Chapter 52 - The Guild's Name - 02

52: The Guild’s Name – 02

“If you dive into the tower with us as an explorer, you’ll earn enough money. But until then, I’ll lend you some.”

“Ow, ugh, you could spoil me a bit more…”

Misuzu rubbed her forehead while pouting about not getting spoiled. It’s tempting to indulge her, but that’s not right. Depending on someone else won’t lead to happiness.

True happiness comes from earning your money through your will and effort, which is why money becomes precious and valuable. Well, I do plan on helping her out until she can stand on her own.

“So, about the guild’s name…”

(There were a lot of opinions, but let’s keep it simple…)

Alchemy, exploration, adventure, purpose, family…

(Hmm…)

“I think ‘Mitsurugi Family’ is good too…”

“Right? See, Reina agrees!”

Unexpected support came from Reina.

“Can I ask why?”

“This place feels warm. I think what I lost is here.”

Mitsurugi Family.

In essence, it means family.

The four of us here help each other, support each other, and encourage each other. Kenya also thinks it would be great if we could build such a family-like relationship.

“…Isn’t it nice? It’s simple, but it feels warm.”

“Okay… Got it! Let’s decide on ‘Mitsurugi Family’ for the guild name.”

“If Kenya decided, I have no objections.”

“Agreed!”

“It sounds cool, like a mafia family! The word ‘Family’ fits!”

It was decided unanimously.

And so, the guild Mitsurugi Family was born.

Misuzu, who was abandoned by her parents.

Reina, who lost her parents.

Kenya and Nana, who lost their father and have a mother battling illness.

It’s a strange relationship, but they all wish to become like a family. That’s the sentiment behind the name.

Thus, the guild Mitsurugi Family was born. Right now, it’s just Reina, Misuzu, and me as the explorers.

Then, Nana, as if she had made up her mind, spoke up.

“Hey, big brother. I want to help with your guild. I want to handle the guild’s chores.”

“Nana, you don’t have to help.”

“No, I want to. That’s why I’m studying bookkeeping, taxes, and all about guilds!”

Nana stood up and showed me her study guide.

The title was Even a Monkey Can Understand! Become a Guild Manager!

Nana didn’t get a profession. And she said she was too scared to become an explorer, so I didn’t invite her to join the guild, but I didn’t know she felt this way.

“I see… It’s tough work, though. I didn’t understand any of it myself.”

(Taxes, tax returns—honestly, I didn’t get any of it.)

“I’ve been keeping this household’s budget in check, so I’ll be fine! So please let me handle the management of the Mitsurugi Family! I’ll work hard! I’ll study a lot! It’s the only way I can help…”

What a good kid.

Kenya felt like he might cry tears of joy but held back and responded to Nana.

“Alright! Then I’ll leave the finances and management of the guild to you, Nana! But I’ll help with whatever I can!”

“Really!? Yes! I got a job!”

Nana jumped up and down, clutching her study guide.

A guild is essentially a company, meaning it’s a legal entity, so taxes, tax returns, and other complicated matters come with it. If Nana is willing to take on those responsibilities, there’s no one more reliable.

I’ll let it slide if she skims a little off the top, though she would never do that.

“So, it’s settled. The members of Mitsurugi Family are the four of us.”

“Let’s do our best, everyone! Our goal is to reach the highest level! Let’s surpass the strongest guild, Evening Star!”

“Yeah!!”

And so, the four-member guild Mitsurugi Family—comprised of a hero, an alchemist, a supporter, and a manager (my little sister)—was born.

This guild’s goal is the top of the tower.

What lies there? Maybe nothing, or perhaps it doesn’t exist at all.

No one knows.

And that’s what makes it exciting, what makes my heart race.

The thrill of being the first in the world to achieve something—that’s what makes it so exhilarating.

“Alright, let me announce Mitsurugi Family’s first job!”
