Rebirth of the Last Days: Double Pets

Chapter 71 - A Name Well Deserved

Hu Haotian directly took Luo Ziqiang and Yu Wanli to “request leave.”

The base staff naturally refused, but Hu Haotian didn’t waste any time. He slipped two packs of cigarettes to the staff member and successfully got his leave.

“Damn it, this ghostly base! If it weren’t for my family being here, I definitely wouldn’t have come!”

“I thought the first day wouldn’t be so chaotic…”

“Seriously, can they really rob people in broad daylight?”

“Just wait until I run into them alone; breaking a leg would be too light a punishment.”

The three of them cursed as they ran straight to their villa.

The base is expansive, and it took them nearly half an hour to sprint from the wall to the villa area.

When they arrived, they found a group of women from their team confronting a bunch of men in the courtyard.

“What’s going on? Can they bully women and children in broad daylight?” Hu Haotian pushed through the crowd and scanned the scene. Noticing the men weren’t dressed like military personnel, he said, “What’s the matter? Speak to me.”

“We just came to retrieve our own belongings,” replied a burly man in his thirties, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth and messy hair that looked disheveled.

“What belongings are yours? We all have property certificates for these houses, so don’t speak carelessly,” Hu Haotian frowned.

“Those solar panels on your roof all belong to my family!” The man pointed at the solar panels and raised his voice. “My family is a major shareholder of Blue Light Technology. All the solar panels are ours, and taking them back is completely reasonable and legal.”

“Right, completely reasonable and legal…”

“Yeah, you should return our stuff.”

The man’s followers chimed in, creating a ruckus.

“Ha.” Hu Haotian remained calm in the face of the situation. “Those solar panels aren’t from Blue Light Technology; they were produced by Qiwei Company.” He spoke confidently, even while telling a bold-faced lie, projecting an air of unwavering conviction. “So, everyone, please return to where you came from.”

“Bullshit.” The man spat out his cigarette. “I know you took those from my family’s factory. Do you dare to take them down so we can inspect them?”

Hu Haotian wasn’t backing down either. “You need to provide evidence that Blue Light Technology belongs to your family!”

Yu Wanli chimed in, “Exactly, everything should be based on evidence. By your logic, since the government has requisitioned so many properties from Jingtai, we shouldn’t have to hand over any resources and should get a lot of money instead?”

“Stop trying to change the subject! This has nothing to do with the base. If you have the ability, take the solar panels down for us to inspect…”

“If you have the evidence to prove Blue Light Technology is yours…”

“You’re just feeling guilty! If you won’t show us, I’ll go up and take them myself.”

“How dare you! This is our house, and we’ve paid the fees legally. What you’re doing is robbery!”

The two sides were at a standstill.

Suddenly, someone threw the first punch, and a flurry of dazzling abilities erupted.

First came a fire, quickly extinguished by a wall of earth, followed by an ice attack that was buried by another earth-based ability…

Before long, the members of the convoy watched as the four ruffians who had come to provoke them were sealed inside a mound of earth constructed by Hu Haotian and his friends’ earth abilities.

Not even their heads were showing!

The members of the convoy were speechless.

The onlookers were equally stunned.

The provocation was unacceptable, but to bury someone alive like that was too cruel, too violent, and too terrifying!

They must not be offended!

Meanwhile, on the third floor of another villa, a man was watching the scene unfold through binoculars.

“Fools.” After witnessing the events, the man threw down the binoculars in frustration.

A subordinate picked them up and took a look. “Young Master Zhou, those people seem quite strong. Should we try to recruit them into our team?”

This Young Master Zhou was none other than Zhou Shuguang, the temporary patrol leader of the base. “Send a few people over to bring those fools back.”

The subordinate nodded and went off to carry out the order.

Soon, several patrol members arrived at the convoy’s wall. “What’s all this noise? Don’t you know you’re disturbing others?”

By this time, Hu Haotian had already released the captured men.

He didn’t really want to let them go, but given that they were in the base and surrounded by so many watchful eyes, he couldn’t afford to go too far. Otherwise, public opinion might turn against him, which would not be beneficial.

He was a businessman, always thinking about maximizing his interests.

“Comrades of the patrol, you came just in time! These people are trying to rob us in broad daylight and even wanted to resort to violence,” said Luo Ziqiang, who was quick to take advantage of the situation.

The thugs were speechless.

They had initially wanted to argue back, but upon meeting the gazes of Hu Haotian and his companions, they remembered the feeling of helplessness when they were nearly buried alive and felt themselves softening.

However, the patrol members were from the other side, and they couldn’t help but side with the thugs: “It looks like you guys are bullying them.”

Yu Wanli responded, “They were simply outmatched; they ran into something they couldn’t handle. We didn’t really do anything wrong. That little incident just now was just a slip-up on our part.”

The thugs were speechless.

“Seriously? You’re telling me this has turned into a graveyard where people can come to pay respects!”

Hu Haotian continued, “If we hadn’t returned,we wouldn’t have dared to consider the consequences of the elderly, women, and children staying here alone. If something like this had happened on the second day after the base was established, it would have left everyone disheartened. We’ve always trusted our government, but if we end up wandering the streets alive only to lose our lives at a government-built base, what does that say about our trust?”

At this moment, Liu Bing arrived with Bai Qi and Tang Ruo, along with Wei Lan, who had been brought by Pan Xiaoxuan.

While the argument was going on, Old Qin had yet to report to the greenhouse at the base. Seeing the scene in the front yard and learning that those causing trouble had abilities, he instructed Pan Xiaoxuan to find Wei Lan.

Having previously spent time at the base, Pan Xiaoxuan knew roughly where Wei Lan’s office was, so she nodded and headed straight there.

Bai Qi and Wei Lan encountered each other at the entrance, exchanged nods, and entered together.

“Just yesterday, we submitted our supplies in hopes that the base would ensure our safety, and now we find ourselves in this situation. If we can’t have any guarantees, how are we supposed to live here in the future?” Hu Haotian could always deliver a speech without running out of ideas; he could easily evoke emotions or inspire motivation as needed.

After all, he was a former chairman of a publicly listed company!

“Our group is straightforward; we won’t touch what isn’t ours. But what is ours, we won’t let anyone take even a bit of it, even if it costs us our lives. Even in the apocalypse, humanity and morality still matter. We can’t let our personal desires dictate everything…”

“There are so many witnesses here. The eyes of the public are sharp. The government has previously stated that it would protect differing opinions, and we should focus on understanding them rather than viewing dissenters as opposition and labeling them as reactionaries…”

“If we don’t receive a fair resolution, we’ll take this to Chairman Yuan. The disasters of the apocalypse have already made it impossible for most people to survive. If the government we trust the most cannot provide us with confidence or security, then what remains in the world but desolation?”

“This world has already collapsed before my eyes. How can we let this base become a wasteland? Every piece of brick and tile within these walls holds our vibrant memories. We must be vigilant, clear-eyed citizens of the base, and not let those evil individuals take advantage of us…”

Liu Bing, rushing over, was completely taken aback by Hu Haotian’s eloquent speech.

Hu Haotian truly lived up to his reputation; he was so formidable that Liu Bing felt he had to learn from him and strengthen his own arguments against Old Pan!

The reactions of the other team members were no better than Liu Bing’s.

Who knew that a talkative person could be so powerful? Hu Haotian’s words were indeed a sharp weapon.

Moreover, the self-satisfied look on his face as he spoke with righteous indignation was like a catalyst that made everyone feel nauseous.

Fortunately…

This talkative person belonged to their own team.

While feeling sympathy for the opposing side, it was only natural to feel a bit relieved for themselves as well.
