Pokemon Earth’s Parallel World: Dragon Trainer

Chapter 17 – Topic about Berries

"Well, it's not only that type of berry, you can also use others like this," Floyd showed other varieties of berries.

"Wow, I know that… that's Iyashi no Mi #2, oh that's Genki no Mi #1, and that's Gedoku no Mi #1," Kanraku identified each of them.

"You call them something weird, what is that 'no mi' thing, is this One Piece?" Floyd looked at him, feeling confused, and murmured something about his past.

"'No mi' means fruit… in our native language."

"So, that's it."

"What is One Piece?"

"Huh, nothing, I just heard it in some story." 'One Piece, hehe, my treasure? If you can find it, you can have it,' Floyd joked in his mind.

"By the way, I call it Lapapa Berry; it has a similar effect to Oran. This one is called Leppa Berry; it can restore stamina or energy in the body. This is Pecha Berry; it can detoxify poison."

"So, it can also be dried… to make it powder… with the same effect… as eating the berry?"

"Yes, the advantage of making it is the quantity is abundant and can be used anytime compared to the single-use effect of the berry, but the disadvantage is it takes a week to make it."

"Sugoi, so the drying process must be tough."

"Not really, just on the first day you need to fully dry it in the heat, preferably between 11 am – 2 pm. On the second day, use the same process and squeeze it a bit, but don't let the juice come out. On the third day, repeat the process, let the fruit stretch but don't flatten it thoroughly. For the remaining four days, just let them dry. But just a reminder, not all berries can produce powder."

"It's still tough. Floyd-san, you're really great."

"No, it was just a fluke, hahaha."

"Wait, by the way, I also have some here, look." Kanraku took out many berries, and to Floyd's shock, he had a vast number of them.

"You also have these! So many." Floyd looked at the countless Chilan Fruits in Kanraku's storage; he only had four of them when he stole some fruit. And they were only for Axew right now, but when Dratini grew up, this fruit would be a must because it had a strong normal type attribute and a similar flavor that Dratini liked.

"What? You know this…? I call it Futsu no Mi #8.

Floyd rolled his eyes and said, "I call that Chilan Fruit. It has two varieties; one is the yellow one here." He pointed out the yellow fruit and continued to explain, "Anyone who eats this fruit can lessen the damage received from attacks of the same type as the fruit."

"Wait… you mean… like this fruit?" Kanraku held up the blue fruit.

"That's Passho Berry, and anyone who eats this fruit can lessen the damage it received from the opponent's water type attack" Floyd introduced it.

"Types, I know that, and you mean fruits have the same type?" Kanraku asked.

"This is just my hypothesis that every beast seems to have different abilities based on their characteristics and their environment. For example, beasts with piscean characteristics living in water seem to have the ability to use water magic. Some beasts can control earth magic, and those with avian characteristics can use wind magic. I guess there are also some berries that can lessen the damage of the elements it receives, corresponding to the type of the fruit that was eaten. For example, if there's a fire beast and you eat berries that have a fire type, it can lessen the damage." Floyd explained one by one.

"Wow, is that what you meant?" Kanraku asked.

"Yes." Floyd nodded

"I haven't delved into that study. I will check again if your hypothesis is correct. And honestly, Floyd-san, you really surprise me. You see, I have also researched it, and here, I have confirmed six elemental types: Water, Earth, Plant, Air, Fire, and Electric… Currently, I'm studying Serpent, Space, and Ghost Beasts."

(AN: It really disturbs me every time I'm writing Kanraku's English dialogue, I will write it straight now. But anyway, the way Kanraku's speaking isn't fluent in English.)

'What does he mean by plant, air, space, and serpent? Does he mean Grass, Flying, Psychic, and Dragon?' Floyd thought

"It's just rare to see some space and ghost beasts, so my focus right now is on Serpent, but I am confused because not all Serpents are poisonous, while others have violent energy in their bodies."

'So, combining Poison Type and Dragon Type into one, huh?' Floyd shook his head but didn't correct him this time, as it would make others doubt his identity by questioning how he acquired such knowledge. In fact, he was already surprised by this guy's extensive understanding of Pokémon. It seemed that he had really dedicated his life to studying all types related to Pokémon; otherwise, how could he know so much about berries and the different Pokémon types? Floyd could genuinely sense Kanraku's deep love for Pokémon. Floyd knew that if he hadn't known about Pokémon in his previous lives, he might not have acted the same way, and perhaps he might have been like others who disliked Pokémon. Consequently, his respect for Kanraku increased.

"Ahem, I don't know many types. I only know Water, Fire, Grass, Flying, and Normal currently, and I have assumed this with no factual basis, unlike you." Floyd starts pretending that he just know a bit

"Back to the topic, about the Chilan Berry, there's another variation related to the flavor of berries. Each Pokémon has different preferences of flavor—Spicy, Sour, Bitter, Sweet, and Dry. And each berry also has different types and flavors needed for something I call 'Pokéblocks'." Floyd explained.

"Flavor…? Pokéblocks…? Floyd-san, you really know a lot about berries, can you tell me more about it?" Kanraku was surprised; Floyd seemed to have extensive knowledge about berries. He had thought berries were just fruits that could be eaten and some had magical effects but didn't expect that they had many uses—like drying berries for powder, the hypothesis that berries have different type attributes like beasts, and even terms like 'flavor' and 'Pokéblocks' that he hadn't known.

"Of course, berries are my expertise. You can best me in other aspects, but when it comes to berries, I can proudly say, I'm the strongest. As for flavor and Pokéblocks…" Floyd said proudly.

"Uh-uhm, Professor…"

Floyd did not continue what he was saying when Suzuki Akiko interrupted.

"Eh, Suzuki-san?" Kanraku, engrossed in the topic, snapped back and looked at Suzuki.

"We still have something to do, about the arrangement for the beasts, and also the plan for them. They are the last group." Suzuki felt wronged as she interrupted them, but if she didn't stop them, their talk might be endless until midnight.

"Eh, what time is it right now?" Kanraku checked his watch and saw it was 7:30 pm.

"Ahahaha, it's been too long, hahaha! I'm sorry everyone, my fault. I'm sorry I took most of your time, Floyd-san. I've really learned a lot from you. I hope it doesn't trouble you." Kanraku smiled embarrassingly as he patted his head and laughed.

"No, actually it doesn't matter. As long as it helps you, it's not comparable to the fact that you saved me. I really owe you a lot." Floyd just shook his head.

"No, don't talk about that thing now, it's nothing. You've really taught me a lot. I hope when I come to you later, you won't reject this old guy, hahaha!" Kanraku patted his shoulder and laughed.

"I don't mind." Floyd shook his head.

As for the other Pokémon and the people present, you could see their bewildered expressions as they watched Floyd and Kanraku's conversation earlier.
