In the desert.
Nami held her Clima-Tact, a slight smile on her face as she faced Mr. 1 and the others, who stood with grim expressions.
Nojiko, gripping her rifle, also smiled calmly. Smoke still trailed from the barrel of her gun.
Beside them stood Kaya, her angelic face solemn, while Vivi and Tashigi stood behind, both wearing serious expressions as they faced Mr. 1 and his companions.
"You're from the Entei Pirates… and you must be Princess Vivi, right?" Mr. 1 remarked, his deep voice echoing as he took in their faces and the Entei Pirates' tattoos on Nami and Nojiko's arms.
"What a precise shot," Mr. 1 continued, his gaze settling on Nojiko's rifle. He was impressed—it had taken just one shot from across the carriage to kill Mr. 4.
Nojiko merely smiled. If it weren't for Nami's mirage fading after the attack, she would have likely taken down more of them by now.
"You… you killed Mr. 4! You bastards!" Miss Merry Christmas screamed, her plump face flushed with rage.
"It looks like we can finish you off here," Miss Doublefinger said with a dark smile.
"An ambush? How bold! Let's make this a real fight!" Bon Clay cried out, taking his fighting stance.
"I'm surprised you dared to ambush us. Where's Portgas D. Ace?" Mr. 1 surveyed the area, searching for the man with the 85-million bounty but finding no trace of him. He frowned.
"We won't need Captain Ace to deal with the likes of you," Nojiko said lightly as she reloaded her rifle.
"Scatter!" Mr. 1 ordered, immediately on high alert as Nojiko prepared to fire again. The others—Bon Clay, Miss Doublefinger, and Miss Merry Christmas—quickly took cover, still haunted by how Mr. 4 had been taken down.
"Bang!"
A gunshot rang out.
"Slice Dice!"
Mr. 1's fingers transformed into blades, and with swift precision, he deflected the bullet. However, he looked down in shock. Blood trickled from his hand, which had been grazed by the bullet.
Impossible! Mr. 1 thought. As a blade man with the power of the Dice-Dice Fruit, his body was as sharp and unbreakable as a sword. Bullets should have bounced off harmlessly, just like artillery shells.
"Be careful! Something's wrong with this woman's bullets!" Mr. 1 shouted to the others, crossing his bladed arms defensively. Then, without warning, he charged at Nojiko. He couldn't let her fire again.
"Clang!"
Tashigi's sword met Mr. 1's blades in a sharp clash.
"Tashigi?" Nami, Kaya, and Vivi stared, stunned. This was the first time Tashigi had drawn her sword since joining them.
"Tashigi..." Vivi whispered, her expression conflicted. She knew Tashigi's story all too well—a Marine who had once hesitated to fully align herself with the Entei Pirates. But now...
"You're harming the people of Alabasta!" Tashigi declared, her face once innocent and sweet, now filled with anger and determination.
On their journey, they had passed through several cities ravaged by Crocodile's schemes. The towns were dry, without water, and the people lived in fear, torn between the rebels and the royal army, all orchestrated by Crocodile. Neither the government nor the Marines had intervened—all because Crocodile was one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea.
Can this really be called justice? Tashigi had asked herself.
Meanwhile, Ace and the others were working to save the people of Alabasta. They had rescued Laboon, escorted Vivi, and now they were here, facing the horrors Crocodile had wrought.
In that moment, Tashigi made up her mind.
"True justice, whether from a pirate or a Marine, is for the people!" she shouted, her sword slicing through the air with conviction.
"Clang!"
Mr. 1 sneered, catching Tashigi's blade with his own. "Idiot. I'm made of steel. Your sword is useless against me."
"Nojiko!" Kaya called out, seeing her companion in danger, but she barely had time to react before a fierce wind whooshed toward her.
"Whoosh!"
Nojiko's Observation Haki alerted her to the incoming attack, and she jumped back just in time to avoid it.
"You dodged my Okama Swan Dash? Not bad!" Bon Clay cackled, contorting his body in bizarre ways as he launched his attacks.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Nojiko fired several more shots, but Bon Clay's flexible, dance-like movements evaded every bullet.
"Damn it," Nojiko muttered, growing serious. His body was so unnaturally agile that even with Observation Haki, she struggled to predict his movements.
"Okama Kenpo! Swan Arabesque!" Bon Clay laughed maniacally as he continued to twist and spin toward her.
Nojiko remained focused, using her Haki to track his erratic movements. Though she could predict his final attacks, it was nearly impossible to line up another shot.
"Nojiko!" Nami called out, ready to help, but she was quickly blocked by Miss Doublefinger, whose thorn-covered fingers lashed out toward her.
"Whoosh!"
Nami deftly used her Clima-Tact to deflect the thorny attack, but Miss Doublefinger merely smirked.
"You should worry about yourself, little girl," Miss Doublefinger sneered.
Kaya stood nearby, her face determined. The battlefield had become a series of one-on-one duels, each of her friends facing their own fight.
"Shave!"
"Whoosh!"
Suddenly, Kaya vanished, narrowly avoiding an attack that left a gaping hole in the ground where she had stood.
"You little brat! You should've just let me pierce you!" Miss Merry Christmas snarled in her strange accent, emerging from the ground like a mole.
Kaya reappeared a short distance away, her expression calm as she raised her hand, preparing for her own battle.
With the battlefield split into four distinct fights, Vivi stood by helplessly, biting her lip in frustration. Nami, Nojiko, Kaya, and Tashigi were all fighting for her and her country Alabasta, yet all she could do was watch.
Vivi glanced at her hands, her eyes filled with determination. Was she truly so weak that she could only stand by and do nothing?
——
"Dammit!"
Nojiko's shout echoed, startling Vivi.
Bang!
