Chapter 256: Chapter 256- Escape
Sera Masumi and Conan immediately became alert when they saw Kaitou Kid's smile.
They then watched as Kaitou Kid pulled out a diamond knife, opened the glass display, and made his escape.
Kaitou Kid's behavior left both Sera Masumi and Conan surprised.
Just moments ago, he had confidently refuted their words, claiming this might not be his defeat. And now, he was suddenly making a run for it?
What was going on?
"This could be a trap set by Kaitou Kid. Apart from the Scarlet Shadow Heart, there are no other gems in this exhibition. He will still have to come back for it," Conan reasoned. "We just need to stay here."
Sera Masumi nodded but glanced at the surrounding security staff, finding the situation somewhat strange.
"After all this commotion, why haven't any officers from the Second Investigative Division shown up here?" she wondered aloud.
"Maybe the large number of tourists in Area C is limiting their movements," Conan guessed.
The two returned to the Scarlet Shadow Heart's display room. After confirming that the display case and the gem inside were still intact, they felt relieved.
"Speaking of which, even if we weren't here, Kaitou Kid might not be able to steal the gem. His diamond knife can't penetrate this glass," Sera Masumi remarked as she lightly tapped the display case with her knuckles.
She had learned from Nakamori Ginzo that the glass used for the Scarlet Shadow Heart display was a combination of bulletproof glass and polycarbonate.
Diamond, with a Mohs hardness of 10, is one of the hardest natural materials. A knife made from it could easily cut through standard glass. However, it couldn't cut through the special glass used for the Scarlet Heart display case.
The bulletproof glass and polycarbonate had both impact resistance and flexibility. A diamond knife could only scratch the surface without cutting through.
"Unless Kaitou Kid knows the correct way to open the case, he won't be able to take the gem. Besides Masayuki Tsukino, who was arrested by the police, the only people who know how to open the case are Officer Nakamori and Mr. Tsukino."
"They're both very cautious, so it's impossible for them to share this information with Kaitou Kid," Sera Masumi continued.
Conan nodded. "Still, Kaitou Kid has plenty of tricks. We should focus on preventing him from getting close to the display case."
For now, their brief confrontation with Kaitou Kid hadn't caused any damage. The only loss seemed to be the glass panel he had broken to escape.
Conan and Sera Masumi left the display room again.
Moments later, an announcement rang out across the venue:
"Attention, visitors! Please ensure your safety. Kaitou Kid has been spotted in Area B!"
The announcement seemed to have been delayed. It was only after Kaitou Kid escaped that the broadcast was made, reporting his appearance in Area B.
"Uh-oh!" Conan's expression changed as he listened to the announcement.
Beside him, Sera Masumi also realized something was wrong.
The broadcast wasn't only directed at visitors in Area B; it could be heard in other areas too.
It was easy to imagine that the Kaitou Kid fans in Area C would now rush over to Area B, just as they had done earlier.
Within minutes of the announcement, Conan and Sera Masumi saw a large crowd of excited tourists rushing away.
"What is wrong with the venue's security? How could the same thing happen twice?" Conan exclaimed in disbelief.
Sera Masumi quickly instructed the venue staff to temporarily seal off the Scarlet Shadow Heart's display room and prohibit entry.

Meanwhile, Nakamori Ginzo of the Second Investigative Division noticed the unusual situation and rushed back toward Area C.
However, the overwhelming number of tourists in the venue significantly slowed down his movements and those of the officers accompanying him.
"Let me through! I'm a police officer! Let me through!" Nakamori Ginzo shouted as he pushed through the crowd, growing increasingly frustrated.
Finally, an announcement came over the venue: Kaitou Kid had been spotted in Area B.
"Damn it!" Nakamori Ginzo cursed loudly.
He finally understood Kaitou Kid's plan.
Kaitou Kid had staged the theft at the Yuehua Necklace collection in Area C while the Scarlet Shadow Heart room was closed at noon.
By disguising his voice, he had triggered a separate broadcast about the Dream Weaver gem in Area D, tricking the police into heading there.
Then, while the police were focused on Area D, he had gone for the Scarlet Shadow Heart.
When operating in Areas C or B, the number of tourists present had been relatively small. With just a few fake broadcasts, he had misled the police and manipulated the flow of tourists, significantly hindering law enforcement efforts.
"Damn it, I'll catch you, Kaitou Kid!" Nakamori Ginzo pushed forward furiously.
But as he neared the passage connecting Areas C and B, he suddenly felt someone cover his mouth and nose from behind.
Before Nakamori Ginzo could react, he felt his consciousness fading.
Kuroba Kaito, supporting the unconscious Nakamori Ginzo, dragged him out of the crowded venue and into a nearby restroom.
'Uncle, you're far too careless. You figured out that the Yuehua Necklace broadcast was fake, yet you fell for the Scarlet Shadow Heart broadcast so easily,' Kuroba Kaito thought.
Not long after, Kuroba Kaito, now disguised as Nakamori Ginzo and dressed in his uniform, glanced at the real Nakamori Ginzo, who was left in his underwear inside the small restroom stall.
'Sorry, Uncle, but I'm borrowing your uniform again.'
Leaving his original clothes next to Nakamori Ginzo, Kuroba Kaito climbed over the top of the restroom stall and disappeared.
