Chapter 9: The Reaper’s Hunt Begins
In the middle of the tavern, two pirates were locked in a fierce battle.
Both used every ounce of their strength and cunning, determined to kill the other.
However, their skills were evenly matched. Despite sustaining wounds over time, neither could gain the upper hand.
Eventually, one pirate made a fatal mistake. His opponent seized the opportunity and hacked off his arm in a single, decisive strike, ending the duel at last.
"Haha! Well done, Karlo! Come over and claim your reward!"
Scarface Walker laughed heartily, his mood soaring.
On the other side, Tooth-Fang Garcia's face darkened. When the defeated member approached him, Garcia drew a flintlock pistol and pulled the trigger without hesitation.
Bang!
A vibrant life ended instantly.
"How could my crew harbor such useless trash!" Garcia spat on the ground in disdain and holstered his pistol. "Get rid of his corpse!"
Killing someone in public.
If this had occurred in Central Street, it would have drawn swarms of soldiers.
But here in Pirate Street, it was just another ordinary day. No one cared about lives lost; such incidents were far too common.
The onlooking pirates even began mocking the defeated member. They only respected the strong—weaklings didn't deserve a shred of pity!
"For the first time, I truly understand the meaning of cruelty,"
Ye Jia muttered, sipping his drink quietly.
This was the real pirate world!
The depictions in anime were mere surface-level representations. Real pirates were ruthless and inhumane, treating lives as meaningless. It was no wonder they were despised by the world.
This was also why the Marines placed bounties on their heads.
In One Piece, Luffy never killed anyone—he either knocked his enemies unconscious or sent them flying. He always left his opponents alive.
But in the real pirate world, killing was more common than eating or drinking. It was practically as natural as breathing!
For the first time, Ye Jia felt fortunate to possess his powers.
"Walker, don't get too full of yourself. The next time we meet at sea, I'll show you why they call me 'Tooth-Fang!'" Garcia snorted coldly before waving his hand. "Today's been nothing but bad luck. Let's go!"
With that, he led his crew out of the tavern.
"It's time to cleanse some of the filth from this world,"
Ye Jia set down his glass, stood up, and followed them.
...
"Remember this: the next time you encounter Scarface Walker's crew, kill them without mercy. For every one of them you kill, I'll reward you with 100 gold coins!"
Tooth-Fang Garcia, always vengeful, had now deemed Scarface Walker's crew his mortal enemies.
Hearing about the bounty, his subordinates were filled with excitement.
"Is that so? Then you might as well hand over the reward to me right now,"
a sudden voice came from behind Garcia.
Garcia turned around and saw a figure in a black cloak. He frowned and snarled, "Who are you? Are you looking to make an enemy of Tooth-Fang's crew?"
"If that's how you see it, so be it. But I'd prefer you call me… 'Death!'"
"Death" was the name Ye Jia had chosen for himself—the name he would use to dominate the seas.
Wherever he went, Death would follow. Every evil pirate would fall before his "Reaper's Scythe."
"Such arrogance! Kill him! I'll have his head fed to the dogs!" Garcia roared.
His crew charged forward, weapons in hand.
"I have no interest in dealing with small fry. What I want…"
Before Ye Jia could finish his sentence, his figure vanished into thin air.
A yellow light suddenly appeared behind Garcia, and a foot was already raised.
"… is your head!"
Light-Speed Kick!
Boom!
Garcia's body, wrapped in a beam of yellow light, shot toward a wall, leaving a massive hole upon impact.
"At last, the Light-Speed Kick's effect is showing,"
Ye Jia admired his handiwork.
Previously, his Light-Speed Kick was merely a simple strike, but now it included residual laser effects, delivering a second wave of damage for devastating results.
With practice, he believed reaching Admiral Kizaru's level wouldn't be too difficult.
"Boss!"
Hearing the commotion, Garcia's subordinates turned to see their leader twitching on the ground, his body grotesquely deformed.
"And as for you all—you're better off dead."
Ye Jia raised his hand and fired over ten laser beams in quick succession. Each shot pierced through a subordinate's forehead, leaving a bloody hole.
In an instant, they all fell lifelessly to the ground.
The commotion caused by the fight sent the surrounding vendors fleeing. No one wanted to risk being caught in the crossfire.
Fights and killings were so common in Pirate Street that even the Goa Kingdom couldn't be bothered to intervene. This was a true lawless zone.
"Now, it's your turn. Let's see what kind of Devil Fruit fragment you'll drop,"
Ye Jia murmured, approaching Garcia's twitching body.
Light-Speed Punch!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Thousands of punches rained down in a single second, shattering every bone in Garcia's body.
The result? A string of delightful announcements echoed in Ye Jia's ears:
"Congratulations! You've obtained a fragment of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit!"
"Congratulations! You've obtained a fragment of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit!"
"…"
Ye Jia was ecstatic.
The Rumble-Rumble Fruit—another Logia type. How could he not be thrilled?
