Chapter 44: ch41
Time flies. In the blink of an eye, three days passed.
Alex wore the exploration suit equipped by the system, which automatically cleans and changes color, keeping him spotless even after days in the wild. As for Alex himself, he could find a puddle or pool to take a quick bath, avoiding any unpleasant odors.
Alex returned to the original location where Larvitar was left. He found some dry firewood, set up a simple rack, and handed over the barbecue task to Charmeleon. With its fire abilities, Charmeleon was a natural choice for grill duty. In this summer heat, Alex dared not get too close to the barbecue himself.
Charmeleon was the perfect grill master. Over the past three days, Alex had made significant progress. Charmeleon reached level 30, and Riolu reached level 25. Both Pokémon were nearing their evolution levels and would likely evolve within two weeks.
Additionally, Alex found three evolution stones, some rare berries, and a ground treasure—Soft Sand!
---
**[Soft Sand]**
- **Use:** Sand with a fine texture. When held, it increases the power of Ground-type moves.
---
Soft Sand, which in games can only be held, can be consumed in the real world. When a Ground-type Pokémon eats Soft Sand, its Ground-type power is enhanced. This purifies and boosts the purity of the attribute power within the Pokémon.
"When Larvitar breaks through the ground, feeding it Soft Sand might help it cocoon," Alex thought. However, Larvitar's evolution requires level 30. Alex doubted Larvitar could gain more than ten levels just by eating dirt, but with the experience multiplier, his chances would be much better.
"It should be a few hours before Larvitar breaks through the ground," Alex speculated.
According to Rhydon's reports, Larvitar had been working diligently, persistently eating dirt and digging through half the mountain. It had only a few dozen meters left to reach the surface.
Alex returned just in time to welcome the transformed Larvitar. Additionally, he captured three Shiny Pokémon this time. Although he didn't capture as many as in the redwood forest secret realm, Alex was pleased.
A Shiny Pokémon could easily fetch millions. Furthermore, Alex captured an especially promising Shiny Pokémon—a Shiny Magikarp! He still remembered that Lance, the Elite Trainer, had a red Gyarados. Despite its name, Gyarados wasn't a Dragon-type.
Gyarados was only given the Dark-type upon Mega Evolution because it looked pitiful to the authorities, not a Dragon-type. This undervalued the "dragon" in Gyarados' name.
The Shiny Magikarp Alex captured was a Gold Magikarp. It wasn't just a bonus or a painted version—it was pure gold.
"If the color remains unchanged after evolution, it'll be a true golden Gyarados! That look, that sense of oppression, the pure golden holy dragon!" Alex envisioned.
Alex wasn't planning to sell this Shiny Magikarp. He intended to train it himself. The Water Lord position would finally be filled. Among Water-types, Gyarados' output is strong, especially the Mega-evolved Gyarados with its wide Dark-type attacks. It was even more powerful and intimidating than some of the Water-type starter Pokémon.
Originally, Alex had several starter candidates to choose from: Blastoise, Greninja, even Swampert, and Milotic. But since Gyarados came first, he decided to train Gyarados for now.
"After becoming a gym-level Trainer, I can go to the Breeder House to buy starter Pokémon," Alex noted. Currently, he was saddened by the restrictions. Despite having money, he couldn't buy starter Pokémon on his own. The Dragon Kingdom tightly controlled this, requiring Trainers to reach the gym level to purchase starter Pokémon without paying a premium.
Alex didn't want to pay extra, especially since he already had three Pokémon he wanted to train. The plan to buy another starter was postponed for now.
Besides the Shiny Magikarp, the other two Shiny Pokémon Alex captured were a Shiny Oddish and a Shiny Meowth. Though not very rare, they were in good condition.
Oddish had a hint of pink, and Meowth was silver. Alex decided to bind a seller account so he could list products anytime and set his own prices, avoiding underpricing.
However, when Alex tried to register a merchant account in the Pokémon app's product area, he discovered he needed a professional trainer qualification certificate!
"Really?" Alex was frustrated. He hadn't obtained his professional trainer certificate yet, and the next exam was in November.
"I'll have to wait until I pass the exam to apply for an account," Alex sighed, deciding to put it aside for now. Shiny Pokémon wouldn't lose value if kept at home. In the meantime, he could feed them some treats.
"Roar!" Charmeleon announced the barbecue was ready. It presented a large skewer of grilled meat, juicy and brightly colored, looking especially delicious.
The aroma was tantalizing, and Alex's appetite grew.
"Not bad," Alex praised Charmeleon with a smile. "I didn't know you had this skill!"
Alex grabbed a skewer of barbecue. It was flavorful and delicious. After days of fast food, enjoying a good meal whetted his appetite.
He also grabbed a few bottles of cold Coca-Cola from a nearby river. Although not iced, it was still refreshing.
"Ah, refreshing," Alex said, enjoying the meal with Charmeleon, Riolu, and Jirachi. Suddenly, there was movement from the ground, drawing closer.
"It's coming!" Alex's eyes lit up. This was Larvitar breaking through to the surface!
