Chapter 12: The Pirate Hunter’s Counterattack
In the blink of an eye, two days had passed.
"We've been sailing for two days already, but according to the map, we should be heading toward the Grand Line. Why haven't we seen any of the iconic islands yet?"
Standing on the deck, Ye Jia scratched his head in confusion, holding a map. Despite being confident in his strength, he had to admit that when it came to navigation, he was a complete idiot.
Even with a marked map, Ye Jia couldn't figure out where he was.
"Navigation is such a brain-wracking job!"
Lying flat on the deck, Ye Jia sighed helplessly. "When will I find a navigator like Nami for my crew, just like Luffy did?"
Luffy, as a captain, apart from causing trouble everywhere and having some strength, was basically a navigation idiot! Yet, it was because of his great companions that he could keep moving forward.
Currently, Ye Jia was all alone. At this rate, who knew when he'd reach the Grand Line? Catching up with Luffy, entering the New World, and confronting the Four Emperors seemed like a distant dream!
"A navigator... Where's my navigator?"
Just then—
Biu!
A black cannonball tore through the sky, flying straight toward the Death God ship.
"What's going on?"
Hearing the sound, Ye Jia got up, immediately spotting a cannonball hurtling toward him in mid-air!
"Enemy attack!" The two words flashed through Ye Jia's mind instantly.
In this pirate-infested sea, it wasn't unusual for pirates to fight over treasures.
"Someone dares to attack me? Are they tired of living?"
But the fact that someone dared to target him made Ye Jia furious. "Perfect! If there's a navigator on the enemy ship, I can grab one!"
With a glint of sharpness in his eyes, Ye Jia stretched out his hand. His high-speed vision quickly locked onto the trajectory of the cannonball.
Whoosh!
A laser beam shot out, moving at the speed of light, instantly piercing and detonating the cannonball.
A deafening explosion shook the area around the Death God ship, causing the vessel to sway slightly.
"There you are."
Soon, Ye Jia spotted a pirate ship in the distance, its side turned toward him, cannons aimed in his direction.
Another round of cannon fire roared as over a dozen black cannonballs arced through the sky, heading toward Ye Jia.
"Wait for me. I'm coming!"
With a bloodthirsty grin, Ye Jia's figure disappeared in a flash.
A yellow beam of light streaked across the ocean, rapidly closing in on the pirate ship.
"Fire! Fire! Aim properly and take down that ship!"
The captain of the pirate ship, a one-eyed man wearing a black eyepatch, waved a massive machete toward the Death God ship and roared commands.
"Haha, Captain, today is truly our lucky day! We just ransacked a village, and now we come across a big catch... Look at that pirate ship! It's worth at least a million berries. There must be tons of treasures aboard!"
The crewman manning the wheel was ecstatic.
"That village was too poor. We couldn't even scrape together a million berries. But those women... hehe. Once we take this ship, we'll enjoy both the treasures and the women!"
The one-eyed captain laughed heartily.
If Scar Walker or Evil Tooth Garcia were here, they would immediately recognize the one-eyed captain as a notorious figure on Pirate Street—the pirate One-Eyed Barion, with a bounty of 26 million berries!
Barion was infamous across Pirate Street. In the waters near the Goa Kingdom, he ruled with an iron fist. His bounty of 26 million berries was a testament to his strength and ruthlessness.
Even Scar Walker and Evil Tooth Garcia had to bow before One-Eyed Barion.
Earlier, Barion had ransacked a nearby village. Frustrated by the lack of wealth, he slaughtered all the men, abducted the women onto his ship, and burned the village to the ground.
As he was about to enjoy his spoils, his crew reported spotting a valuable pirate ship.
The ship, unassociated with any known pirate crew, was clearly an outsider.
This was Barion's territory, and he wouldn't let intruders off so easily. He immediately ordered his crew to fire on the ship to seize it and make up for the day's losses.
"Captain! A yellow flash is rapidly approaching us!"
The lookout crewman, peering through his telescope, spotted a yellow beam of light heading straight for their ship.
"A yellow flash?"
Barion frowned in confusion.
"It's me."
Suddenly, a voice came from behind them.
Barion and his crew spun around in shock, seeing a teenage boy, no older than fifteen or sixteen, casually lying on the captain's chair, legs crossed.
"When did you get on board? How did no one notice?!"
The crewman stammered in disbelief.
The rest of the crew was equally stunned, unable to comprehend how a stranger had appeared on their ship without them noticing. If the boy had attacked from behind... the thought sent chills down their spines.
Their shock didn't slow their reaction, though, as they quickly raised their guns to aim at the intruder.
"I just came on board with a simple whoosh, no special effects, no tricks. It's really that simple."
Ye Jia leaned back lazily, speaking nonchalantly.
"Kid, that's my seat!"
Barion growled, pulling out a chain with a spiked iron ball at the end—a long-range weapon resembling a meteor hammer.
"Is it? No wonder it's so comfortable."
Ye Jia nodded. "This tiger-skin chair is a nice touch. I should get one like this too. But hey, this seat is mine now."
"You insolent brat, die!"
Enraged, Barion swung his meteor hammer directly at Ye Jia.
This attack would've been too quick for ordinary people to dodge. With a bounty of 26 million berries, Barion's strength was no joke.
"One-Eyed Barion, bounty of 26 million. Unfortunately, I can't take your head to cash it in since we're at sea. It'll rot if left too long, so... you'll just have to die now!"
Ye Jia's figure suddenly vanished along with the tiger-skin chair.
The meteor hammer smashed into the deck, leaving a gaping hole.
"Huh? Where did he go?!"
Barion was stunned.
"Up here!"
The voice came from above.
Barion looked up, only to see the sole of a shoe rapidly growing larger in his vision.
Boom!
The deck shattered as Barion was sent crashing into the ship's interior.
