Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Finding a Master for You
Being in the wild, Rax Chand didn't have much time to think. As he ventured deeper into the rocky mountain, Onix's challenge had just begun.
Graveler, the evolved form of Geodude.
The original pair of hands had not disappeared. Instead, Graveler gained an additional pair of hands and legs, making its body larger and rounder.
Its standard weight skyrocketed from the original 20 kilograms to 100 kilograms!
As Graveler smirked confidently, Rax Chand and Cubone exchanged determined looks.
Battle!
Seeing Cubone unfazed by its appearance and even daring to challenge it, Graveler became furious.
"Graaa!"
Graveler stomped its feet angrily, curling up into a massive stone ball. With a red glow surrounding it, the rock-like Pokémon began rolling downhill towards them.
Rollout!
The classic combination move with Defense Curl doubled the power of Rollout, rivaling the strength of Cubone's Bone Club attack.
How could they block this?
"Cu... bone!"
Rax Chand suddenly shouted, locking eyes with Cubone in a moment of perfect understanding.
"Let's use that move!"
Cubone crouched low, white energy swirling around its body. It stared intently at the rolling Graveler.
Focus Energy!
A skill Cubone had instinctively learned while mastering Bone Boomerang.
With its concentration heightened to the maximum, time seemed to slow for Cubone. The only thing in focus was the approaching Graveler.
This was its chance!
Cubone hurled its bone club with precision, aiming not at Graveler but at a nearby boulder.
The boulder shattered, and the largest fragment fell directly into Graveler's path.
Graveler twisted its rolling body to avoid the obstacle but failed to notice the returning Bone Boomerang. It struck Graveler squarely, forcing it off balance and halting its roll.
Cubone didn't hesitate. With a second throw of the Bone Club, it landed another direct hit on Graveler's head.
Thud! Thud!
Two consecutive hits brought Graveler crashing to the ground, unable to move.
"Poké Ball, go!"
The red-and-white sphere struck Graveler, absorbing it in a flash of light. After a few tense moments, the ball clicked shut.
Cubone walked back to Rax Chand, breathing heavily but with a look of triumph.
"You were incredible!" Rax Chand praised.
Cubone crossed its arms, nodding coolly, though it couldn't hide its satisfaction.
However, its eyes soon drifted toward the Poké Ball.
Rax Chand chuckled. "I found a teacher for you. Graveler knows two moves that would suit you perfectly."
Cubone glanced skeptically at the ball.
Teach me to roll? it seemed to say. I'm not even round... how's that supposed to work?
After a brief rest, Rax Chand released Graveler, who glared at Cubone before reluctantly acknowledging its defeat.
Rax Chand extended a hand filled with Ground-type Pokéblocks. The enticing aroma caught Graveler's attention immediately.
"Go ahead. Try them out," Rax Chand said kindly.
Graveler hesitated for a moment before devouring one. The rich flavor and energy boost visibly rejuvenated it, even healing the dent in its head.
"Gravv..." Graveler grumbled, but the warmth in its gaze betrayed its growing respect.
"Can you show us your Smack Down and Stomp moves?" Rax Chand asked, offering more Pokéblocks as incentive.
Graveler happily obliged, demonstrating its skills with precision and power.
Cubone's eyes sparkled with determination. These were the moves it wanted to master.
Rax Chand grinned. "Graveler, can I ask you to train Cubone? I'll provide plenty of these treats, and once Cubone learns, you'll be free to go."
Graveler paused, considering the offer. Ultimately, the lure of Pokéblocks and its respect for Cubone's battle prowess swayed it.
"Graveler!" it agreed.
With Graveler as Cubone's mentor and the rocky terrain as their training ground, Rax Chand was confident that this partnership would take Cubone's skills to the next level.
