Chapter 38
Chapter
The auction house was quite spacious.
It seemed that the building wasn’t solely an auction house, as it was divided into multiple floors, and from the lobby on the first floor, you could clearly see the upper levels.
In a word, it was a fine establishment.
Just the chandelier adorning the ceiling looked expensive.
So where did all this money come from?
“Ultimately, filtering out is a must.”
To establish the principles of the world, an ideal structure must be introduced where superior Elves rule, and inferior Humans obey.
Those humans who run wild without understanding such obvious logic would need to be dealt with sooner or later.
[But isn’t Dad also a human?]
“He’s half Elf, so it’s fine.”
[That seems contradictory…]
“Enduring such contradictions is what racism is about.”
[Aha!]
After inquiring nearby, I found the auction house.
It was located in the basement. As soon as I opened the door and stepped inside, a vast space welcomed Enok.
‘Looks like it hasn’t started yet.’
I casually sat down in the back row and crossed my legs.
Elves would come out at the end of the auction.
I thought I’d catch some Zs in the meantime.
*
“Umm….”
The atmosphere felt oddly different even in my drowsiness.
Was it already time?
When Enok opened his eyes, the auctioneer was bursting with excitement, speaking rapidly.
“Now it’s time to finish our auction! I’m sure many of you are looking forward to this!”
Looking around, the number of people hadn’t changed much since the beginning.
There couldn’t possibly be this many wealthy folks.
Were they here just to watch, despite not having the money to buy?
Well, the onlookers weren’t my concern.
“This time! Our boss will introduce the product himself!”
The auction house fell silent in an instant.
Breaking the silence was the sound of footsteps—thud thud.
“Nice to meet you. As you all know, I am Adolf.”
The man who introduced himself as Adolf had a young appearance.
Except for his sharp gaze, he looked quite average for a thirty-something human male.
The only notable feature was the thick mustache grown in the center of his upper lip.
“An Elf. Perfect for use as a slave. They look shiny, are obedient, and hardly age.”
However, he had a presence that could silence everyone in the room.
With every word he uttered, the weight of his speech pressed down on the shoulders of the crowd.
“And today’s Elf on display is particularly special. She’s young and hasn’t even married yet.”
But did that heavy statement resonate with the hearts of the people?
Waaaaa─────!! Cheers erupted.
Adolf smiled with satisfaction and raised his hand.
Once again, the auction house fell silent.
He continued, “An unmarried Elf is a virgin. Unless she’s been previously enslaved, of course.”
Laughter erupted from the crowd.
Even Enok, who had been quietly observing, couldn’t help but agree with that statement.
In Elf society, rape is as rare as an extremely capable human, and since Elves only have one partner for life, it was safe to say they wouldn’t have an ex-lover.
It’s a race that would make unicorns go crazy with desire.
Well, even if they weren’t unicorns, it still held true.
One of the essential desires of those wanting Elf slaves was sexual in nature, and the word virgin made an already special Elf even more so.
“Bring her out.”
With Adolf’s single command, the curtain pointing to the back of the auction house parted.
And stepping forth was a bound female Elf.
Was she truly an Elf?
Even in her bound state, she was breathtakingly beautiful, causing the audience to gasp in awe.
Responding to such reactions, Adolf’s subordinates smirked and brought the Elf to the podium.
Well, they were supposed to.
“Arrogant.”
It wasn’t for Enok, who had suddenly appeared on stage.
“So arrogant. How dare you lay a hand on her?”
Whip-! With a brief flash of ki, the bodies of the two men reaching for the Elf exploded.
Literally shattered into pieces.
Splat-!
“Kyahhh…!!”
“M-murder…!”
The auction house erupted in chaos in an instant.
With the Elf behind him, Enok locked eyes with Adolf.
“You’ve rotted right from the root.”
“…Who do you think you are?”
Adolf struggled to suppress his rising fury.
He was angry for ruining an important auction, but the speed at which his opponent was moving proved that he wasn’t some incompetent fool.
“Disgusting and revolting. A lowly creature who doesn’t even know their place. Elves are not something you humans can touch.”
An Elf?
No, that ideology seemed a bit off.
He wasn’t some pathetic novice consumed by a ridiculous sense of justice, who rejected the existence of slavery.
