Chapter 10: The Overpowering Tea Flavor

At that moment, Sheng Hongye suddenly entered the room.

Li Xueying instantly put on a different face and pretended to throw herself into Sheng Hongye's arms.

"Brother Hongye, where did you go? I was so scared."

"There shouldn't be any zombies in the hospital for now. You don't need to be afraid."

"But I'm easily frightened. Brother Hongye, can you stay with me?"

Su Ling couldn't be bothered to watch the two of them act affectionately and walked over to the hospital bed. There, she discovered that Gu Kai Xuan had fallen asleep with a partially eaten chocolate in his hand.

He really is just a child. Well, it's probably for the best; it'll help with the pain from the wound.

She gently took the chocolate away, and then a faint fragrance of cologne reached her nose—Sheng Hongye had come over.

"How is Kai Xuan?"

Su Ling turned around and smiled, whispering, "He's asleep. Resting helps with healing the wound. After today, he'll recover even faster tomorrow."

Sheng Hongye made a sound of agreement and said in a low voice, "You've worked hard."

Seeing the two talking, Li Xueying squeezed in again.

"Brother Hongye, you don't need to trouble Miss Su to take care of Kai Xuan. I'll look after him."

Sheng Hongye glanced at her and said calmly, "You're not in good health; take care of yourself first."

Li Xueying hesitated for a moment, then said sweetly, "Thank you, Brother Hongye. I brought my asthma medicine with me."

Sheng Hongye nodded. "That's good. If you're tired, go rest in the car."

As Sheng Hongye was about to leave, Li Xueying suddenly grabbed his sleeve.

"I'm not tired. I just want to be with you, Brother Hongye."

Hearing Li Xueying's cloying voice, Su Ling felt nauseated.

This woman and Su Rou were cut from the same mold. Unfortunately, she had been too naive back then and couldn't see how deceitful Su Rou was. Now, she saw another woman just as insidious. It made her feel disgusted.

"Mr. Sheng, I'll go to the car and get some things. You can chat."

After saying this, Su Ling opened the window and jumped out of the hospital room.

Seeing the scene outside, she couldn't help but take a cold breath.

The sky at this moment was split into two halves, one blue and the other orange, a terrifying and eerie sight. The sun was sandwiched between the two colors, and the gleaming white light that fell from the sky made Su Ling's skin tingle slightly. She hurriedly opened the car door and got inside.

It was indeed the Earth's cleansing plan. It seemed that not only people but even the environment had undergone mutations.

In order to survive, they not only had to face man-made disasters but also more serious natural disasters.

However, before that, they needed to fill their stomachs.

Su Ling opened another pack of bread and ate it with canned luncheon meat.

At that moment, a concrete slab about three meters away from the Passat suddenly moved.

Su Ling thought she had seen it wrong and ignored it. Then, with a dull thud, a two-meter square concrete slab was actually lifted by something, and a cloud of dust fell as the thing revealed its original form—it was a zombie, its limbs deformed from being crushed.

Su Ling's wrist trembled, and the bread fell onto her lap. Then, something strange happened—the zombie suddenly sizzled like it was being fried in oil, emitting a terrifying screeching sound, and smoke started rising from its body.

Su Ling widened her eyes, and after a moment, the zombie, bones and flesh included, all turned into smoke.

Could it be that zombies were afraid of the sun during the day?

It seemed that the Earth had left survivors a way to live.

As Su Ling pondered, Sheng Hongye had already jumped out of the hospital room.

He glanced at the lingering smoke, opened the car door, and got in.

"Zombies?"

Su Ling nodded. "Mr. Sheng has also noticed."

Sheng Hongye nodded, his voice deep. "These zombies seem to fear sunlight. They are likely to be active at night. There are over a hundred thousand people in the town. If they die and mutate, there will surely be a large-scale zombie tide tonight."

Imagining a zombie tide like in the movies, Su Ling couldn't help but feel a shiver down her spine.

"As long as we stay inside the hospital room, we should... be safe."

Sheng Hongye glanced at her and asked with curiosity, "You seem quite confident in the hospital room?"

Su Ling hurriedly explained, "Well... not exactly. I just feel that it didn't collapse during the earthquake, so it should be sturdy."

Sheng Hongye's gaze shifted outside, evaluating the hospital room. "The structure is fine, but the windows need reinforcement. I'll find some bricks to block them."

Su Ling quickly put down the bread. "I'll go with you."

She felt uncomfortable letting such a big guy handle the rough work.

Sheng Hongye put his hand on the car door, resolutely stating, "No need. Defense is a man's job."

After saying that, he walked away without looking back.

Watching Sheng Hongye's tall and slender figure, Su Ling suddenly felt that this man was quite handsome!

Inside the hospital room, Li Xueying was coldly staring at the scene, her eyes filled with resentment...

As the sun set, Sheng Hongye completely sealed off the windows.

Looking at the dirt on his body and the neatly arranged bricks, Su Ling couldn't help but feel a bit dazed.

Sheng Hongye, a big CEO, was actually doing this kind of work?

Thinking about his impressive skills, her curiosity grew even stronger.

In her understanding, most CEOs would be sitting in their executive chairs giving orders, their bellies big and round. It was rare to see someone like Sheng Hongye, who not only had looks but also had skill in bricklaying...

While she was lost in thought, Li Xueying had already come out of the hospital room.

In a coquettish voice, she said, "Brother Hongye, take a rest. When Guan Shan comes back, let him handle it. Come, have a drink of water."

"Guan Shan has his own things to take care of. How is Kai Xuan doing?"

Sheng Hongye nimbly jumped to the ground, took the mineral water handed to him by Li Xueying, and drank a few sips, his Adam's apple rolling up and down, displaying a bold demeanor.

Li Xueying glanced at the car and deliberately blocked Su Ling's line of sight.

"The child has woken up and is eating."

Su Ling snorted and turned her face away.

Although she was curious about Sheng Hongye, she certainly didn't have any feelings for him.

Her current concern was how to survive tonight if Sheng Hongye's speculations became reality. Could her completely fortified room withstand the zombie tide?

The screeching of an engine interrupted Su Ling's thoughts. Guan Shan was driving a white Land Rover, and he smoothly drifted to a stop at the entrance of the hospital room.

He agilely got out of the car, carrying two large travel bags on his shoulders.

Because of the events in Lizhou, Su Ling had developed some suspicions about Guan Shan and couldn't help but take a few more glances at him.

He was tall with well-defined muscles, exuding an explosive sense of power.

She wondered who would win if he and Sheng Hongye got into a fight.

Guan Shan respectfully approached Sheng Hongye.

"Mr. Sheng, I found some food and water."

Sheng Hongye patted his shoulder. "Good, go in and rest for a while."

Then he waved to Su Ling. "Miss Su, come in."

Su Ling didn't really want to go inside, especially not to breathe the same air as Li Xueying.

The tea flavor was just too strong.
