terrified gazes of the enslaved girls, he shakily glanced down at his body.
"I…"
"Ahhh! Damn it! Who dares? I'll kill them and their entire family!"
Blinded by rage and humiliation, Lawrence didn't bother dressing, instead kicking open the door of the hot spring room, sending the entire door panel flying.
But in the next moment, as his eyes took in the scene unfolding in the plaza below, all his fury and pain evaporated instantly.
It felt like a bucket of ice-cold water had been dumped over his head; Lawrence shuddered.
"It's Aristo the Avenger! How did that demon get here? Didn't I have people watching him? What were those idiots doing?"
In the plaza below, the towering Aristo stood, holding the less-than-a-meter-long rapier that looked like a toy in his massive hand, coldly observing the hundreds of gathering navy soldiers.
"Fire! Shoot!"
The rear admirals, brigadiers, and captains, not willing to give Aristo any chance to react, immediately ordered an attack as soon as the soldiers had assembled.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Hundreds of navy soldiers fired their long-barreled flintlocks, filling the base with the smoke of gunpowder.
The thunderous sound echoed, drawing the attention of many around the base, who looked on in shock, unable to fathom what was happening inside the naval grounds.
No one could have imagined that someone would dare to challenge the entire Naval Base 66.
And alone, at that.
Faced with the torrent of bullets pouring down like rain, Aristo did not flinch or dodge. He stood there, indifferent, as the hailstorm of bullets rained upon his formidable...
"Puff puff puff!"
In an instant, blood splattered everywhere.
