The evolutionary stones on the market are generally priced between 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 Pokédollars, yet they remain rare and hard to acquire.
So far, eight types of evolutionary stones have been discovered in reality: Fire Stone, Thunder Stone, Water Stone, Leaf Stone, Moon Stone, Sun Stone, Shiny Stone, Dusk Stone, and Ice Stone, corresponding to nine Pokémon types.
But Jack knows there should be another stone—the Dawn Stone. For some reason, while the other nine stones have been discovered and successfully used for Pokémon evolution, no one has ever reported finding the Dawn Stone.
The Leaf Stone in Jack's possession corresponds to Grass-type Pokémon, but not all Grass-types can use it to evolve.
Typically, Pokémon evolve upon reaching a certain level when their abilities reach a critical threshold, prompting evolution. However, some Pokémon require specific items to evolve, even if they meet all other conditions.
A prime example is Eevee. Most of its evolutions require special conditions, such as the Leaf Stone Jack holds, which allows Eevee to evolve into Leafeon.
Jack hadn't expected such a significant gift from Ariados. He considered the Pokémon that require a Leaf Stone to evolve and wondered if he might encounter them in the future.
Even if Jack didn't use it himself, he thought, the Leaf Stone could be sold or traded for other valuable items.
"Great work, Ariados."
"Ariados!" Ariados responded cheerfully.
"Oh, by the way, Ariados, let me introduce you to Psyduck. We're partners from now on."
Jack suddenly remembered he hadn't formally introduced his two Pokémon. He pointed to Psyduck as he spoke to Ariados.
"Psyduck!" Psyduck greeted eagerly.
Ariados responded amicably. After their earlier collaboration against Spinarak, Ariados respected Psyduck's strength.
By this point, it was around 5:00 PM. Jack looked around and noticed a faint mist settling in the air. Although it didn't obstruct visibility yet, it was unusual. Normally, mist began forming around 8:00 or 9:00 PM, but today it had arrived early.
Drawing on his experience in the Forest of Clouds and Mists, Jack recognized the need to quickly find a campsite and prepare for the night. Nights in the forest were always unpredictable.
Psyduck led the way, with Jack in the middle and Ariados following behind, forming a protective formation to guard against unexpected dangers.
After an hour or two of walking, Jack found a spot under a massive rock among the dense trees. He settled against it, holding a self-heating lunchbox, and kept watch as he ate. Psyduck and Ariados munched on standard energy cubes nearby.
The fog thickened steadily, and the sky grew darker than usual, significantly reducing visibility. Without shelter, remaining outdoors as the mist intensified would be dangerous.
After quickly finishing his meal and regaining his strength, Jack resumed the search for a safe place to sleep, hoping to secure shelter before nightfall.
Eventually, persistence paid off. Just as complete darkness set in, they discovered a wide cave that would serve as their overnight refuge. By then, the fog had thickened so much that visibility was reduced to just three to five meters.
The thick fog made wandering outside increasingly dangerous. Upon spotting the cave, Jack wasted no time and entered with Psyduck and Ariados.
Not long after, they were attacked by a Teddiursa. Jack's heart tightened at the sight of the Pokémon, knowing its evolution into Ursaring. If there was an Ursaring deeper inside the cave, things could get troublesome.
Ursaring, a Normal-type Pokémon, is known for its bad temper and formidable strength, with most Ursaring being at least professional level. Teddiursa typically needs to reach level 30 to evolve into Ursaring, which indicated the potential threat inside the cave.
Fortunately, the sudden battle ended quickly. Teddiursa was no match for Psyduck and Ariados, who worked together seamlessly. Ariados bound the defeated Teddiursa with spider silk and presented it to Jack.

Jack felt a flash of disappointment as he noted Teddiursa's 3-star aptitude. Ursaring is a popular choice among professional trainers due to its combat effectiveness, but a 3-star rating fell short of Jack's standards for cultivation. A 4-star Teddiursa might have been worth the effort, but this one didn't align with his aspirations.
However, the Leaf Stone in his possession gave Jack a boost of courage. His original goal for entering the Forest of Clouds and Mists was to capture a Pokémon, driven by both ambition and financial constraints. With Ariados already on his team, that goal was technically achieved. Yet, the addition of the Leaf Stone made Jack consider the possibility of finding another suitable Pokémon.
Even if he couldn't use the Leaf Stone now, selling it could provide financial relief. As for the Teddiursa, while it didn't meet Jack's criteria for training, it could still fetch a decent price.
"Psyduck!" Jack called out.
Psyduck, understanding Jack's intentions, fired a precise Water Gun, causing Teddiursa to faint completely. Without hesitation, Jack tossed a Poké Ball. After a few flashes of red light, the ball stilled, signaling a successful capture.
Though the Teddiursa's qualifications were less than ideal, Jack knew it would have value. He decided to bring it back for potential sale, recognizing the opportunity it represented despite not fitting his long-term plans.