Rather, one might say he was closer to a lunatic.
In that case, it was best to abandon any condescending thoughts and deal with him as quickly as possible.
Then the auction could resume shortly after, so it wouldn’t be a total loss.
“Adolf…! Just kill him!”
“Quickly, let’s finish him off so we can resume the auction!”
The crowd was now boldly cheering, whether out of confidence in their own strength or in Adolf’s.
Adolf smirked and raised his hand high.
“I’ll meet those expectations—”
Swish───────
A sharp sound reverberated.
Instantly reacting, Adolf swung his fist.
Crack-!
What caught his fist was a thread made of ki.
Realizing it, Adolf quickly turned his head toward the audience.
“No, don’t—!”
Swoosh────────
The range was too wide to block it all.
Though he was prepared for a surprise attack, he didn’t expect the targets to be his customers.
A painful miscalculation.
But Enok didn’t need to acknowledge that.
The result was gruesome.
“Hiiiii…!?”
“Gahhh…!”
Behind Adolf, that is, most of the seats except for the center.
The audience members seated there were neatly cut into pieces and slid down to the floor.
Enok, shaking off the ten strands of threads from his fingertips, nodded in satisfaction.
Three hundred unnecessary trash had just disappeared from the world.
“C-crazy…!”
“A murderer! A madman!”
“How could anyone with a human façade do such a thing…!”
As luck would have it, the audience members in the center who managed to remain alive began to scream and flee.
“Call the knights immediately!”
“Is there anyone connected to the lord here!”
Seeing the situation unfold, it was only a matter of time before the knights would arrive.
Enok gathered ki in his hand.
“Bind them, explode them. Burn them to death, even their corpses, tear them apart.”
Mad incantation.
Enok’s gaze turned toward Adolf, who was charging forward with rage in his eyes.
“You madman!”
Boom—! His fist was imbued with unmatched power.
Murky stars gathered in his ki, and the densely compressed force targeted Enok’s head.
Screech───────
Enok, bearing a halo above his head, hurled the orb in his hand.
The target was the fleeing audience.
In a panic, Adolf substituted his fist with magic.
Kabooom────────!!!
The fist and magic collided and erupted violently.
Furious, Adolf grabbed the magic and tore it apart, then charged right at Enok.
Clang, Enok drew his sword.
Purple ki enveloped the sword and shimmered like stars.
In no time, the fist and sword collided.
“Ugh….”
Boom—! Enok staggered back a few steps.
Adolf growled, shouting, “Kill this guy right now!”
His flustered subordinates snapped back to reality and started their attack.
In the meantime, they made sure not to let the attacks stray toward the trembling Elf behind them, but Adolf was different.
“Just ignore him and start firing since he’ll block it anyway!”
From foot to waist to fist.
The power transmitted like flowing water erupted at the tip of Adolf’s fist.
Boom────!
Once more, Enok blocked with his sword, clicking his tongue as he sheathed it back.
“…The sword is really cumbersome.”
Using an Elf’s sword to slay the Elf’s enemy.
Such a thought crossed his mind, but against an opponent like this, it didn’t seem like a viable option.
“Uh, um….”
“Hmm?”
“Shouldn’t we just run away for now?”
An unnamed Elf had pressed closely behind Enok.
With bombings happening all around, it was only natural to want to survive.
“Hmm.”
Enok felt a bit regretful personally.
Thinking about it, wasn’t today the first time he’d killed a human?
It seemed a pity to let such a monumental day pass so nonchalantly.
Boom boom boom—!
Deflecting all incoming attacks, Enok looked at Adolf.
That guy had the Elf behind him, making it difficult to win, and wasting time would mean the knights would join in, definitely putting him in trouble.
“Then, I’ll give you a gift. Something befitting.”
Enok bent his hand.
Adolf charged in, swinging his fist.
As he keenly watched, he pulled out his power.
Heavenly Carnage Thunder God Technique.
The matured martial arts were contained in the tips of his fingers.
Piercing Kill.
The piercing fingertips.
Adolf contorted his face and put everything into it.
Mein Kampf.
A volume containing the history of his struggle.
The gigantic force-laden fist clashed against the tip of Enok’s fingers.
