As the end of the month assessment drew near, the new recruits' mental states grew increasingly tense, and the training load was noticeably increased.

Kuro's threats were indeed terrifying.

But for those new recruits who had been in the navy for more than three months, if they still couldn't pass the basic physical assessments, they might be discharged.

This was something they found even harder to accept.

Especially for many new recruits, joining the navy was a way to support their families, and becoming a regular third-class sailor was the only way to get paid.

The only ones who were less stressed were the fresh recruits who had just joined.

Assessment Day

At the new recruit training area, when they saw Loya heading towards the registration desk, the others exchanged glances, some even in disbelief.

It was only his first month!

"Loya, you're going to take the assessment?"

"Yeah."

Loya turned back to the other recruits, smiling as he encouraged them, "You guys hang in there too. Let's all become official sailors as soon as possible."

"Uh... we... hmm!"

The new recruits silently watched as Loya walked away.

So the gap really was this big.

But strangely, there was no bitterness like they had imagined.

The recruits exchanged a look and simultaneously gave a bitter smile.

When they first came, they had indeed been quite resistant to Loya, mostly out of jealousy, but as they spent time with him, the jealousy gradually turned into admiration.

They had watched Loya's effort and sweat every step of the way, and honestly, even now, they couldn't do it.

Damn it, he deserved to get stronger!

"Good luck, Loya!"

"Make sure you pass the assessment!"

"Show those arrogant old guys what the new recruits can do!"

The new recruits cupped their hands to their cheeks and shouted loudly towards Loya's back, attracting quite a bit of attention.

Loya didn't look back. He raised his hand, his index and middle fingers pressed together, gesturing as if to say he had heard them.

There was no way he was going to fail.

At the training grounds, most of the new recruits who would be taking the assessment had arrived—over twenty of them. When they saw Loya, they were a little surprised.

It was very rare for someone to join the assessment after only one month of training, but since it was Loya, it wasn't that surprising.

A week ago, Loya had caught up with their training progress.

This kid really works hard!

Loya stood next to Fullbody, his posture as straight as an arrow.

"Yo, Loya."

Fullbody didn't look at him, but his voice held a barely noticeable teasing tone.

"You were pretty cool just now."

"Eh, not bad."

Loya smiled.

After a month of hard training, it was finally time to face the results. This physical assessment wasn't just a test for him, it was also about his self-recognition.

He firmly believed that hard work could really make him stronger!

First Round: Military Posture for Half an Hour

A row of tables and chairs was set up in front of the military formation, and all the officers, including Colonel Rod, were present.

Not a single movement could escape their eyes.

The new recruit assessment was a big deal for the branch, and a good one too. The future core members of the branch would come from these new recruits.

Colonel Rod scanned the recruits with a smile. When he saw Fullbody, he paused slightly, then looked at Loya standing next to him.

His expression gradually became strange.

Three parts happiness, three parts admiration, three parts relief, and one part grinding teeth in frustration. It was like a pie chart.

"Morgan, is that the guy?"

"Yes."

Morgan replied with a muffled tone, his gaze puzzled as he looked at Loya.

Before coming, Colonel Rod had specifically asked him about the distribution of the new recruits' duties, especially the ones responsible for the top two floors of the tower.

He wasn't sure why.

"Mm, he's quite impressive."

Colonel Rod complimented subtly, but in his heart, he was cursing.

That damn kid!

For the past month, he had to climb two more flights of stairs just to use the bathroom, and he had no idea why the toilets were always scrubbed so clean.

There wasn't even a female soldier in the branch, everyone was just rough guys!

Fortunately, this kid was about to become an official sailor and wouldn't have to worry about these chores anymore. His miserable days were finally over.

"Make sure to take care of him during training."

"Understood!"

Morgan's expression changed slightly.

What did that mean? Was he supposed to keep an eye on Loya?

Did Loya offend the colonel?

It was possible. He had heard that lately, the colonel would specifically go to the lower floors of the tower to fight the sailors for the toilets.

It was probably because the ones upstairs weren't cleaned properly.

He got it now.

Still, even without the colonel's instructions, he would strictly supervise the new recruits, tolerating no shortcomings!

Half an hour passed quickly.

All the new recruits remained as still as statues, successfully completing the military posture assessment. If they couldn't even pass the first round, it would be a joke.

Next up, the running test!

Twenty laps, 10 kilometers. Completing it in 30 minutes was passing, and finishing in under 25 minutes was excellent.

"Start!"

With the order given, the new recruits immediately began running around the training grounds, and Loya took his place at the back of the group, gradually accelerating at his own pace.

When he first arrived, he had run 10 laps in 15 minutes with some of the other recruits. Given the average physical fitness of humans in this world, it was doable with some effort.

But running 20 laps in 30 minutes was a different story. Many of the veteran recruits, who had been training for three months, couldn't even manage that.

And this was just the beginning; there were still five or six more physical assessments. He had to conserve enough energy to pass them all.

A few minutes later...

"What's going on?"

While running, Loya suddenly felt a chill run through him, his hairs standing on end, as if a wild beast was watching him.

Loya quickly realized the cause.

Morgan!

The towering figure of Morgan, like a massive iron tower, stood beside him, running at the same pace. Each step left an imprint in the sand.

The sheer weight could crush someone!

Additionally, Loya couldn't shake the feeling that Morgan's attention was fixed on him. It was a little creepy.

"Glup!"

Loya swallowed.

During the running assessment, several lieutenants would run alongside the recruits to record their training conditions.

Loya hadn't expected to be singled out by Morgan.

"Ha~~" Loya adjusted his breath and pace, feeling the pressure of being watched by Morgan. There was no way he wouldn't feel stressed.

Even though Morgan was just a minor obstacle in the story, he would eventually become a leader in Branch 153, which spoke volumes about his strength.

Let's not forget, Morgan carried a giant axe, weighing at least a few hundred pounds, which Loya couldn't even lift.

Wait, the giant axe?

Loya glanced sideways at Morgan, his heart pounding once more.

Even with such a heavy weapon, Morgan was running smoothly without a drop of sweat.

So strong!

For the first time, Loya truly felt the power up close. Even when he saw Colonel Rod before, it didn't feel quite like this.

Morgan was the real deal—unshakable!

"Whoo~~"

Loya got excited.

Instinctively, he focused and began studying Morgan's running posture—how his feet hit the ground, the swing of his arms, his body's center of gravity, and most importantly, his breathing rhythm.

"Mm?"

Morgan had been watching Loya, and immediately noticed the change in him. A hint of surprise flashed in his eyes.

This kid... is he learning from me?