Bon Clay twisted his body into a bizarre posture and kicked the handle of Nojiko's gun.
"Strange, isn't it? You can predict my moves, but your body just can't keep up, right? I'm so envious of myself for having such a flexible, well-trained body! Hayaa!"
Bon Clay laughed maniacally.
Nojiko stayed silent, trying to retrieve her gun that had been kicked away.
"Don't even think about it! Okama Kenpo: Gorgeous Swan Dance!"
With a strange cry, Bon Clay charged and delivered a powerful kick towards Nojiko.
"Peacock Sting!"
Whoosh!
The whirling peacock-shaped blade darted toward Bon Clay, who screamed in surprise as he twisted his body to evade the attack.
"Vivi! Be careful! He's stronger than you think, you—"
"Nojiko."
Before Nojiko could finish, Vivi interrupted.
"I know I'm weak, and I might not even be able to resist him... but, we're companions, aren't we?"
With a firm resolve, Vivi twirled her peacock blade, her face filled with determination.
Vivi lunged, controlling the Peacock Sting and attacking Bon Clay.
"Yao! Such touching friendship!" Bon Clay dodged, tears streaming down his face as he evaded Vivi's strikes effortlessly.
"Dammit! Why can't I hit him?"
Vivi gritted her teeth in frustration as Bon Clay easily slipped past her attacks.
"But still, for the sake of the mission, I'm afraid you have to die."
Bon Clay grinned darkly, dodging her strikes as his confidence grew.
"Vivi, move!"
Bang!
A gunshot rang out with Nojiko's shout. Although Bon Clay narrowly dodged it, his elaborate dance outfit was pierced by the bullet.
"Nice one, Vivi! You slowed him down enough for me. All I need is one good shot."
Nojiko flashed a thumbs up with a grin.
"Right!"
Vivi nodded, thrilled that she could help her comrades.
"Grrr! How dare you ruin my precious swan costume!"
Bon Clay, now enraged, placed the swan decorations from his head onto his feet. The swan beaks glinted menacingly.
"Prepare to be skewered by my swans!"
Bon Clay roared, kicking towards Vivi.
Whoosh!
The air whistled, signaling the deadly sharpness of the swan beaks.
Bang!
Another gunshot rang out from Nojiko, forcing Bon Clay to twist out of harm's way again.
"Argh! You're so annoying!"
Bon Clay glared at Nojiko in frustration. Her precision and ability to predict his moves were proving troublesome.
"I just need a single opening!"
Vivi cried out as she threw her peacock blade again.
Bang!
"Nojiko!"
Vivi collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
In her blurry vision, she saw Bon Clay laughing maniacally. He was about to strike the final blow.
"Why... why am I so weak?"
Tears streamed down Vivi's face. She could see Bon Clay's swan beak coming down towards her.
"Maybe it would be a relief to die here... but..."
Vivi's hand instinctively reached for the charm Ace had given her before they set out for Rainbase.
"Ace... I never even told you..."
In that instant, the charm around Vivi's neck began to glow.
"What?! That light is blinding!"
Bon Clay shielded his eyes.
"Vivi."
In front of her, Ace's warm smile appeared.
"Am... am I hallucinating?" Vivi murmured, gazing at Ace.
"Are you willing to give up? Do you want to get stronger?"
Ace asked gently, still smiling.
Vivi was silent, but then, with tears in her eyes, she shouted from the depths of her soul:
"I don't want to give up! I want to become stronger! I don't want to die here! I still... I still want to..."
Tears fell from her eyes as she continued:
"I still want to see you again, Ace!"
Ace extended his hand to her.
"Then, take my hand."
Without hesitation, Vivi grasped Ace's hand.
Buzz!
A strange light enveloped her entire body.
"This... this is...!" Nojiko gasped in astonishment.
"Ace's... light domain," she whispered, unconsciously touching the charm Ace had given her. The charms he gave to each of them were meant to protect them, even in his absence.
"Even when you're not with us, Ace, you're still watching over us," Nojiko murmured, smiling fondly as she gripped her charm.
"What's happening!"
Bon Clay, still rubbing his eyes, looked at Vivi in shock. She was now glowing with a mysterious light, her expression one of confidence and strength—completely different from the insecure girl she had been moments ago.
"You think a fancy light show will scare me?! Die! Okama Kenpo: Exploding Swan Dance!"
Bon Clay leaped high into the air, gathering his strength in his swan-adorned feet before kicking towards Vivi.
Whoosh!
But Vivi's body moved fluidly, dodging his attack at the last second.
"What?!"
Bon Clay's swan beak pierced deep into the ground, leaving a crack behind.
And then, the peacock blade, which he had dismissed earlier, seemed to come to life. It twisted through the air, coiling towards him like a serpent.
"Okama Kenpo: Memoirs of That Summer!"
Bon Clay screamed, spinning his body rapidly in an attempt to avoid it.
Shing!
But it was too late. The blade found its mark, stabbing him in the waist and throwing his movements off balance.
Bang!
Another gunshot rang out.
Pffft!
Blood blossomed from Bon Clay's chest.
Thud!
He collapsed to the ground, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.
"A... a truly magnificent battle."
Bon Clay raised his head weakly, looking at Vivi and Nojiko with a smile before falling silent.
"Vivi! You did it!"
Nojiko ran over to Vivi, praising her.
"Nojiko..." Vivi said quietly.
"What is it?" Nojiko asked, puzzled.
"Can you... give me a tattoo, too?" Vivi pointed to the Entei pirate flag on Nojiko's arm and smiled warmly.
"Of course! Welcome aboard, Vivi."
Nojiko embraced her.
"Ace... as long as you're here, even someone like me can accomplish anything."
Vivi looked up at the sky and smiled softly.