Kabooooooom────────!!!!
The shockwave of the collision blew the auction house apart.
The audience seats were unrecognizable, and despite being located underground, the sky could be seen through the gaping hole in the ceiling.
“Cough…!”
Pushed back by the force, Enok coughed up a bit of blood, but flashed a smile.
“Bye-bye.”
The effect of the Heavenly Carnage Thunder God Technique.
The magic that activated alongside the deployment swept through the area.
It was a storm of lightning.
The widely spread ki only burned down Adolf’s subordinates, avoiding him.
“You bastard…!”
Adolf’s eyes went wild with rage; he was about to strike down Enok, but in the moment his gaze returned to his subordinates, Enok was already far away, cradling the Elf and fleeing.
“Gahhh…!!”
Furious, Adolf stomped the ground.
With that impact, the ground cracked and heaved.
But even doing that wouldn’t allow him to catch up to the fleeing Enok.
At this rate, it would be impossible for Adolf to pursue since Enok was too fast.
“You little rat!”
Adolf huffed, scanning his surroundings.
There were still quite a few subordinate survivors.
First, he needed to take care of them, then the best option would be to delay the knights that would come rushing in.
If he had his wits about him, the knights wouldn’t be reckless enough to rush in.
“Damn it! Who the hell was that guy?”
Was there anything that might serve as a clue?
As he recalled, a symbol engraved on the hilt of that guy’s sword flashed through Adolf’s mind.
‘It was definitely… the emblem of Estor.’
If that was the case, was he really an Elf?
Had he infiltrated the auction house to rescue his comrade?
At that moment, the events of the day replayed in his mind.
The voice of the Swordmaster ringing out amidst the scattered pieces of sky.
Her disciple.
Her secluded place nearby.
That guy’s ideology seemed too strange to be an Elf.
‘There’s no rule that the Swordmaster’s disciple has to be an Elf.’
While there might be a strange ideology even among Elves, gut feeling told him that guy was definitely not an Elf.
With Adolf quickly reaching that conclusion, his expression turned serious.
‘If that guy really is the Swordmaster’s disciple, things have escalated.’
If things went poorly, the Swordmaster might charge in tomorrow.
Then it would be a massacre.
“Damn it…!”
Adolf shouted to his remaining subordinates.
“Get the injured moved and treated, and release any unharmed to search for him! You! Contact the higher-ups right now!”
“B-but boss!”
“Shut up! There’s no time! We have to find him and kill him before the Swordmaster arrives!”
If they hadn’t touched anything before, it would be one thing, but now that they had, they had to deal with it properly.
Adolf’s eyes burned with intensity.
*
“Hmm.”
Standing atop a tall building, Enok gazed down at the city enveloped in the night’s darkness.
He had just killed a bunch of humans, but well, among the humans attending the auction, there probably weren’t any decent ones, so he thought Rionne wouldn’t be mad at him.
Though ideally, not being caught at all would be best.
“Hey, are you going to let me down now?”
Hearing a voice from his arms, Enok set down the Elf.
At the same time, he successfully located the traces of the tracking magic he had left behind.
“May the foolish humans face divine punishment.”
With an incantation, a thrill surged through his heart.
The wave inscribed specific laws upon the world, and soon, it came to pass as Enok wished, dropping lightning from the sky.
Crackling-!
As the signal of the tracking magic was severed with a flash of light in the distance, Enok grinned in satisfaction.
Having come to find a fairy under the moon, there had to be a limit to audacity as well.
“You, what kind of human are you?”
At the sharp voice, Enok turned his head.
The Elf was glaring at him.
“Are you perhaps a little crazy?”
“…….”
While the Elf had snapped at him energetically, when Enok stared deeply through the eye holes of his white mask, she flinched.
“Ah, um… thanks for saving me…but…”
“No matter how much of an Elf you are, I find it hard to let that insult pass.”
“Ah, well, even so, that’s just not right…! Is that something a sane person would do!?”
“I am not a human. I can be called half-Elf at best.”
With that unexpected statement, even in her state of deep fear, the Elf rolled her eyes in disbelief.
“What, what…?”
“Cancel out the word human.”
It seemed he truly had caught the attention of a mentally deranged human.
The Elf’s complexion turned pale.
