One Piece: The Avengers

Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Battle

In the basement beneath the Tree of All-Knowing, Shanter had just burned all the documents about the historical text. Before he could come up with a way to hide the text, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the air.

"Hurry, there's a basement here. Send a few people to search it."

"Yes."

Without even needing to look, Shanter knew these were undoubtedly people from the 'Government.'

"We can't let them see the historical text!" Shanter thought to himself. "Otherwise, the entire Ohara will be flattened." Shanter had already learned everything from Sarong.

Although Shanter didn't particularly like the people of Ohara, after all, it was Robin's hometown. That alone was enough to make Shanter fight with everything he had.

"It seems like I'll have to kill them," Shanter muttered to himself. He was still new to assessing the situation, and with his limited understanding of his enemies' strength, his plan was simple and crude—almost no strategy at all.

A CP9 member was walking down the stairs when a gust of wind suddenly swept toward him. Looking carefully, it was a large bookshelf.

The CP9 agent quickly dodged, but at that moment, Shanter, hidden behind, delivered a heavy kick to his lower back, sending him stumbling and crashing to the floor.

The CP9 agent had indeed been careless. He hadn't expected an ambush in this basement and had fallen victim to a sneak attack.

Shanter, on the other hand, was even more astonished. He clearly knew the force of his kick, which was enough to kill a lion. Yet, the person before him only staggered a bit and fell, but was unharmed.

Of course, Shanter had no idea what CP9 was.

Although the CP9 agent wasn't seriously injured, he was furious. How embarrassing! A little brat managed to ambush me!

Shanter didn't give it much thought. Seeing his first strike fail, he quickly followed up with another attack, swinging his fist toward the CP9 agent's back.

"Iron Block!"

As Shanter's punch landed, it felt like hitting a steel plate—his fist recoiled painfully. Damn it, how is it so hard?

The punch was ineffective, and Shanter lost the initiative.

What Shanter didn't know was that the CP9 agent was also silently groaning in pain. Damn, this kid is strong!

The CP9 agent thought this while acting swiftly. He quickly turned around, and with his right hand, pointed a finger at Shanter's chest, thrusting it forward. "Finger Gun!" Not having permission to kill, the CP9 agent intentionally avoided targeting Shanter's heart.

Shanter instinctively sensed danger. Although the move seemed ordinary, the speed and power behind it were no joke. He leaned backward, barely evading the attack.

Seeing his first attempt fail, the CP9 agent quickly launched another "Finger Gun," this time aimed at Shanter's abdomen.

Shanter pushed off the ground with his legs, leaning his body back and retreating at high speed. The CP9 agent's strike landed on the floor instead.

"This…" Shanter stared at the smooth, roughly one-centimeter-deep hole in the ground, his heart shocked. He breathed a sigh of relief. Good thing I didn't block it head-on...

The CP9 agent pulled his finger out of the hole, while Shanter had already regained his footing and distanced himself, ready for another round.

How am I supposed to fight this? His offense and defense are both insane. I can only hope his speed isn't as fast as it looks, or I have no hope.

"Shave!"

Shanter's hope was quickly dashed as the CP9 agent appeared almost instantaneously in front of him.

But in the heat of battle, there was no room for hesitation. In the split second that Shanter froze, the CP9 agent thrust a "Finger Gun" toward Shanter's throat. Several failed attempts later, the CP9 agent was becoming increasingly embarrassed and began to harbor murderous intent.

Fortunately, Shanter's reflexes were exceptionally sharp. Though his mind went blank for a moment, his body instinctively reacted, allowing him to narrowly dodge the fatal strike.

However, it wasn't without cost. The "Finger Gun" grazed his shoulder, leaving a painful but shallow wound. Fortunately, it didn't affect his ability to move.

Now, Shanter didn't dare waste any more time. He circled around the bookshelf in the basement, trying to buy himself more time.

Raging Foot!

Shanter, sensing danger, didn't care about his style. He quickly dropped to the ground, and a massive wind blade sliced through the bookshelf as if it were tofu, splitting it in half.

"What's going on?" voices came from the stairwell above.

"No problem, just a pesky brat," the CP9 agent responded.

I really have no choice but to run now! Shanter wasn't foolish. If even one was this difficult, there were at least four or five more people coming from upstairs. How could he fight now?

The basement only had one stairway, but Shanter didn't hesitate. He dashed up the stairs. Fortunately, the people at the top hesitated for a moment when they saw someone running toward them. By the time they reacted, Shanter had already escaped the basement.

"Moonwalk!"

Shanter's heart sank as he watched the CP9 agent walk through the air as if walking on solid ground. This is bad.

The CP9 agent was equally frustrated, feeling his pride wounded. How could I not take down a little brat yet? They'll laugh at me when I get back!

Shanter had just jumped out of the window of the Tree of All-Knowing (the door was blocked) when another wind blade sliced through the window, cutting it in half.

Shanter ran ahead, with the CP9 agent hot on his heels. Shanter's speed was quite impressive, and relying on his knowledge of the terrain, he made sharp turns and zigzags. Despite the CP9 agent's efforts, he couldn't close the distance. Moreover, Shanter skillfully avoided the CP9 agent's long-range slashes—Raging Foot.

So, he has five techniques: the "Iron Block," which hardens the body to ignore damage, the piercing "Finger Gun," the long-range cutting "Raging Foot," high-speed "Shave," and the air-walking "Moonwalk." But I wonder if there are others? Shanter thought as he continued to run.

As the chase continued, Shanter realized just how much the power gap between them was. I'm only about two-thirds as fast as him, and my strength is barely half of his. Plus, he has these strange techniques. How do I even fight this? My only advantage seems to be my familiarity with the terrain!

But it seems like he can't use two techniques at once… Shanter quietly formed a plan in his mind.

What Shanter didn't know was that this CP9 agent was just an ordinary member, with a combat power of only a few hundred, nowhere near the level of the future Rob Lucci or other elite CP9 members.

The chase continued, and before long, they had entered a dense forest.

Raging Foot!

A gust of wind rushed at Shanter, who quickly dropped to the ground, doing a front flip, and then got back on his feet, continuing to run. The large tree beside him became a casualty of the attack.

This scene had played out five or six times already.

In this pursuit, Shanter finally noticed a "weakness"—when the CP9 agent used "Shave," he couldn't make turns. Of course, Shanter didn't know this was due to the CP9 agent's lack of mastery over the technique.

Each time the CP9 agent used "Shave," Shanter would make a sharp turn, using the moment of the CP9 agent's movement to extend the gap between them.

The forest grew denser, and the trees thicker. The wind blades from the CP9 agent's Raging Foot couldn't cut through the trunks anymore, only leaving deep scratches.

This is the spot.

Shanter suddenly stopped.

"Why aren't you running, brat? Ready to give up?" the CP9 agent taunted.

"Let's finish this here!" Shanter's hand brushed over the white jade pendant hanging around his neck, silently praying, "Father, Mother, please protect me."

Just then, Shanter instinctively reached up to adjust the nonexistent glasses on his face.
