Reborn in the Post-Apocalyptic World: Building Infrastructure

Chapter 24: First Attempt at Large-Scale Reinforcement

Through the gaps in the iron panel, Su Ling was startled to see a zombie climbing during the daytime!

Her mouth fell open in disbelief.

Zombies were actually coming out during the day?

Could it be that during those days when they stood in the rain, they were undergoing some unknown evolution?

Distracted, the zombie slammed a fist against the iron panel, shattering the glass with a loud crack.

Su Ling finally remembered her reinforcement system. She had been hoping for the rain to stop and had forgotten about the system.

She immediately pressed against the iron panel.

"Reinforce the window."

The sound of a failed reinforcing attempt immediately rang out. Su Ling called out, "Continue reinforcing."

With a success rate of only five percent, failure was more likely than success.

She couldn't count how many times she had yelled, but finally, she heard the notification of a successful reinforcement. In the moment the glass was restored, Su Ling saw through the reflection that the outer walls of the building were crawling with zombies.

This discovery sent shivers down her spine. At the same time, an alarm sounded within the base.

The piercing noise assaulted their eardrums, giving Su Ling goosebumps.

Then, she heard cursing from the neighboring room and the sound of breaking glass.

Su Ling immediately tried to reinforce the entire building, but the prompt of failure came, and the glass that had just been restored shattered again.

She kept yelling in her mind to reinforce, but not a single attempt succeeded.

Seeing the zombie's claws starting to lift the iron panel, Su Ling had to give up on the entire base and started reinforcing the glass in her own room. Finally, she received a notification of a successful reinforcement just before the zombie could crawl in.

At that moment, the door opened, and Geng Hao rushed in from outside.

"Sister Su Ling, are you okay?"

After nearly two weeks of rest, Geng Hao's leg had almost recovered, and he could walk without crutches. Upon seeing the zombies climbing up the walls, he became worried about Su Ling's safety.

"I'm fine, no worries. Did your room get attacked by zombies too?"

Geng Hao nodded. "I remember that zombies were afraid of sunlight in the past. Why are they suddenly coming out during the day?"

"They must have evolved," a low, magnetic voice came from behind. Sheng Hongye, dressed in camouflage pants, strode into the room.

He paused briefly before continuing, "If our speculation is correct, the days ahead will be even more difficult. Miss Su, come with me to the control room. I'll have Lin Ye protect you. Geng Hao, go find Liu Yu; take care of each other."

Geng Hao acknowledged and ran out.

Su Ling hesitated for a moment before nodding.

As Su Ling arrived in the corridor, she suddenly remembered the failed reinforcement of the entire base. She was eager to see if it would succeed with assistance.

After so many failed attempts, she was already convinced that Sheng Hongye was the one her soul resonated with. Clearing her throat, she gently opened her lips and said, "Mr. Sheng, can I... hold your hand?"

Sheng Hongye stopped in his tracks, his gaze showing a hint of surprise. "What's wrong?"

"I... feel a bit cold," Su Ling dryly coughed, deliberately tightening her collar.

Sheng Hongye studied her for a moment. Su Ling wasn't the type of woman who sought help from others. What was she up to?

But he still extended his hand and held hers.

The warmth of his large hand enveloped Su Ling's soft and cool hand, as if it carried a ball of fire that quickly spread throughout her entire body.

Su Ling's cheeks immediately turned warm, and she quickly closed her eyes.

"Reinforce the entire base."

"Host's resonance with another individual detected, success rate increased to eighty percent, reinforcing failed."

"Ah!"

An eighty percent success rate still resulted in failure?

This was the first time Su Ling encountered such a situation. She immediately continued to shout in her mind, "Reinforce, keep reinforcing."

The sound of failure kept resounding, and Su Ling couldn't help feeling anxious. She tightly grasped Sheng Hongye's large hand, and finally, three minutes later, she heard the notification of successful reinforcement.

Building defense increased by twenty percent, endurance increased by twenty percent, resistance to attacks increased by twenty percent.

Afterward, Su Ling felt a sudden dizziness and collapsed to the ground.

Sheng Hongye reached out and held Su Ling's waist, feeling that her waist was delicate and slender, making him reluctant to let go.

"Miss Su, Miss Su?"

He held Su Ling in his arms, and she weakly leaned against his chest, her body sliding downward.

Why did she suddenly faint?

Su Ling was a doctor, so her physical condition should be quite good. Then, thinking of her holding his hand and seemingly praying with her eyes closed, he felt that the ground and corridor seemed to have undergone some indescribable changes...

Could she really have some unknown ability?

Otherwise, how could he explain the change in his Land Rover?

Since the day Su Ling touched it, he felt that the Land Rover had become much more powerful in terms of performance and functionality.

The most peculiar thing was that the entire hospital; all five floors collapsed, but the room where Su Ling was located remained intact...

Could there really be so many coincidences in this world?

Looking at Su Ling's pale face, the mysteries in Sheng Hongye's heart gradually grew. He then carried her and strode into his own room.

Coincidentally, Li Xueying was scared out of her room by the zombies and happened to witness this scene. Consumed by jealousy, she gritted her teeth and her eyes turned red.

What was so great about Su Ling? Why was Brother Ye so concerned about her, even assigning someone to protect her? Why didn't this woman just die?

She glared hatefully at the two of them, rubbed her face, and entered Sheng Hongye's room.

"Brother Ye, I'm so scared! Ah! Why is Miss Su here?"

Sheng Hongye placed Su Ling on the pillow and turned to ask, "Where is Song Lei? Didn't he protect you?"

Li Xueying then put on a voice that could give anyone goosebumps and said in a coquettish tone, "I wanted Brother Ye to protect me..."

Sheng Hongye said calmly, "I have other matters to attend to. Go find Song Lei."

Li Xueying instantly shed a few tears. "If you have other matters, why are you still with her?"

Sheng Hongye furrowed his brow and said sternly, "Xueying, you're not a child anymore. You should understand the importance of doctors to the entire team."

Li Xueying pursed her lips and tearfully asked, "Brother Ye, do you really consider her a doctor?"

Sheng Hongye replied, "What else would she be?"

Li Xueying fell silent.

"Go back."

Sheng Hongye gave her a cold glance and turned his face to the window.

A raggedly dressed zombie had already pried open the iron panel fastened to the glass and was now pounding on the window, its pale-gray face resembling that of a corpse, with bloodshot eyes, even more horrifying to see in broad daylight.

Li Xueying saw it too and exclaimed in fear, clutching Sheng Hongye's waist.

Annoyed, Sheng Hongye pulled her hand away and quickly walked to the window. His profound and cold gaze remained fixed on the glass.

The iron panel fastened to the window frame could be pried open by the zombies, yet the glass remained intact?

Could it be that Su Ling really did something to the base?
